Chapter 47 - Dayu controlled floods

After Shun succeeded to the throne and became the Human Emperor, he worked hard to govern the world and had no time to sleep every day. Since Gun was beheaded by Shun at Yushan, no one could be found to replace Gun to control the floods. The floods in prehistoric times became more and more severe. At this time, someone recommended Gun's son Yu, saying that Yu could control the floods. Shun had no one to send. So he agreed to let Yu succeed Gun in controlling the flood.

Yu's name was Wen Ming. Yu's father was Gun, whose father was Emperor Zhuanxu. Zhuanxu's father was Changyi, and Changyi's father was Huangdi. Yu was the grandson of Emperor Zhuanxu, the great-great-grandson of Huangdi. Yu's great-grandfather Changyi and father Gun did not ascend the throne but served as ministers to the emperor. When Yu was young, he was taught a skill by the god Zhen. In order to cure the flood and wash away his father's shame, he immediately joined with Yi and Hou Ji to summon people from all over the world to come and help. He inspected the river course, reviewed the reasons for Gun's failure and decided to reform the water control method into dredging. He personally climbed over mountains and ridges and crossed rivers. He took tools to measure the terrain all the way from west to east, and set up benchmarks to plan water courses. He led the migrant workers in flood control all over the country according to the benchmarks, and built embankments wherever they encountered depressions to dredge waterways and divert floodwaters into the sea. Yu worked hard to control the floods and never dared to rest, despite the hard work. Soon after his marriage to Nvjiao, a famous girl from the Tushan clan, he left his wife and embarked on the road of flood control again. Later, when he passed by the house and heard the sound of his wife giving birth to their son, he gritted his teeth and did not enter the house. When they passed by for the third time, his son, Qi, was holding his mother's arms. He already knew how to ask his father to wave his little hands to say hello to Yu. Yu just waved to his wife and children to show that he saw them, but he still didn't stop.

Yu also cared about the sufferings of the people. Once he saw a man who was so poor that he sold his child, so Yu redeemed the child. Seeing that some people had nothing to eat, he asked Hou Ji to distribute the only food to the people. Yu wore tattered clothes, ate poor food, lived in a simple tent, and took the lead in doing the hardest and dirtiest work every day. Over the years, all the hair on his legs and arms has fallen off, and his palms and soles have become thickly calloused. His body is dry and his face is swarthy. After thirteen years of hard work, they opened up countless mountains, dredged countless rivers, and built countless dams so that all the rivers in the world flowed to the sea. Finally, they successfully controlled the floods and eradicated them. The land that had just receded from the flood was too wet, so Yu gave seeds to the people and taught them to grow rice.

When Yu was trying to control floods, he often encountered obstacles from the mountains. He organized people to dig up mountains, but the manpower was limited and the results were not very good. Yu was very troubled. At this time, the great god Mrs. Yunhua lived in Wushan. When Yu heard that Mrs. Yunhua had great supernatural powers, he went to Mrs. Yunhua for help. Seeing that Yu was devoted to the people, Mrs. Yunhua asked her maid to give Yu the spell to summon ghosts and gods, and she also made her generals Kuangzhang, Yu Yu, Huang Mo, Dayi, Gengchen, Tong Lu, and others help Yu Xie cut the stone and dredge the waves to guide the enemy to follow its flow. He also gave Yu two treasures - a mountain-opening ax and a water-avoiding sword. The mountain-opening ax was used to open mountains and divert water, and the water-avoiding sword was used to kill monsters in the water.

Yu opened nine roads in the mountains: one starts from Qishan and goes to Jingshan and crosses the Yellow River; one goes from Hukou Mountain and Leishan to Taiyue Mountain; one goes from Dizhu Mountain and Xicheng Mountain to Wangwu Mountain; One runs from Taihang Mountain and Changshan to Jieshi Mountain and enters the sea and is connected to the waterway; one runs from Xiqing Mountain and Zhuyu Mountain, Niaoshu Mountain to Taihua Mountain; one runs from Xiong'er Mountain, Waifang Mountain, and Tongbai Mountain to Fuwei Mountain; One runs from Jizhong Mountain to Jingshan; one runs from Neifang Mountain to Dabie Mountain; one runs from the south of Wenshan to Hengshan, crosses Jiujiang, and finally reaches Shiqianyuan Mountain.

