I walked along the silent path with my bare feet, everything seemed blurry as I wasn't in my right state of mind. Footsteps trailed behind me as I headed to the gate, and how the guards allowed me to leave the palace was still unknown to me.
Walking down the streets of Wraitmoor, I saw kids playing around, merchant peddling their wares from the wooden stalls, carriages of the nobles rattles by as people moved away from the road and the scent of the freshly baked bread hit me They are just like every other nation. They acted just like humans, lived like normal people, and someone could hardly know they were not.
My father had abandoned me and given the throne to my step-sister, the throne I had fought for all my life. The position I yearned for every single day, he handed it over to someone who did nothing for the nation. I was mocked and ridiculed as a child of a slave, treated no better than an animal in the palace of Astrra. But when I met Elmore, who took my hand and raised me as a warrior, everything changed. I became loved by the people; they chanted my name every day. I fought all enemies for them, and it was quite surprising they had decided to chant and praise someone else's name. They were all betrayers, crueler than the beasts of Wraitmoor, or should I say they were the demons themselves, and I would make them answer for their betrayal.
All hope was not lost, at least I still had a title here, although it was just a name and I had no power here, but I still had a place to keep my head. Ever since I arrived here, no one had laid a hand on me, which meant there was a law stopping them from doing that, and I would seize that opportunity and get what I wants.
I would gain the people's trust, rule over them, have control over their minds and actions, and then reclaim my nation back. They feared their king, and I was married to him, so I would gain their king's heart and use that as a weapon to control them.
I took a deep breath with my eyes closed, trying to calm myself down. After clearing my mind, I decided to head back to the palace, but my eyes suddenly caught a drama being performed at one side of the street. Deciding to watch since I had nothing to do at the palace, I headed there. But on getting there, I realized that the drama was actually about me.
"Your majesty, this is an insult to me and my nation. How could you do this to me?" the first actor, who was dressed like a woman, mocked me, and the people all laughed.
"It seems you are unaware of the rules since you do not belong among us. How dare you barge into my chamber when you were not summoned?" the second actor mimicked, and I scoffed at his words because that is definitely not how he put it.
As the people mocked me, I also joined them in laughing. As I had become a subject of ridicule to the people of Wraitmoor, the best thing for me was also join to them.
" The best thing for Alpha to do is to perform El drí ssa," a woman by my side suddenly spoke to another woman beside her and I wondered what that meant.
" What does that means" I suddenly asked, which startled the two young woman talking.
" It is a procedure where the king will reject her and proclaimed another lady of virtue as his worthy mate." she replied but I wondered if that is really possible without my approval because according to the laws of every Nation, he need a solid reason to dethroned me.
" What if the queen refuses, she might decided not to leave him" I posed a question at her again.
" Then she will have to fight for her place, fight with the chosen candidate which I am sure she will never be able to win" She let out a devilish smiled as I turn around and continue watching my drama because I was sure Darell would never do such since it wasn't in the condition he gave to me.
After watching the drama and also chanting "Down to the Mundane Queen," I decided to head home with a smile on my face.
I found it hard to believe that I also supported them to have me taken down from my position when it was the only thing I had left. As I proceeded back to the palace gate, I suddenly heard the the sound of the horses' hooves, and on turning back, I saw a carriage rushing towards me. Already frozen at the spot, I found it hard to move. I closed my eyes tight, waiting for the carriage to run over me, but I suddenly felt nothing.
Opening my eyes, my gaze met with two white horses, and I let out a loud sigh of relief.
"Are you alright?" a voice emerged from the carriage.
I moved to the side, and the blind was raised, revealing a very beautiful lady. Her face is a portrait of timeless beauty, with her curly ebony silk hair. Drapped in a silk velvet gown and I guessed she must be a noble lady, perhaps of royal blood because the aura coming from her was quite strong, and I could feel she was a lady of high class.
"Yes, I'm fine, My Lady," I answered with my head lowered because I knew that nothing good would come out if I revealed that I was the queen.
"I am very sorry; you must have been startled."
"No, it's definitely fine. You don't have to concern yourself about me."
"Where are you going? I can drop you off because I am heading to the palace," she offered, but I could not tell her that I was heading there. I just told her to leave.
I watched as her carriage headed to the palace, and I wondered who she was, or maybe she was the king's sister? Letting out a loud sigh, I continued on my journey back, and I felt the scorching heat on my bare feet. Now I was regretting ever leaving without wearing any shoes.
As I dragged my exhausted body back to the palace gate, I wondered how exactly I had left the palace and walked those miles without being exhausted. Maybe it was because I wasn't in my right senses at that time. As I reached the gate, I thought I would be stopped, but they just let me back in without asking any questions, and I met Natasha waiting for me at the entrance.
"I have been worried; where exactly did you go?" she asked as she quickly bent down and put shoes on my legs, and I felt relief.
"Thank you," I muttered to her, and I leaned on her as she helped me back to my chamber.
As we entered my chamber, she helped me onto my bed, and I lay down immediately with my body aching, and part of me really regretted not taking any money with me to board a carriage back to the palace.
"I will prepare your bath, so just make sure you stay in your chamber and do not even think of leaving. Do you understand me?" her voice sounded tense, and I knew there was more to the order she just gave.
I stood up from the bed and took a seat, staring into her eyes without uttering any words.
"Fine, let me just tell you. There is someone in the palace, and trust me, she is much crazier than Lady Elsa, so just make sure you stay in your chamber so you would be able to avoid her," she explained, and I wondered if she was talking about the gentle and beautiful soul that I met on my way here.
"Well... I actually met a lady on my way back, but she really doesn't seem like the one you just described. She looks kind and a lady of pure souls. That really sounds funny, or do you mean someone else?" I asked, and she let out a loud laughter.
"Wait… do not tell me you introduced yourself as the queen?"
"No, I didn't."
"That's great because you would have definitely seen her true colors if you had. There are many people who also had the same expression as you did. Lady Laura and Lady Elsa are the two candidates for the position of the queen before your arrival. Now that she is here, I doubt she will really leave without any trouble," she explained, and I got hit by a heavy headache as I realized that I just got another trouble when I wanted to start adjusting to this place.
