Chereads / The Exorcist's Legacy / Chapter 4 - QUARTUS: Defendere

Chapter 4 - QUARTUS: Defendere

ADRIEN ran ahead.

He didn't want to be bossed around especially by someone middle class. If his father saw him now he would be disappointed. A Reed following orders given by a prat but he would do anything for his sister.

They were connected more than by blood. When Bloody Mary possessed her, he felt cold to the bone. The feeling was malevolent.

He reached the first toilet in his path and found nothing there. It was plain and empty. Maybe the halfbreed was lying but it was better than doing nothing. He proceeded to the next one.

Same outcome.

He was about to exit when he heard Audrey's voice coming from outside.

"Audrey is that you?" he asked.

First a sob then came the reply. "Yeah it's me."

He went outside and his sister was standing in front of the door. He was about to attack then he noticed the veins on her face were gone and her eyes weren't bloodshot anymore but her skin was as white as snow.

He quickly hugged her. "It's going to be alright."

"Yeah," she replied.

Adrien looked through the open door into the toilet. The view wasn't clear because it was dark but the sight was horrifying. There was a dark mass hovering around his sister.

Suddenly Audrey grabbed his hair and with inhuman strength she threw him towards the mirror before he had time to react.

He watched his sister smile as the mirror swallowed him like quicksand.

One down, three to go.

*****

Leo cursed his luck.

The first toilet had been empty so was the second. He was about looking for the others when the ice came.

It covered the whole corridor. Everything was layered in frost except him. He balled his fist preparing for the worst.

Audrey walked into the corridor, her heels making an ominous sound.

"Leave Audrey alone," Leo warned.

"Or else?" she asked coyly and began walking forward. "Hurting me is hurting her."

He gritted his teeth. Knowing she was right, he strategized another plan.

"I'm sorry Audrey," he apologized and snapped his fingers.

She doubled over. She felt like she was going to burst. Her chest felt like exploding.

"What did you do?" she asked him.

"I amplified Audrey's heartbeat," he explained. "Anything that makes any form of sound is under my control."

"Nice trick but-"

He did it again. It hurt him to see Audrey in pain even if she was a bitch sometimes. He was about doing it again but she reacted faster than he did.

A giant mirror erupted from the ground behind him and he flew back.

He anticipated the move. He didn't know the right frequency of sound that could shatter glass so he went all out. The mirror shook violently before it eventually shattered.

The force was too much that he flew out the mirror at the other end of the corridor.

Unfortunately for him, he was flung out of the third floor window.

Bloody Mary ginned. It wasn't what she'd expected but the brat was out of commission.

Two down, two to go.

*****

Reyna decided to stall her.

She hoped Isaac knew what he was doing. After checking the two toilets she'd found nothing.

"Audrey!" she yelled. "Bloody Mary!"

The atmosphere suddenly became cold.

"It's the pretty one," someone remarked behind her.

Reyna turned backwards and saw her. She had more color than before and Reyna realized who'd dealt with her.

"So you met Leo?" she asked. "Where is he?"

"He was a pain in the neck but he should be dead by now, if the fall didn't kill him. You're next."

Reyna didn't believe her. Audrey walked forward but something pulled her back.

It was a web.

"Now this is just being desperate," Audrey noted. She pulled it and it broke. "Weak."

Reyna dashed towards Audrey.

The next minute was a flash of fists, legs, and hair moving back and forth.

"That's what I expect from a cursed one," Audrey said panting. "It's been long since I met your type."

"Cursed?" Reyna asked.

"Your snow white hair proves it," Bloody Mary explained. "But from your expression it shows that you don't have a clue about what I am saying. That was entertaining while it lasted."

A mirror appeared Reyna and Audrey punched her with inhuman strength but she was in for a surprise.

As Reyna flew back Audrey was yanked along with her.

"How?" she asked then noticed the webs holding her and Reyna together. "When?" Then she realized when Reyna had spun them.

"You can fight and ypu're cunning," Bloody Mary complimented. "If only there was something useful for you?"

Reyna was close to the mirror but wasn't done.

With all of her strength, Reyna pulled Audrey towards her. Using Audrey's momentum, she pushed herself forward. Audrey was now headed towards the mirror.

Reyna grinned.

Audrey hit the brakes in front of the mirror.

"Audrey?"

Audrey turned her head a full 180 degrees.

"Shit!" Reyna swore.

Audrey's body turned in the direction of her head with a snap and icicles rushed at rushed at Reyna. The icicles were too much to dodge, her charism couldn't help her in this situation and there was hardly anything she could hide behind in the corridor.

With no other option she braced herself for impact.

*****

"Defendere."

It had been a while since he tried using magic but it worked.

A pentagram appeared in front of Reyna just as the icicles were about to rip her to shreds. She turned around and Isaac saw how surprised she was.

He walked past her and started chanting.

"You knew!" she exclaimed.

"We'll talk later," he replied.

"Child of light," she hissed. "There is nothing you can do to stop me. Your friend's body is-"

"Hold up," Isaac said. "Point of correction, she's not my friend and I do have a way to get rid of you." He pulled out a round mirror from his back and waved it at her.

Bloody Mary screamed. The ear deafening shriek shattered all the glass in the room but it didn't faze Isaac.

He tilted his head slightly at Reyna.

"Watch and learn," he told her.

He couldn't drag the fight any longer. If he did Audrey could die and as bad as he wanted that to happen, he couldn't let her.

"Lux!"

Lines of light surrounded her in form of an hexagram.

"Vade, daemon, inventor et magister omnis fallaciae, hosts humane salutis," Isaac chanted as the hexagram glowed brighter. That Latin statement was something his mother had taught him when she was still alive. Translated it meant, 'Begone, demon, inventor and master of all deceit, enemy of man's salvation.'

The light blinded them. He heard a satisfying pop and opened his eyes.

Bloody Mary was gone. The hexagram had burnt through the rug and smoke had begun to rise from it.

He sat on the floor panting. He looked at the mirror and saw another hexagram on it which had begun to fade. His work wasn't done.

Reyna had gone to check on Audrey. Isaac went to meet them.

"I can barely feel her pulse," Reyna noted. Audrey was as white as snow if not whiter.

"Consano," Isaac casted. Green light spewed from his hand and he passed it over her. It was a simple healing spell, like first aid, but she still required medical attention.

"That was awesome," Reyna said when she noticed Audrey had regained some color.

"One more thing," he said, " About the-"

He fainted.