Yu channeled nine large rivers: he channeled the weak water to Heli and made the downstream of the weak water flow into quicksand. The black water was channeled into the South China Sea through Sanwei Mountain. The Yellow River is diverted from Jishi Mountain to Longmen Mountain, south to Huayin, then turns eastward, passes through Dizhu Mountain, continues eastward to Mengjin, then eastward through the mouth of Luoshui River to Dapi; then turns northward, passes through Huishui to Daluze, and then turns eastward. It is divided into nine rivers in the north. These nine rivers merge into one called Nihe River downstream and finally flow into the sea. Starting from Jizhong Mountain, the Yangshui is channeled to flow eastward, which is the Hanshui River. Then it flows eastward, which is the Canglangshui River. It passes through the Sanyishui River and turns to the south of the Dabie Mountains to flow into the Yangtze River. Then it flows eastward to meet the Penglize River and continues eastward, which is the Beijiang River and flows into the sea. Starting from Wenshan, the Yangtze River is diverted to branch eastward, which is the Tuoshui River. Then it goes east to reach the Lishui River, passes through Jiujiang, reaches Dongling, and flows eastwards obliquely to the north to meet the Penglize River. It continues eastward to reach the Zhongjiang River and finally flows into the sea. Directing the Nun River to flow east means that the Jishui River flows into the Yellow River. The two waters meet and overflow into Yingze. It goes eastward through the north of Taoqiu and continues eastward to Heze. It meets the Wenshui River in the northeast and then flows northward into the sea. Starting from Tongbai Mountain, the Huai River is channeled eastward to join the Sishui River and Yishui River and then flows eastward into the sea. The Wei River is channeled from Niaoshu Tongxing Mountain to the east to join the Feng River, then east to join the Jing River, and then eastward to pass through the Qishui and Ju Rivers and flow into the Yellow River. The Luoshui River is diverted from Xiong'er Mountain to the northeast to join the Jianshui River and the Xishui River, then to the east to join the Yishui River and then to the northeast to flow into the Yellow River. All the mountains and rivers were tamed. From then on, Kyushu was unified, and everyone within the four borders could live in it. Roads were opened in the nine mountains. Nine rivers were dredged. Water sources were dredged. Nine lakes were built with embankments. Made Hajj.

Because Yu succeeded in controlling the floods, Emperor Shun gave Yu a black jade gui in the sacrificial ceremony to commend his achievements and to declare success and great rule of the world to all people in the world. Soon after, Yu was granted the title of Bo and Xia was granted the title of state. Yu's prestige in the world reached its peak. All the people praised and said: "Without Yu, we would have become fish and turtles long ago." Emperor Shun praised Yu and said: "Yu, Yu! You are my arms, thighs, ears, and eyes. I want to benefit the people and you assist me." I want to observe the sky, understand the sun, the moon, and the stars, and write and embroider clothes to teach me. I want to listen to the six rhythms, the five tones, and the eight tones to control chaos and promote the five virtues. You never flatter me in front of me and slander me behind my back. Sincerity, virtue, and example make the court pure and innocent. You have done a great job promoting my sanctity!"

Emperor Shun recommended Yu to heaven as the heir to the throne. Seventeen years later, Emperor Shun died. After three years of mourning, Yu fled to Yangcheng in order to give up the throne to Shun's son, Shangjun. But all the princes in the world did not go to worship Shang Jun and came to worship Yu. Only then did Yu inherit the throne of the emperor. In the south, he accepted the homage from all the princes of the world and his country name was the Queen of Xia, whose surname was Si. People respected him as Dayu.

In order to consolidate the Xia Dynasty, Dayu divided the country into nine states (i.e. Jizhou, Yanzhou, Qingzhou, Xuzhou, Yangzhou, Jingzhou, Yuzhou, Liangzhou, Yongzhou) for management. He also used mountain copper to refine nine large tripods to serve as the nine states. symbol of continent. At that time, Fangfeng, the leader of the ancient Yue tribe, always wanted to dominate one side and claimed to be the leader of each tribe of the Yue people, but he did not obey Dayu's orders. Dayu publicly ordered him to be executed at the Miaoshan Assembly and his body was exposed for three days. The princes and uncles from all over the world knew the power of the Xia Dynasty and the sanctity of Dayu and dared not offend King Yu. Those clans and tribes that did not attend the court meeting with King Yu heard about this and paid tribute to the Xia Dynasty.

Yidi made some wine. After drinking it, Dayu felt that it tasted very mellow, so he ordered Yidi to stop making wine. Yidi was very puzzled and asked: "Since the king said that the wine tastes very good, why not let all the wine be made?" Why should we ban it when everyone has tasted it?" Dayu said: "Just because the taste of wine is so mellow that people don't feel intoxicated and people don't think about other things except wine. There must be a reason for this in future generations. The country was destroyed by drinking." Soon after Yu succeeded to the throne, he elected Gao Tao as his successor and gave him full power to handle government affairs. After Gaotao died unfortunately, Boyi was elected as his successor to take charge of government affairs. In the tenth year of his reign, Emperor Yu visited the south. As we were crossing the river, a yellow dragon swam up and arched the big ship. The people on board were very frightened. Dayu looked up to the sky and sighed: "I am ordered by heaven. Sasuke, who lives by heaven, will return to heaven when he dies. Why do you have to worry about this dragon?" When the dragon heard these words, it shook its tail, lowered its head and disappeared. Dayu arrived in Kuaiji and died there. Spread benefit to the world.
