Fay shut her eyes tighter, pretending not to hear the quiet tap of feet shuffling the ground.
The blinds were tightened shut, entrapping even the slightest hint of sunlight trying to bypass it.
Closer the feet drew, and stopped at the foot of the bed.
"Still pretending to be asleep?" She heard an English tone question, and she smiled.
"Doctor Alexander?" She opened her eyes.
"You're awake. And please Fay, it's just Alexander to you."
"Leighton calls you Xan. Ironic because it's slang for hard drugs, and you're a doctor," she chuckled hysterically at her joke.
Her laughter dialed when Alexander's brow remained lifted.
"How do you know about the hard drug, Xan?"
"Uhmmm, didn't Leighton tell you the area we grew up in wasn't really the safest? She had the nicest house around, and it was only because it had a garden."
"So, there were lots of druggies around?" He asked, clearing a space to sit beside her.
