As the sun dipped below the horizon of Venice, casting the canals of Venice in a warm, golden glow, the family finally returned to Venice after spending a few days in Tuscany. Madelyn had decided to stay the night in the city rather than returning to the United States the next morning because Matthew has been asking her to come back.
"Isn't he used to going to work without you, Mom?" Rayleigh asked.
Madelyn let out a slight huff of frustration. "Oh, he told me he needed to go somewhere, which is why he needed me to fill in for him," she explained, a tinge of annoyance lacing her words.
Rayleigh's eyes narrowed as the implication sank in. "Going somewhere?" she mused, her mind immediately flashing back to the conversation in Tuscany. "He's going to chase after Lauren, isn't he?"
"Seems so," Madelyn confirmed, her lips pursed in a thin line.
