"Lapras!"
Rex exclaimed in surprise.
He hadn't expected to catch a Lapras, a very rare Pokémon that usually traveled in groups and was seldom seen alone.
"Poliwhirl, use Brick Break!"
Without further hesitation, Rex decided to capture this Lapras.
The Lapras, pulled to the surface by Rex, was understandably angry. It retaliated by spraying a Water Gun from its mouth. However, due to Poliwhirl's Water Absorb ability, the attack had no effect.
Poliwhirl quickly approached Lapras and delivered a powerful Brick Break to its head, stunning it. Poliwhirl followed up with another Brick Break to Lapras's neck, leaving the Pokémon unable to continue the battle.
Seizing the opportunity, Rex threw an Ultra Ball. Given Lapras's base stats of 535, he deemed the Ultra Ball a safer bet.
The unconscious Lapras was enveloped in the red light of the Ultra Ball and was quickly captured after only two shakes.
"Heh heh heh"
Rex couldn't help but chuckle as he held the Ultra Ball. Not only had he caught a rare Lapras, but he had also done it by fishing, feeling a step closer to becoming a master angler.
After a brief moment of elation, Rex released Lapras from the Poké Ball and used his healing abilities to treat its injuries. The life energy's miraculous effects soon had Lapras feeling better than ever.
Recognizing Rex's strength and fair capture, Lapras quickly accepted him as its trainer.
Watching Lapras play with Poliwhirl in the sea, Rex began reading up on the Pokémon's information.
Lapras's upper body is blue, with white skin from its chin to the tip of its tail. It has a horn on its head and spiral structures on its sides. Its back has a gray shell with many bumps. It has four fins, the front two being larger. Its skin is smooth and cool to the touch.
Lapras is an intelligent and kind-hearted Pokémon, highly resistant to cold, unafraid of icy seas. It can understand human speech and enjoys ferrying people across the sea, singing melodious songs when in a good mood.
With Lapras captured, Rex lost interest in fishing and decided to wait for Ash and the others to return. It was already near evening, and they should be back soon.
Indeed, not long after, Rex saw a boat docking, and Ash and his friends disembarked.
"Rex, you missed out today! We found a sunken treasure!" Ash excitedly recounted the day's adventures.
The more Rex listened, the more he felt he made the right choice by not joining them. Ash and the others had been in a deep-sea chase with Team Rocket, nearly destroying their submarine and almost getting trapped in an underwater cave. If not for a Relicanth's help, they might still be stuck there.
The so-called treasure they recovered from Team Rocket turned out to be a box of green shards, not worth much.
Overall, the risk far outweighed the reward.
"What were you up to, Rex?" May asked curiously.
"Come out, Lapras!"
Rex smiled and released Lapras from its Poké Ball, seizing the moment to show off a bit.
"Wow, a Lapras! It's super rare!" Max exclaimed, running over to examine Lapras excitedly.
"This brings back memories. I wonder how my Lapras is doing?" Ash reminisced about the Lapras he had caught during his Orange Islands journey, which he later released to rejoin its group.
"Lapras is rare, indeed. But why did you bring it out now?" May asked, puzzled by Rex's sudden display.
Rex then recounted his relaxing afternoon and how he caught Lapras while fishing near the rocky area.
"Wow, I wish I had gone fishing with you! I'd love to catch a Lapras!" May said enviously.
"Rex, can your Lapras take me for a ride on the sea? I've never ridden a Lapras before." Max pleaded.
"You'll have to ask Lapras, but be sure to stay safe!" Rex replied.
After getting Rex's approval, Max eagerly asked Lapras, who agreed to take him for a ride.
"Max is such a handful." May worried about her brother's safety.
Fortunately, Max returned soon, looking thrilled by the experience.
"How was it riding Lapras?" Rex asked.
"It was amazing, completely different from being on a boat! When I become a trainer, I want to catch a Lapras and travel the seas on it." Max exclaimed excitedly.
"Alright, I'm starving. Let's go eat." May urged.
Thanks to the day's adventures, Kusa and Rito invited Ash and the others over for dinner, including Rex, who hadn't joined the treasure hunt.
After a sumptuous meal, May learned to make jewelry from the green shards with Rito's guidance, while the others strolled along the beach, returning late to rest.
The next morning, Rex and his friends bade farewell to Kusa and Rito and boarded a ship to the Three Island Archipelago. Before leaving, Rito gifted them jewelry made from the green shards. Rex, however, chose to purchase some with Alliance Coins, feeling it was fair given his less personal connection with the couple.
The Three Island Archipelago consists of three nearby islands: A Island, B Island, and C Island. A Island has a Pokémon Center, while B and C Islands only have transport facilities to send critically ill Pokémon to A Island.
