Meeting Colonel Farley.
The walk to the Colonel's office was a silent one, Aaron is silently planning his life from now on and how he would eventually locate his wife while Victor thought this man might make him say more than necessary.
"We're here" Victor announced while gesturing towards a large white building before them.
"After you" Aaron smiled and gesture for Victor to continue leading the way.
Victor nodded and entered the building, they walk through many corridors, and the place is filled to the brim with soldiers and some people in white clothes which Aaron believed to be scientist.
"That's some interesting place you have, I won't mind working here if the deal work out, it'd be a pleasant experience" Aaron commented.
Victor nodded but stay silent, they continued walking an only stopped when they walk through a couple of stairs and arrive at the top floor of five floor building
"Come in" A deep voice sounded.
The moment they arrive, the voice spoke and the door automatically opened.
Seating behind the table is a familiar but imposing man, he is Jane's dad, the head of the group of soldiers that rescue them from the school.
"Sir!" Victor salute.
The Colonel nodded and shift his gaze to Aaron, "Take your seat, Aaron"
Aaron nodded and sit on a chair before the table.
"I'm am Colonel Floyd Farley. I've heard that you are willing to work with us in exchange we will provide you some benefits" Colonel Farley said.
"Indeed, I would help your soldiers with prosthetics which include creating the prosthetics, conducting or participating in research to create a further develop the prosthetics. In exchange, you'll give me information, some monetary benefits, research materials and subjects, other resources and protection as well" Aaron listed his demands.
"That simple?" Colonel Farley smiled.
Aaron's mouth twitched at his demands being call simple.
"It is our duty to protect the citizens of the nation and as a valuable asset of the nation, your protection within our territory is fool-proof. It is only right that we pay you for your service, distributing resources and research materials is also expected as you will be conducting the research for us and the sake of humanity" Colonel Farley said.
"As for your last demand, it depends on the type of information"
"So you are saying that you won't give me certain-type of information?" Aaron leaned back in his chair and asked.
Colonel Farley smiled and added. "You see, the military is not your normal type of organization. Everything works on a merit system here"
"It all depends on your contribution to the military and the nation as well. With enough merit, there exist no information that you won't be able to lay your hands on no matter how secretive it is. So you have to work your way up and contribute, you work you gain, you slack off you gain nothing" Colonel Farley smiled as if educating a child.
"Merit huh? I believe information is not the only thing we can exchange with your so-call merit points" Aaron enquired.
"Yes. You can exchange for weapons, you can exchange for high tier technology, you can exchange for anything the military has as long as you have the merit points required." Colonel Farley explained.
Aaron weighed the pro and cons and made his decision, everything the colonel said made sense, not to mention the advantages outweigh the advantages.
"Alright. I'm In" Aaron said.
"Good. Congratulations on joining the military Aaron Reeves. You are not expected to leave your work place without permission from your superiors. Right now due to the importance the army placed on your, you've an authority the same level as a sergeant" Colonel Farley congratulates.
"What the heck?" Aaron is dumbfounded.
"You should be lucky you get to join soon and even with an instant promotion. In the near future, every able man will be utilize for the war against the Nightcrawlers. So it is just a question of if join now or later"
"Victor! Show him to his workplace" Colonel Farley ordered.
"Yes sir!" Victor nodded and indicate for Aaron to follow him.
"Dammit. Just like this I've become a soldier" He cursed but refused to follow Victor.
"What is the matter, soldier?" Colonel Farley asked.
"Well… at least you'll let me asked a few questions right?" Aaron said.
"Two questions" Colonel Farley nodded.
"What is the reason of the strange happenings in the shelter?" Aaron asked.
"According to the research carried out by the military, the mysterious fog is the cause"
"Then what is the reason for the existence of the fog?" Aaron asked.
"According to our scientific research, it is believe that the reason for the existence of the fog is something known as Tectonic Shifting, a massive seismic activity on Earth's crust could have released a previously undiscovered gas or vapor from the planet's core. This could have combined with atmospheric particles to create dense, misty fog" Colonel Farley patiently explained.
"Then what is the reason for the whisphers-"
"Enough. You've already asked two questions, Victor would introduce you to your combat instructor and would supervise your training, he would shape you into diligent and capable soldier" Colonel Farley had a slight grin on his face.
"Hmph" Aaron coldly snorted and walk out with Victor to soon meet his instructor and his new life in the military.
