The difference between being a princess and being one of the refugee aid workers is that a princess had to go back to her fancy hotel room at the end of the day and wasn't even needed—at least, not until she had to distribute the food and blankets that her mother and the crown had donated. They were not due to arrive until later in the day, so she had a lot of time on her hands. She used that time talking to the refugees, who were surprisingly respectful of her; some were even a little reverent.
This gave her hope. Hope that they would respect her father the way they did her. She wondered how he was doing in Rhodes. She wondered what he was doing.
The rest of the world was not wondering. They could see Dominique Handhoff live on their television screens. This was the first time the Varshani council had ever been erected, and, of course, the world wanted to watch.
