It took a moment for Josephine to notice that there was something she was missing in the room. She could see that there was tension and anticipation. What was going on? She began to look around, but Dominique asked her something, and she had to focus on the conversation she was having with him.
Dominique picked up a couple of champagne glasses from a circulating tray and handed one to his wife. She smiled her thanks at him and lifted it to her lips as she looked around the room. That was when she saw her. Edina. What was she doing here?!
It took effort and years of training not to show her shock or blank her face. Either one would be telling, and she was better than that. She kept her expression pleasant, turned away from Edina as if she had not seen her, and faced the people she and her husband were talking to.
