Mechelle's POV
After the phone call ended, I hurried to the bathroom door, where Melody's curses could be heard from inside: "Ah—get the hell away from me! If you dare lay a finger on me, I'll make you regret it..."
I felt like ants on a hot plate, fearing any insult to my dear friend.
"Max, I've already called the police. You better release Melody now, or when the cops arrive, you won't be able to escape," I said urgently.
The door suddenly swung open from inside, causing me to stagger and almost fall. I rushed to Melody's side, pushing aside the two boys gripping her arms. "Melody, are you okay? I've called the police. If he dares to..."
Before I could finish my sentence, a smug laughter filled the air. I lifted my head and gave the owner of the laughter a cold glance. "What's so funny?"
"Mechelle, you probably don't know yet! After all, I'm an alpha. Do you think they'll listen to you and take me away?" Max smirked, his expression oozing with sleaze.
"I don't believe you can get away with everything." My finger accidentally brushed against Melody's face. "Melody, why is your face so hot?"
"Hehe, she drank a drink spiked with aphrodisiac. What do you expect?" Max chuckled triumphantly, suddenly stepping in front of me and grabbing my chin tightly, causing me almost to cry out in pain.
"Mechelle, you're much prettier than Melody. If you're willing to spend the night with me, I'll make sure you're not disappointed."
"Screw you! If you dare lay a finger on Mechelle, I won't let you off," Melody cursed loudly.
"You bitch, if you swear one more time, I'll kill you right here!" Max's rage exploded, and he slapped Melody across the face, almost knocking her down.
"Max, you should know there's always someone more powerful. My connections might be stronger than yours."
"Hahaha... you?" Max laughed arrogantly, sneering at me. "Mechelle Diaz, do you really think you're some kind of hotshot? Today, I want both you and Melody to spend the night with me. How about a threesome? I'll make sure to satisfy both of you."
"Max, you're just a jerk!" I shielded Melody behind me, praying that Louis Duncan would come to rescue us soon.
"Mechelle Diaz, you brought this upon yourself. Don't blame others. I was even considering finding a nicer spot, but now it seems unnecessary. We'll settle it right here. I'll take some photos and upload them online. In less than half an hour, you and Melody will be famous throughout the whole school..."
"Do you dare touch me? I'll make you regret it."
"Oh really? I thought you were just a boring girl. Didn't expect you to have some spice. Tonight, you're mine, and Melody can be theirs." Max reached out and touched my cheek, wearing a sleazy, cunning grin. "Mmm, such smooth skin..."
Just as I was about to call upon my wolf, "Bang!" The bathroom door was suddenly kicked open. The boys inside reacted too late, as in a blink of an eye, Louis Duncan had taken them down, leaving only Max standing before me. He looked coldly at the trembling boy and then turned to me, asking, "What should we do with him?"
All I cared about now was Melody. The others were inconsequential to me. "Louis, my friend was drugged by them. We need to get her to the hospital quickly."
"Consider yourself lucky!" Louis Duncan kicked Max in a sensitive spot before helping me support Melody and rushing to the hospital.
In the hospital corridor...
"Thank you for saving us. If you had come any later, I don't know what I would've done..."
"Mechelle, stop being so polite with me all the time. You've thanked me several times today. If you keep this up, next time you're in trouble, I might not show up as promptly."
I didn't know what to say for a moment. In the eyes of others, she was his stepmother, and he was her stepson. Their relationship was strictly limited to that. She didn't dare to take a step further.
"You saved us. Saying thank you is the least I can do."
"Mechelle, I like it when you call me by my name, Louis."
Mechelle Diaz tried to avoid, but her feet seemed rooted to the ground, unable to move, allowing him to help her tidy her hair.
"Okay, then if no one's around, I'll call you Louis from now on."
She thought, anyway, that devil wouldn't know. Might as well be a bit wilful for once! A man like him must have many girls liking him, but she didn't even have the qualification to like him.
"That's more like it!" Louis Duncan smiled.
"Your friend is fine now. You can go in and see her." A nurse approached, her eyes widening the moment she saw Louis Duncan. It wasn't until Louis Duncan and Mechelle Diaz walked into the ward that she snapped back to reality. "It's Louis, really Louis..."
"Ah! I've seen the legendary Louis."
The young nurse was so excited she almost jumped up. She quickly fetched a notebook and pen from the office and hurried into the ward, stuttering, "Louis, could you please give me an autograph?"
Even Melody, half lying on the hospital bed, recognized Louis Duncan. She was speechless with excitement, but I didn't have much of a reaction. I watched as Louis Duncan graciously signed the autograph for the nurse and then kindly took a photo with her.
"Thank you, Louis. You're much handsomer than in the movies," the young nurse said before rushing out.
"Um, I think we should head back early! If that nurse spreads the word, the reporters might come up with flattering stories," I said tightly, suddenly feeling guilty for involving him.
"Mechelle, I'm fine now. You and Louis go ahead!" Melody said with a smile, winking at me.
Louis Duncan seemed a bit hesitant, after all, he had only returned to RED BLOOD PACK for a few days. If some scandal were to suddenly break out, Cecilia would start nagging in his ear again, and besides, the girl next to him was his stepmother...
The night had a slight chill to it. After leaving the hospital, I sneezed unexpectedly. My clothes felt thin, and the cool night breeze slipped inside. I instinctively crossed my arms.
"Here, take this!" Louis Duncan took off his suit jacket and draped it over my shoulders. He rubbed his hands together and smiled, "It's getting chilly at night. Remember to dress warmer if you go out again. Catching a cold isn't pleasant."
"Okay." I nodded slightly, feeling warm inside. My nose tingled, and my eyes became moist.
His jacket carried his scent, a faint aroma of daisies, a clean and fresh fragrance.
Could Louis be my mate? Moon goddess, please save me.
When I snapped out of my thoughts, he had already taken several steps outside. I hurriedly ran after him.
Back in the car, I remembered about going back to school tomorrow. Several times, I wanted to ask him about borrowing money, but I couldn't bring myself to say it.
"Say what's on your mind!" Louis Duncan couldn't help but chuckle softly, his lips forming a charming curve.
"I... it's nothing..." I quickly lowered my head, fiddling with my fingers, feeling inexplicably anxious.
"The money is ready for you. Here!" Louis Duncan pulled out a bank card from his wallet. The smile on his lips was gentle, but it warmed my heart. "The password is your birthday."
I stood there momentarily, forgetting to take the card from him, only wondering how he knew my birthday.
"Curious why I know your birthday?" Louis Duncan smiled at me.
"Yes." I nodded heavily.
"It's actually easy to find out. When you got off the car at noon, I made a call to your school leaders, letting them know you'll be back at school tomorrow." Louis Duncan glanced at me with a playful smile. "Little one, are you touched by me?"
"I'm not a little one."
I took the bank card from his hand, silent for a while before slowly saying, "Louis, could you please not be so good to me? I'm afraid I might start to like this feeling, and I'm even more afraid that one day, if you stop being good to me, I won't be able to bear that kind of blow."
"You're such a silly girl. Who rejects someone being good to them like this?" Louis Duncan smiled helplessly.
