Chapter One Hundred and Five
"My lady?" he repeated, his voice quieter now, almost curious, as though testing the waters of her anger. "Are you mocking me?"
Rain stared at him, her bloodshot eyes narrowing in defiance. She waited, searching his face for a defense, an explanation, anything that might justify the mockery she felt in his words.
"Do you call me my lady even after you were the one who stripped me of that very title?" she bit out, her voice low and edged with fury. She gritted her teeth against the sharp pain spreading through her chest, determined not to show him weakness. "Why did you spare me? Why have you brought me here?"
For a moment, silence hung between them. Then he chuckled softly, the sound low and mirthless. It was the kind of laugh that made her stomach churn. He tilted his head slightly, studying her as though she were an enigma he couldn't quite solve.
