As they worked, Alice couldn't help but think of her mother. Mary's condition had stabilized, but she was still in the hospital, and Alice visited her every day, finding solace in their conversations.

One evening, as Alice sat by her mother's bedside, Mary opened her eyes and smiled weakly. "You're doing so well, Alice. I'm so proud of you."

Alice squeezed her mother's hand. "I couldn't have done it without you, Mom. Your strength keeps me going."

Mary's eyes filled with tears. "You're my greatest achievement, Alice. Keep fighting. Never give up."

"I won't, Mom," Alice promised. "I'll see this through to the end."
