Chereads / The Resilient Heiress / Chapter 82 - Gift

Chapter 82 - Gift

David and Sirius emerged nonchalantly, their faces devoid of emotion. In contrast, Carter's expression was a mix of bewilderment and confusion, as if he couldn't quite comprehend the situation unfolding before him.

He turned to David with a curious look and inquired, "David, who was that girl? And was that truly our Boss?"

Typically, their Boss was as cold and unyielding as a mountain, showing no signs of warmth or approachability. Those who dared to cross him with ill intentions would vanish without a trace, never to be seen again.

He was surprised to see his boss being so warm towards a girl who didn't even seem like an adult.

His boss's family couldn't even calm his anger. The saying, "Even the hardest heart can melt," really applies to his boss.

David glanced at Carter, who was deep in thought but not saying anything.

After a moment, Carter snapped out of his thoughts.

Seeing David didn't respond, Carter shot back angrily, "Why aren't you saying anything?"

David glanced at Carter and remarked with a sly grin, "Looks like we've got ourselves a future madam."

Carter was taken aback by this statement. He couldn't believe what he was hearing.

David observed the two individuals before him. Sirius appeared indifferent, as usual, but Carter's surprised reaction brought a sense of relief to David, knowing he wasn't the only one caught off guard by the news.

Carter remained attentive, scanning the surroundings, and gazed at David with curiosity, eager to learn more.

Just as he was about to ask another question, a harsh voice cut in, "Are you really going to gossip about the Boss?"

Those words made David clamp his mouth shut, and the grin vanished from his face. He definitely didn't want to end up in trouble for talking behind his boss's back.

Carter shot a furious glance at the icy Sirius and yelled, "If you're not interested, then keep quiet! Why ruin the vibe?"

Sirius didn't even bother to acknowledge him, staying silent.

Carter smirked at him before turning his attention back to David, who was now looking anywhere but at them.

He also thought for some time and decided to not go deep into it.

As time passed, dinner time arrived.

Ethan opted not to take Zara out for dinner since it wouldn't suit her taste.

He grasped one thing about Zara - she prefers not to eat food from restaurants, so he made the decision to limit their outings for meals.

No matter what Ethan offered or purchased for Zara to eat during their shopping trips, Zara didn't show much interest in eating.

He decided against taking her to a restaurant and instead took her straight to one of his houses.

After dinner, Zara was seated on the couch in the living room. David then brought a box and handed it to Ethan, saying, "Boss, your order has been delivered."

Ethan glanced at David and accepted the box. It was a small box, about the size of his palm. Ethan examined the box before shifting his gaze to Zara, who was engrossed in her phone.

Approaching her, Zara noticed his approach and looked up to see the gift in his hand.

She hadn't really thought about the box he had, but just by looking at it, it was obvious there was some jewelry inside.

When she spotted the box, she shot Ethan a curious look that seemed to ask, "What's in there?"

Ethan caught her gaze and smiled before pulling out a bracelet from the box. He turned to Zara, took her hand, and fastened the bracelet on her wrist.

Then, he picked up a necklace from the box, looked at her with anticipation, and said, "Make sure to wear these whenever you head out."

With that, he stood up from the couch and moved behind her to help put on the necklace.

Zara remained silent until he returned and took a seat on the couch beside her, "Why are you handing me these?"

Ethan noticed Zara's puzzled expression and replied cheerfully, "I wanted to get something for my fiancée."

Zara felt irritated by Ethan constantly referring to her as "fiancée". Therefore, she maintained a neutral expression.

Despite hearing Ethan's explanation, Zara only believed half of it.

Zara gazed sternly at Ethan and inquired, "Explain the use."

Upon hearing Zara's words, Ethan chuckled proudly, "My fiancée knows everything, nothing can be hidden from her."

Zara simply rolled her eyes in response, waiting for Ethan to continue.

Ethan proceeded to explain, "The bracelet is equipped with a special mechanism, which could shoot needles with medicinal powder to render someone unconscious for five hours." He made sure to speak slowly so Zara could understand.

"And there are only ten needles in total," Ethan added, glancing at Zara. "The necklace, on the other hand, is a minigun. You'll get the hang of it after trying it once."

Zara's eyes sparkled as she heard the suggestion, and she absentmindedly glanced at the bracelet adorning her wrist.

She turned to Ethan eagerly, "I want to give it a shot. Where can I try?"

Seeing Zara's enthusiasm, Ethan couldn't help but feel a warm glow inside, witnessing a side of her he hadn't seen before.

Even though Ethan had known Zara since she was a kid, she didn't just let anyone see this side of her.

Only her family got to experience it. To everyone else, she came off as pretty cold, even back in her childhood.

So, Ethan was really glad to catch a glimpse of this side of her that she revealed just now.

Before long, Ethan led Zara to a specially designed training room on the ground floor.

Motioning towards the padded walls and the target board, Ethan said, "You can try here. See if you feel comfortable. If not, I'll ask them to modify it."

Zara gave him a nod, then activated the bracelet, pressing the mechanism just like Ethan had suggested. In an instant, a sharp needle shot out and hit the bull's eye perfectly.

Ethan was taken aback but managed to keep a composed expression as he watched Zara hit the target with such precision and ease. But soon, his face had a smile looking at Zara.

She examined the needle's sharpness and force, nodding in approval.

Next, she attempted to remove the necklace to give it a try.

As she fumbled with it, Ethan stepped closer and said, "Just press your finger on the dollar, and the necklace will transform into a small pistol."

Zara glanced at Ethan, who nodded encouragingly. Following his advice, she pressed the dollar, and before long, the necklace morphed into a tiny pistol that resembled a toy gun.
