1:30PM.
The punctual white witch had arrived at Euphoria which was her meeting point with Nate. To her surprise she spotted his spotless white rover in the underground parking.
He was early by a whopping thirty minutes, Luna sped up her steps with the aim of not keeping him waiting any longer.
Just as she was about to enter the waiting empty elevator he called and informed her to find him at Don's office when she was ready to go.
Without pause she pressed a button that landed her on the first floor where Don's office was situated.
Entering abruptly without knocking startled the two men who seemed to be going through some business documents judging by how sober their faces were.
"Uhm....sorry, I didn't...I'll just come back later..." Luna stammered before she turned to leave.
Her steps halted when Don called her back to his office, shutting her eyes for a second because she had been avoiding him, the young woman walked two steps backwards and turned to face him. The stern look on his face said it all, he wanted to have a conversation about why she went MIA and she didn't want to engage in it.
Silently she clenched the straps of her Birkin and slid into the sit that was closest to the door, just in case she had to escape from him .
"What you've been putting us through is irresponsible on you're part. You got us all worried by cutting off communication completely with everyone. I was about get a locksmith to defeat the lock." Don's sober voice drifted into her ear.
Her eyes flew open when she heard his words "you must be joking, it was a mere three days and you're talking like it was a month, anyway I shouldn't have cut off communication with all of you, for that I apologize. "
The bald man sighed. "I want to apologize for my part in the cause too, I shouldn't have pushed you into taking that case knowing that man's terrible character. It should have been solely you're decision. Something horrible happened, didn't it? The black Mamba asked about it" Don scanned her face for a reaction.
Nate that was quietly sitted noted that she was getting uncomfortable with the conversation, he jerked up and placed his forms in the leather briefcase
"Oh look at that, it's time for you're appointment, you don't want to be late now do you?." He held Luna's wrist and pulled her to follow him.
The moment she entered Nate's car, she exhaled deeply, "Thank you for getting me out of there, I was beginning to suffocate." Luna gratefully smiled at him with one hand on her chest.
"You don't need to tell me anything however if you ever need to talk, am you're guy" Nate squeezed her free hand to assure Luna that she was safe with him.
Sighing heavily she contemplated on whether to tell him or to bottle it up, after serious deliberation she went with the former.
Nate was sympathetic and furious at the same time "I don't want you to ever put yourself in a situation where you're life is put danger ever again. That's why previously you never left Euphoria because it was secure, no client no matter how rich and powerful dared to lay a finger on you. Those rich fuckers have very strange behaviors and preferences, you almost lost you're life because of what really? If you need me to give you the money, any amount I will so please just be on your guard."
Feeling grateful at the last words he said about giving her the threshold fee, Luna stared at him adoringly, she felt lucky to have someone like Nate in her life, he offered stability unlike Logan who was fickle yet her heart only longed for him.
Wiping a tear at the corner of her eye she continued "That's not the worst part of the story."
Nate abruptly stepped on the brake forcing the vehicle to come to a halt, startled because she hadn't fastened the seat belt, the young woman stumbled forward almost bonking her head into the dashboard if his strong hand didn't hold her on time
He sat her back carefully and fastened the seat belt.
"Am sorry about that Luna however I don't think it could get worse than him roughing you up." Nate's voice was as calm as the sunset but also had a trace of bitterness.
She dismissed him claiming that she was used to being roughed up. " I grew up in the slum...." Luna stopped when she realized that she was talking about her previous life.
This time he drove off the road and parked on the side, using the back of his hand he checked for her temperature because to him she was talking gibberish.
"Luna what the hell! you're getting me worried." Nate was aware that Luna Grey has always had a soft life even after her family died thanks to the black mamba
Laughing hysterically like it was a terrible joke she lied blatantly that apparently it was one of her past lives as a psychic "It's confusing at times my memories get jumbled up. Do you believe in reincarnation Nate?"
She scanned his face that clearly showed that he was skeptical about the subject.
"You know what, a few years ago before I met you, I would have said never but now that I've seen it with my eyes it's a maybe." Nate flashed her a dimpled grin.
Nodding her head continuously Luna reminded him that if he didn't resume driving she would miss her appointment.
As soon as they got back on the road she sighed softly "well supernatural beings like me reincarnate and we remember all our past lives, like I remember when I was a cat, a male soldier in world war 2...." Luna halted when he burst into laughter, her story was too funny she joined in. She laughed so hard simply because he believed her lies easily and who wouldn't anyway.
After few minutes of silence her bright face became dull, he noticed simply because she kept sighing heavily "What was the worst part about that case Luna, Let it out." He squeezed her had as he scanned for a parking space in the underground parking
"Are you aware that his wife died?" She trembled as the last images of the woman flashed back in her mind.
"Yes, it's been allover the news. I actually was beginning to feel sad for the guy. He buried both of them in the same grave apparently its in respect to their faith, it's all ritualistic..."Nate pause when Luna blocked her ears with her hands and began to sob.
"There, there, shh" Nate unfastened his seat belt and tightly hugged her "was it something that I said..." He continued to soothe her.
"That man killed her, am sure of it. I could have saved her Nate, stayed silent even though I knew that he would do it. I left that poor woman with him and ran for my life." Luna clenched his black coat as she continued to sob.
"Hey, hey look at me" Nate pulled her back and held her face so he could look into her watery blue eyes "That woman was not a good person, she got what was coming to her, am not saying she deserved to die but neither did her daughter or the thousands of innocent people their cult has sacrificed. So stop beating yourself up about them okay!" Nate pulled her back into his embrace.
A loud thump at the back of the car pulled their attention to its direction, someone had crushed into Nate's car.
The lunatic driver was frantic demanding them to come out of the car, No sooner had Nate stepped out to check out the mess when Logan punched him in the face.
