Gabrielle drew closer to Fay, and pulled her into a hug. She felt the coldness, and stillness of her body, and it pained her deep in her core.
Drawing warmth from every part of her body that presented one, she offered it to her in the form of a tight hug.
She didn't let go until she felt some life in her again.
"I'm so sorry," she said, when she finally pulled her away.
"For– for what?" Fay asked, still a little too rattled to speak concisely.
"For Ace. He's a lot of things, but I never thought he'd hurt you this way. I'm in no way condoning his actions, or making excuses for his wrongdoing. I'll even understand if you want to leave. I personally could never condone a cheating partner."
It hurt her to speak this way about her son, but she couldn't help it. She loved Fay. Adored her so much, because she mirrored her in many ways.
