Ivan's sighed at the man's refusal. "I understand the importance of your policies. But I can assure you that the cub will receive the best care possible. It will be loved and protected. Your concerns about its welfare are my concerns as well."

 

The owner glanced at the check again, the numbers dancing before his eyes. He couldn't let such an offer down, obviously. Finally, he nodded. "How about this? I'll give you the tiger cub to keep for, let's say, a week, and then you bring it back." He shrugged. "It's the best offer we got. Selling it is against the wild life protection services, and we could get arrested for it."

 

Ivan nodded. "Very well, then. You have my word. I shall return the cub next week."

 

The owner sighed and called over the zookeeper, who had been feeding the cub. "Prepare the tiger cub for transfer to Mr. Smirnov for a week," he instructed.
