Chapter 34 - chapter 33

Lucy's expression changed from shock to fear as Jacob's eyes glowed and his canines long. "She created us, you dimwit!" He snarled as she moved back though not touching the silver bars that held them captive. "But… don't you want your life back, you've lived for more than a hundred years and you're fighting for her. Standing by her!" She said trying to bring the angered fox back to his senses though her fear knew no bounds.

"If we kill her…our life would be normal, you… I mean us, all of us would live our normal life back"

Jacob lunged at her but Drella pushed him back trying to calm him down.

"Calm down, mi amore". She said in English. "Don't blame her, Iris didn't enlighten the young girl. She lacks the essential knowledge"

"Iris loved her! And even if she lacked the knowledge, she shouldn't have told Cordelia where she was !" He said in french as Drella patted his head. "Emotions Jacob. The same way you want to kill her is the same way she was so overwhelmed by grief and guilt and told the master off. So darling, you need to calm down", she said and he sighed.

" Dear Lucy, she lied to you. That snivelling fox, Cordelia, and now to exact her evil plans she has made a pact with darkness and once Iris is dead, we would all be dead"

"No! You're lying. All of you are lying…" she broke down weeping, her hair everywhere. "That's why we should find a way out, dear, if she dies, we…"

Lucy shook her head, she wanted to believe them but couldn't. She was so blinded by her emotions and her selfish desires that she had violated Iris's advice to run. Iris was the one that would protect her from evil, but she had given her into the hands of true evil. And then she realised…

She wasn't a true friend.

She wasn't a true slave.

Freedom came with a price but she neglected it. She missed the point that her freedom was her master who she was enslaved to, who their fate was forever intertwined.

Drella put her hands on her shoulder. "It wasn't your fault, little one, I hated her before you did, I wished to kill her and earn my freedom but… I realised that she was my freedom from eternal damnation"

"But she told me I was the only surviving slave!" She said not knowing what to believe and what not to.

"That was to protect us, silly. I don't know anyone here except Jacob and I'm sure that goes to all of us here". It was Ling, her voice as tiny as ever. She stood up stretching herself and sat down again.

Lucy tried to touch the bars. "Don't…" Jacob started to say but she had already touched it and it hurt her as hell. "It's silver"

"We Foxes, wolves and other beasts are hurt by silver, that was why in the era of the wolf hunters and the beast hunters, they used silver bullets and knives instead of normal ones", Ling said again feeling a little proud about a brief history she just said.

"I'm trapped in this hell when I'm having a fudging election today!" Jayson said shaking his head.

"And today is the day of the blood moon. The awaited day to unseal iris's curse and to kill her too", Jacob said gritting his teeth in anger and frustration.

"All hope is lost", Lucy whimpered making everyone keep calm.

"I'm sorry, it's my fault", she said crying out loud making the creeping beast howl and the birds of the night fly away into the dark and dangerous night.
