Ania was still in the dining room, savoring her breakfast. She hummed a tune as she picked at her food, her gaze occasionally flickering to the spot on the table where Ivan had left the necklace box.
Just then, the door swung open, and Ivan walked in, looking much calmer than when he had stormed out earlier. He moved toward the table, picked up the box, and scrutinized it for a moment before snapping it shut.
Ania looked up at him with a teasing smirk, still amused by what happened earlier. She sniffed the air and chuckled. "Did you try smoking?" she asked, staring at him innocently.
Ivan scoffed, rolling his eyes. "Shut up."
She laughed, covering her mouth with her hand. "You know how that always ends for you," she teased, remembering past attempts he'd made at using cigarettes to calm his nerves, all with similar results.
