Chapter 1 - The Witch and the Witcher

In the evening, dark clouds were gathering, the sea wind was howling, and a storm was coming.

At this time, on a country road on the western coast of the Farrell Empire, a tall man was hurriedly walking, his gray cloak fluttering in the wind, and his wide hat almost covering his entire face, except for the moustache around his mouth. The stubble is faintly visible.

"The fishing village is just ahead. What would you like to eat?" the man said, seeming to be talking to himself.

"Hmph! I don't talk to liars." A voice sounded in his ear.

The man was stunned and said, "Liar? Where is he?"

The voice said in his ear : "It's just you and me here. If it's not you, could it be me?"

"Why did I lie to you? You are so slanderous!" The man replied, not to be outdone.

"Last month you said you would eat roasted chicken. It's been a month. Where is the chicken? Has it not broken the shell yet?" The voice said angrily: "And last month, you said you would eat roasted suckling pig. As a result, I didn't even see a single pig hair..."

The man laughed when he heard the words, and was about to speak when he heard a "swish" sound, a white light flashed, and an arrow struck him like lightning. Fortunately, the man was agile and evaded in an emergency. The arrow almost flew past his face.

The man followed the sound, and then a second arrow was shot from behind a tree. The man was on guard. He raised his right hand, and a silver arrow was caught between his two fingers.

Seeing that the sneak attack failed, the attacker immediately turned around and ran towards the fishing village. The figure seems to be that of a woman.

"Lilith! Are you okay?" the man called back.

"You scared me to death!" A furry thing flew down from the sky and landed on the man's shoulder. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be an owl. The little guy is so small, about the same size as a fist.

Seeing that his friend was fine, the man spread out his body and chased towards the fishing village.

As soon as I entered the fishing village, I suddenly heard a scream. I followed the direction of the scream and found a woman tripped to the ground by a rope. A priest was nearby and directed the villagers to tie her hands and feet tightly. .

Seeing the figure of the priest, the man hid in the shadow of the hut alertly. From a distance, the woman seemed to be the one who attacked.

"Damn witch, let's see where you run this time! Take her to the square!" The priest shouted, and the woman shouted: "No, I am not a witch, you are mistaken!"

After hearing the news, the villagers came and gathered in larger numbers. The man quietly followed the crowd and walked towards the square.

Soon, the woman was tied to a pillar on a high platform, with firewood piled at her feet. The man lowered his hat brim and squeezed into the crowd.

The woman on the high platform has golden hair and a delicate face. Perhaps because of excitement, a pair of big black eyes sparkled.

"I'm really not a witch, I'm just passing by!" the woman defended loudly.

"Stop quibbling. Strange incidents have been happening in the village recently, so I set up a trap and used the black cat's body as a bait for the witch to appear. Sure enough, you took the bait immediately!" The priest held a blazing torch and pointed at the girl. Er shouted sharply.

"You misunderstood, this was really just an accident!" the woman begged bitterly.

"You can't fool me! His Majesty the Holy Emperor has already made it clear to the whole country that black cats are the spirits of witches, and women who have anything to do with black cats will be treated as witches. You are clearly attracted by the black cat's body and want to use your evil Witchcraft resurrects them as your dark servants!"

The priest's angry rebuke excited the surrounding villagers. They waved their fists and shouted in unison: "Burn her, the witch must die!"

Hearing the shouts of the crowd, the priest gave the girl a cold look, waved his hand and threw the torch towards the firewood pile. The flames rose into the sky and rushed towards the girl on the firewood pile.

"No, don't!" The girl's frightened cry was instantly drowned out by the burst of flames. Rogge in the crowd saw this and said softly to the little owl: "Lilith, we have to save her. She and I still have an arrow. The score has not yet been settled!"

Lilith heard the words and took off into the air towards the girl in the fire. Two red lights shot out from her eyes. The girl was transformed into a palm-sized hamster in the red light. The little owl fell from the sky, grabbed the hamster and flew straight into the sky. In the blink of an eye, Flying without a trace.

