The library

The two kids passed the umbral entering the library. No one had done so in ages, and in these forgotten lands of sand it was forbidden to explore, not only this building, but everything that went beyond the borders of understanding.

Outside a storm was raging. No water fell from the sky, it was just the minuscule particles of sand covering the sun, making all the colors fade into black or red, while choking anyone outside. It could be a coincidence, but the storm started when they were close to the library, leaving no option but to go in.

From a far, it seemed just like a pillar growing out the sands. They intended to use it to create a tent but, as they closed the gap, it was clear it wasn't just a pillar of rock.

- Look! What is all if that? - said the girl. Her brother could tell that she was exited.

- I don't know, maybe we shouldn't go. - the boy's voice broke a bit, he was clearly afraid, but his sister was not having it. Without a second thought she took him by the hand and dragged him to the door. He could feel her excitement, her hand was sweaty and she wasn't paying attention to the road at all. While he was afraid, it was also understandable for him. It is the first time. When are we going to ever see something this different? He couldn't blame her.

Inside things were calmed. Barely any light got in from the windows and the door, but the space was clean, there was almost no sand within, they brought most of it with them. In the shadows they could make out some shapes resembling inner pillars, blocks spread through the space and tables, but there was not enough light to be able to explore. - Let's set camp here, we can't even see a thing, so is better to be by the door. We don't know what's inside - There was a clear urge from the boy to stop exploring. He started to unpack the emergency blanket. - I think we can make a pretty good tent against this wall and rest until the storm ends.

- Why would we make a tent? Let's use that for a bed! We have a roof and the sand is not getting in, so no need for a tent! - she said while folding her blanket in such a way that she could sleep over it.- besides, aren't you curious? This place is huge, I think the whole tribe could fit in. Maybe if we explore it and bring them back all of us could live more comfortably.

- I don't think so, this place is scary. We shouldn't have come. I'm going to make my tent against the wall, if you want, come inside to sleep.

- How boring.

The two of them then went silent. The storm was raging and they spent hours hearing the sand against the walls outside, the weird clash of the tiny particles against the window glass and the whistling sound of the wind passing throught the door closed ajar.

Where are we? - asked the boy as he fell asleep next to the wall.
