Chapter 18 - Encounter

Revisit the entire event.

Two days ago, or perhaps longer ago, a group of four friends was haunted. One of them turned into a monster and began hunting and killing the rest.

There's no problem with the logic here, the only thing that's not right here is the monster's identity.

It wasn't Billy, it had to be Joe.

"The headless body we found at Joe's house wasn't Joe, it had to be Billy's. Because of its location and the fact that its identity could not be recognized, I confused the identities of the two people."

That also explains the fact that Billy's parents are still alive. If Billy is a monster, there is no reason for him to ignore the two people living right next to him.

Through his acts of violence against Paul, Kane and Orson. Colin was certain that although this monster was focused on the prey it had targeted, it was still ready to attack other subjects.

"So why is Joe afraid of Billy and wants Billy to stay away? That must be Billy's reaction, right?"

"Not really, you can explain it in another way. That is, Joe is afraid that he will harm his best friend, so he wants Billy to stay away from him."

Of course Joe's efforts were still meaningless. Billy and the others were still killed, starting a series of horrifying beheadings.

Colin scoffed at himself. At the beginning of the investigation, he reminded everyone on the team that they should not be imprisoned in the old way of thinking.

No one could have imagined that in the end, he would be imprisoned by his thinking, leading to wrong judgment.

"Wait, but what's the point of this?"

"Very useful, because there's a good chance that monster will return to Joe's house. The lecturer once said that low-level monsters' mobility is very limited, so I think it must return" nest" or something like that."

"That's where we're going to kill it."

Colin's eyes flashed with cruelty.

Once again, they returned to Joe's house.

Unlike in the afternoon, the light in front of the house was turned on, it seemed that after Colin left, someone came to this place.

"Be careful."

"Okay."

The two stealthily approached the house, but when Matthew was about to approach the front door, Colin stopped him. He thought it would be too reckless to just step in.

"Go through the back door."

Both of them went back to the backyard. Then quietly enter the house. Last time he was here, he checked and the door was not locked. If what lived here was a monster, it probably wouldn't care whether the door was locked or not.

As soon as he entered the house, the scene that met Colin's eyes almost made his heart stop beating.

Because the back door of the house is directly adjacent to the kitchen. So just step through the door and you will see the entire kitchen.

In the middle of the kitchen is a dining table, however what is "displayed" on the dining table is not food but a human head.

Each head is placed haphazardly, with a vivid expression just like the moment before each victim's death is faithfully preserved.

Colin and Matthew tried to suppress the feeling of nausea and went in quietly.

On the way, Colin saw a collapsed corpse near the stairs. Through observation, this appears to be the body of a man.

"It's Joe's father."

Colin immediately remembered the man he had called today. It seemed he had gone home to find his son, but what awaited this father was a monster.

"Dude, it's not your fault that these people died."

"I know."

Colin always kept calm.

He knew what Matthew wanted to do. Blonde hair wanted to comfort him, make him not feel guilty when facing the deaths of the victims.

But Matthew still doesn't understand him clearly. Colin is more rational than anyone, and he won't let symbols fool him.

After all, even he, Matthew, and all the victims killed by monsters were just people who were teased by fate and got caught up in this incident.

Majeure.

At this moment, Matthew heard a sound. He whispered to Colin.

"I heard noises."

"Where?"

"It seems like it's upstairs. It's the sound of something moving. But... it's a bit strange, not like footsteps."

Colin didn't ask why Matthew could hear and he couldn't, he just focused on the goal at hand.

"Can you guess which direction that thing is moving?"

"I'll try… Wait a minute, that thing stopped."

"Could it have detected our presence?"

Colin thought.

Meanwhile, Matthew announced that the thing had continued to move. Based on the sound, it seemed like it was getting closer to them.

Hearing this remark from Matthew, Colin's first reaction was disbelief. If the monster was on the second floor, how could it sense the presence of a living creature on the first floor?

If the monster already had the ability to do so, then the moment they entered the house, Matthew would have known the monster was approaching. It doesn't have to take a while to appear.

Unless…

Colin thinks of one possibility.

"Upstairs, quick!"

"Huh? So we're going to clash directly with monsters?"

"No, it's not on the second floor, it's moving on the first floor ceiling!"

Even though he came to this conclusion through pure deduction, Colin did not have any hesitation.

Not because he was confident in himself, but because Colin knew now was not the time to hesitate.

Both of them quickly ran up the stairs, and at the same time Matthew heard the monster's movements increase dramatically.

Obviously it knew of their presence.

"Careful!"

Colin shouted loudly as he ran, then suddenly turned around and released the Mark to attack forward. Just in time, that monster jumped down from the ceiling.

In the monster's hand, it held a knife covered in blood. As soon as he jumped down, it swung the knife horizontally, trying to behead Colin. But what was stuck to its face was an Attack Mark.

It seemed like there was a sound like burning flesh appearing, the monster screamed miserably. Taking this opportunity, Colin was pulled out of the danger zone by Matthew and successfully ran to the second floor.

"Has it been destroyed?"

"No, that thing is about to revive."

Colin frowned, the current situation was not too optimistic.

Although the attack mark is effective, it is not fatal enough. On the contrary, it makes the monster even more insane.

Sure enough, right after that there was a shrill scream, the monster's whole body twisted deformedly, and it began to crawl on the wall.

The attack mark on the monster's body faded and disappeared, obviously because the energy contained in it had been completely consumed.

Seeing the monster's fingers stuck into the wooden wall, Colin felt cold all over.

"The energy from one attack Mark is not enough, so using multiple Marks will be effective."

Matthew yelled, reminding Colin.

The blonde also took out all the Attack Marks he had kept in his pocket, rushing towards the monster.

Colin couldn't stop this outburst in time.

The monster saw Matthew rushing towards it and reacted, jumping towards Matthew. It turned the knife around, seemingly about to succeed in stabbing Matthew to death.

But Matthew's martial arts seemed very good. He suddenly turned around to avoid the straight knife, one hand holding onto the stair railing, the other hand sticking the entire Attack Mark he was holding on the monster's body.

When the Mark of Attack comes into contact with a monster, it's like it turns into sticky tape. No matter how much the monster scratches and tears, it cannot be removed from the body.

The Attack Marks emit much stronger energy than before, making the monster look like it's about to be burned alive.

The monster screamed miserably, fell down the stairs writhing in pain. Taking this opportunity, Matthew also returned to Colin's side, and they both looked down the stairs.

The next second, both people's faces changed.

Although the energy from the Attack Mark continued to burn the monster, it could only lie on the ground screaming in pain, but Colin and Matthew could both see that this monster was not seriously injured.

"What the hell is this! That's four Marks attacking at once!"

Matthew also couldn't believe that his reckless action just cost the monster only a few dozen seconds.

"Can't be here anymore."

Colin didn't dare to stay, he needed more time to think about a solution.

If he didn't wait for the four Attack Marks to disappear, Colin feared he could only continue to use the remaining Attack Marks to neutralize the monster.

But once the Mark of Attack was exhausted, they had no hope of winning.

Both of them ignored the monster and hid in the bathroom on the second floor. Immediately after entering the room, Colin took out his remaining three Defense Marks and pasted them on the door.

That should be able to stop the monster for a while.

At this point, Colin and Matthew could breathe a sigh of relief.

"Why is that thing so strong?"

"I don't know, maybe it evolved something because it killed too many people."

"So what should we do now, run away?"

"No, can't run away anymore."