"What? That's... an owl!" The priest looked at the direction in which the little owl disappeared in shock, and stamped his feet in annoyance: "That's so careless. The owl is the witch's favorite accomplice. I should have been wary of her using this trick to escape. of!"

Among the commotion, Rogge glanced mockingly at the furious priest, squeezed out of the crowd with a smile, walked toward the towering coastal cliffs northwest of the fishing village, and stopped in front of an abandoned lighthouse.

He climbed to the top of the tower along the spiral staircase and saw a seven or eight-year-old girl wearing a black feather coat and bright red dancing shoes standing at the door. The girl just now was standing on the edge of the platform with a wary look on her face.

"Is that idiot priest satisfied with my performance?" The girl in black feathers turned around and asked Rogge with a naughty smile with slightly raised lips.

"He is very satisfied, Lilith, at least I think so!" Rogge took off his veil with a smile, took out a cigar from his body and lit it, walked towards the girl standing by the platform with hostile eyes, and said, "What is your name?" name?"

"Catherine..." The girl seemed to hesitate for a moment before answering softly.

"A typical Itali name, a trainee killer from the Principality of Itali, why did you attack me at night?" Rogge asked curiously.

"Because you are the most wanted criminal in the empire - 'Lone Wolf' Rogge. In the past ten years, you have killed dozens of nobles in the three affiliated principalities of the empire. The Holy Association in the imperial capital has offered a reward of two thousand gold coins for you. Life or death," Catherine replied.

"No wonder you poisoned the tip of the arrow, but you are still too young. You must have never carried out an assassination mission yourself, otherwise you would not have missed the target with the first arrow." Rogge said and took out something from his body. He brought a silver arrow to his nose, sniffed it, and dropped it at Catherine's feet.

Catherine looked down at the arrow and blushed in embarrassment. She heard Rogge continue: "There are many rumors about me from the outside world. Some people say that I am a man-eating wolf, others say that I am a vampire killer, and even more. Many people know that the demon hunter Rogge is someone who cannot be troubled, so what gives you the courage to hunt down an old hunter?"

"Because only by catching you can I get that large bounty." Catherine pondered for a moment, then raised her head and replied: "With that money, I can buy back the Merlin's Crossbow!"

"Merlin's Crossbow?" Roland's eyes showed a little surprise, and he asked: "What do you want the Mailin's Crossbow for? It is a weapon specially used for hunting werewolves. Only demon hunters who specialize in hunting werewolves can use it!"

"Yes, I will kill the white werewolf that killed my father and avenge my father!" Catherine gritted her teeth and looked at Rogge, her eyes seemed to be spitting out fire.

"The white werewolf who killed your father?" The corner of Rogge's mouth twitched nervously, and the cigar he was holding fell off unknowingly, and a spark fell to the ground.

"That's right," Catherine glanced at Rogge's strange expression in surprise, and said with lingering anger: "That's right, fifteen years ago, it killed the man who lived with me at the edge of the forest southeast of Itali. My father, I still remember its ferocious appearance!"

"Fifteen years, after so long, you still can't let go of that hatred?" Rogge picked up the fallen cigar from the ground, slowly put it between his lips, and asked meaningfully.

"Of course not! After my father died, I became an orphan at the age of four. My aunt abused me and sent me to an orphanage to be bullied. I ended up living on the streets and became a beggar and thief. If it hadn't been for Master to take me in I, I have already starved to death!" Catherine shouted emotionally to Rogge.

Rogge smoked silently, and after hearing the girl's brief silence, he continued: "Originally, I wanted to seek revenge on the werewolf after I completed my studies. Unexpectedly, my master also died unexpectedly. I lost my last support and could not even To support myself, I have no choice but to fight to the death and try my luck from you!"

"Obviously, you found the right person..." Rogge nodded meaningfully, put out the cigar in his mouth, reached out and took out a silver gun from his waist, pointed the gun at Catherine and said, "I'm the best at it. My job is to help people relieve their pain..."
