That night, Rayleigh let Isabelle be part of her, giving her time to have a much-needed conversation with her mother, Ane. With their departure to New York now firmly settled, Ane had expressed a readiness to return to Thailand the same day, Rayleigh and Isabelle going back to New York.
Ane had left Thailand with a number of pressing issues and responsibilities at her company, and she knew she would have to face them sooner rather than later. "Mae will go back to Chiang Mai, and we can talk after that. I need to resolve some problems," she told Isabelle.
"Will you be fine, Mae?" Isabelle asked, her voice laced with worry for her mother's well-being.
Knowing that her decision two months ago had put her in a precarious position within the company, Ane had made the difficult choice to leave, even without her superiors' permission.
