Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Compensation

"You're saying that there was another survivor in the last cruise ship accident, and it's a child?"

Due to the urgency of the situation, Officer Jenny reported the matter to the Pokémon League after settling Rex. Now she's in contact with Officer Jenny from Slateport City.

"Yes, cousin, I've already transmitted the photo of this boy to you. Now I need you to compare it with the passenger list of the cruise ship to confirm the authenticity of the matter!"

Officer Jenny from Slateport City happened to be Officer Jenny's cousin from Fallabor Town. The two of them were very familiar with each other, so they knew that the other wouldn't joke about such things.

"Don't worry, I'll settle this boy named Rex first, and I'll confirm it as soon as possible."

Officer Jenny from Slateport City replied sternly.

She was also one of the rescue personnel in the previous cruise ship incident. Unfortunately, by the time they received the news and went to rescue, many passengers had already died or gone missing.

She knew that the missing passengers most likely had already left this world.

It had been almost a month since the incident. Half a month ago, they had already given up on the rescue.

Because the chances of survival for the passengers afterwards were very slim.

Unexpectedly, Officer Jenny from Fallabor Town brought her news of a survivor today.

Three days later,

Rex, who had become a street urchin, looked at the two identical Officer Jennys in front of him with confusion.

In the past few days, Rex had wandered all over Fallabor Town.

Now, the residents of the town all knew him. Relying on his thick skin and sweet mouth, he had already mooched food from all the shops on the street.

He had no choice. He was penniless now, so he could only rely on shamelessness to get by.

But this shouldn't be illegal, right? Why were two Officer Jennys coming to arrest him?

He could only obediently follow behind Officer Jenny and return to the police station.

Walking all the way sandwiched between the two Officer Jennys, Rex felt that his reputation in Fallabor Town must have changed.

"Ah, I wonder if I can still eat for free with my face in the future!"

Rex couldn't help but sigh.

"Rex, I've verified your identity information. You are indeed a survivor of the cruise ship accident."

Speaking was Officer Jenny from Slateport City. After receiving the photo of Rex transmitted by her cousin, she began the verification process. Actually, the verification process ended quickly because the photo and the identity information of Rex are matched.

After that, she had been working on compensation for the accident. Since Rex was just an 11-year-old boy, the Pokémon League entrusted Officer Jenny from Slateport City to handle the compensation matters for him.

After everything was settled, Officer Jenny from Slateport City rushed over to deal with Rex's accident compensation issue.

Both Officer Jennys actually went to the Pokémon Center first. However, they searched everywhere and couldn't find Rex.

In the end, they learned from Rina that Rex went out wandering the streets every day.

That's why the scene of the two Officer Jennys taking the street urchin Rex away happened.

"Oh!"

Hearing Officer Jenny say that his identity had been confirmed, Rex couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief, but he gestured for Officer Jenny to continue.

"Unfortunately, your parents have passed away. Due to your disappearance, their bodies have already been buried in the cemetery in Slateport City. You can go there to pay your respects when you have time!"

Officer Jenny from Slateport City said to Rex with some sadness.

"I'm mentally prepared. Given the situation on the day of the accident, I am blessed to have survived!"

Rex said with a solemn expression.

Seeing Rex so strong, both Officer Jennys felt uncomfortable.

"The Pokémon League has entrusted me to handle the compensation for you, so it took a while. I apologize!"

Officer Jenny from Slateport City explained why it took so long.

"You've handled it very promptly. How could I have any objections?"

Seeing that Rex didn't seem like an ordinary child, Officer Jenny thought that the person she was talking to was actually an adult, or even adults couldn't remain as calm as Rex in such situations.

But how could she know that the Rex in front of her was actually a visitor from another world, where he had experienced similar things.

"You can receive a total compensation of 500,000 Alliance coins. This includes 400,000 Alliance coins for the death compensation of your parents and 100,000 Alliance coins as your compensation!"

Actually, the League's compensation for survivors wasn't this high. It's just that considering Rex lost his family in the accident and had been living alone in the wilderness for so many days, they made an exception to compensate him with 100,000 Alliance coins.

Of course, Officer Jenny from Slateport City played a significant role in this.

"Alright, I have no objections!"

After hearing that he could receive such a large compensation, Rex naturally had no objections.

Even if he did, as a child now, he wouldn't be able to fight for more compensation. This was already the best result for him.

"What are your plans for the future? Do you want to settle with me in Slateport City? I can find an orphanage for you."

Officer Jenny from Slateport City asked Rex.

"Uh, that won't be necessary. I want to settle in this small town. Is that possible?"

Rex didn't want to be controlled in an orphanage. He already had startup capital now and planned to buy a Farm, starting his career as a Pokémon World farm owner.

"Of course, I can help you settle in Fallabor Town, but the conditions here are indeed not as good as in Slateport City!"

Officer Jenny from Fallabor Town was very happy to hear that Rex wanted to stay in the small town. However, she needed to explain the situation clearly to prevent him from regretting it later.

"It's okay, I really like the life here. The people here are very friendly!"

Rex said firmly.

"Now that you've made up your mind, I won't say anything more. This is your identity card in the Hoenn region. 500,000 Alliance coins have been deposited inside. You need to take good care of it and don't lose it!"

Officer Jenny from Slateport City handed the pre-processed identity card to Rex.

"Now that everything here is settled, my cousin, please change the ownership of Rex's identity card to Fallabor Town later!"

"I understand, cousin. I'll do it later!"

At this moment, Rex finally learned that the two Officer Jennys were actually cousins.

After that, Officer Jenny from Slateport City rode her motorcycle back to Slateport City. She had a lot of things to deal with over there and couldn't stay away for too long, unlike Officer Jenny from Fallabor Town, who didn't have much to do all day.

Next, Officer Jenny from Fallabor Town handled Rex's procedures for settling in Fallabor Town. From this moment on, Rex could be considered a resident of Fallabor Town. Before this, he could only be considered as staying temporarily.

Seeing that everything was settled, Rex quickly asked about the Farm.

Officer Jenny was also shocked when she heard that

Rex wanted to buy Jiro Farm.

She didn't expect a child like Rex, who was only 11 years old, to already have the idea of managing a farm. Usually, children of their age aspired to become Pokémon trainers and travel around.

However, thinking of Rex's experience, she fell silent!

"Now that you want to buy Jiro Farm, let me introduce you. I happen to know the situation quite well."

After Officer Jenny's introduction, Rex learned some information about the Jiro Farm. Currently, the farm was managed by an old man named Jiro. Due to his old age, he couldn't work on the farm anymore.

Moreover, his children were all working in Slateport City, so he decided to sell the farm and move to live with his family.

Officer Jenny said she could help Rex negotiate with Mr. Jiro and try to get him to lower the price.

Rex was very grateful for Officer Jenny's help, although he didn't show it. He would repay her properly in the future.

After that, Rex returned to the Pokémon Center first. Officer Jenny said he could stay here for the time being. Once the farm matters were settled, he could move directly to the farm to live.

That night, Rex couldn't sleep. Thinking that he could own such a large farm, he was so excited that he couldn't fall asleep. Even Tailow couldn't sleep because of him, resulting in both of them having dark circles under their eyes the next morning.
