"Louis, if you're too good to me, I might get attached to you. I used to have a dad who was really good to me, gave me the best of everything. Whatever I wanted, no matter how hard, he would do it for me. But he committed suicide, leaving me alone in this world..."
A wry smile tugged at the corner of my mouth as I turned to face the man standing beside me, looking at him earnestly. "Do you think if my dad knew I was living like this, he would regret leaving me behind?"
Louis was taken aback.
"Heh... Anyway, I'll try to keep going."
"Mechelle, was your dad good to you?" Louis suddenly asked.
I instinctively raised my head, a fleeting look of surprise in my eyes, then smiled. "Um, Elder Daniel was pretty good to me."
I hadn't forgotten Daniel's warning that I couldn't reveal our fake marriage, or else I would be in danger.
