You would think that life would be easier for Mattias by now, there were no more world ending threats, an evil army hasn't been seen in nearly a century, and traveller's have been forming parties and guilds to keep the monster population controlled. You would think life would be easier, and yet here he was, standing outside of his so called dates home, left out in the rain once she learned that he was a vampire. "Seriously, I only asked for a sip, it's not like she was in any danger. We haven't been classified as monsters for like 30 years and yet they still always run." He sighed and began his walk back to the Amethyst Inn. Vampires led fairly solitary lives, having been hunted nearly to extinction due to the claims of a madman insisting they were uncontrollable monsters who wanted to take over the world. Due to the stigma many people today stilled feared and despised them despite the truth coming out, and so it was usually unsafe to for vampires to travel in groups. "Well, guess I can go about this the old fashioned way and just ambush someone in an alleyway." Mattias shuddered, "would it hurt criminals to put more attention into their hygiene though? They always taste so foul.". Nonetheless, he decided it was better than starving for the night. Mattias lept up onto a nearby roof, nearly landing on a bird and falling back off. "Shit! That was close. Was that a raven? Kind of weird seeing one all alone out here. Eh, whatever."
Mattias casually hopped from roof to roof, it was already late in the evening and the rain further decreased visibility for the night. Mattias kept an eye out on the streets searching for any suspicious activity as he tried to ignore the growling in his stomach. His luck finally paid off when he spotted what appeared to be two large human men carrying something in a large burlap sack and sticking to the shadows and they traversed the town. "OK, they are definitely transporting stolen goods or something illegal in there. Like, who else acts that way and skulks around in the night like that? Well... other than me I guess, but I'm no criminal!"
Mattias carefully followed them from above, tracking them conveniently to an alleyway. "There's still only two of them, so just knock them out, have a snack, and be on my way before anyone sees me and I get chased out of this town too. Should be simple, I think." While sitting at the edge contemplating the best approach to take a sudden loud caw from a bird directly behind him startled him, causing him to slip off.
"Hey Edwin, how much longer till the buyer shows? We only got enough doses to keep the brat out cold for another few hours give or take." Instead of being met with a response the man instead hurt a loud thud followed by a grunt. He turned around to be met with a strange pale young man sitting in top of his partners shoulders. " ugh, well I only planned on knocking him out but I definitely think I broke some of this guys bones from that height," Mattias looked up at the other man staring at him before standing himself up and brushing himself off. "Greetings! I strongly suggest you," "who the hell are you?" The man interrupted while pulling out a rather odd looking boomerang. "I was just getting to... is that a boomerang?" Mattias leaned in get a closer look. "Are you for real man? Really?" Unamused by Mattias's insult the man pulled the boomerang back and it began to glow a soft blue. "Oh. OH! Shit that things enchanted! C'mon, what are the odds?" Mattias braced for an incoming attack, an unconventional weapon or not, any weapon enchanted by a powerful enough magic user was at least a moderate threat, usually augmented to do substantial more damage than it's mundane counterpart.
The man prepared to throw his weapon until suddenly a large blade pierced his stomach from behind, and slid horizontally, almost effectively ripping the man in half. "Oh shit! You just killed that guy!" As Mattias watched the body of the man collapse in front of him a woman clad in chainmail stood in it's place before pointing her sword at him next. "Release the girl and maybe I will consider sparing your life!" The woman entered a combat stance and stared down Mattias, awaiting any resistance so she could cut him down next.
"Whoa wait hold up, girl? Wait wait wait you have it wrong here, I was just trying to stop these guys myself! I uh, saw that they were acting suspicious so I followed them!" Nice try, vampire, we already know exactly what happened. You were probably trying to steal the girl for yourself and that is why you were following them from above you fiend!" "Wait, how did you know I was up there? I didn't see anyone else around. Who are you?" The woman refused to answer, instead opting to swing her sword vertically down towards Mattias's head. Panicked, but in a swift movement he launched himself at a wall before bouncing back and landing feet first on the blade, forcing it to the ground and immobilizing it. Caught off guard by the unexpected speed and movement the woman frowned. "Just who are you?" "Hey now," Mattias retorted doing his best to hide his anxiety, "I asked you first."
