Ace's forehead lowered, until it was resting on Fay's.
He cupped her face with his palms, as they stood in the centre of the lonely road that no cars seemed to pass through.
"Why are you doing this?" Fay whispered through her quivering lips.
"Because I don't understand what is going on anymore. I'm so confused, Fay. I'm so—"
His lips moved to claim hers, but she shifted her face to the side, dodging the action.
In the same breath, she stepped back, creating some space between them again.
"No," she said with stronger conviction in both her voice, and her heart this time around. "That ship has sailed, Ace."
"So why did you sleep with me? If we're so done, why did you do that?"
"To show you that sex doesn't equal love. It's just sex. We could easily do it right now, and it would still not mean a thing to me."
His heart sank at her abrasive response. She was being brutal. Showing him no atom of mercy.
