Unfortunately, the girl beside Liam could not get the humor and got offended for him instead.
"Hey, it's not nice to say things like that. If he was born pretty and you were born ugly, you should just accept that fact and move on. If you want girls, you'll be able to find the average ones anyways since classes will start tomorrow.", she said as she looked at Nolan with hostility in her eyes.
Nolan looked at Liam and saw him shake his head slightly, which gave him the message he wanted to convey.
"I'm not really jealous. Anyways, we're done with our lunch so I guess me and Liam will take our leave. What do you say?", he asked as he looked at Liam, who nodded and stood up from his seat before waving at the waiter.
Noah on the other hand, stopped him, "Hey, it's fine. I'll take care of the bill so think of it as my treat today."
Seeing that Noah had no hostility or any kind of ulterior motives, Liam nodded and silently left the place with Nolan while Barbara began to act grumpy.
"Tch, that guy looks like someone from the slums. Did he beg Liam to give him some food or something?", he said as she stabbed her steak angrily.
Noah on the other hand, ignored her comments and focused on his meal while he thought about the major that would work well for his future.
As Liam and Nolan walked out of the restaurant, Nolan put his hands in his pockets as he turned to look at his roommate, "Hey, how do you know that guy? I suggest staying away from him. That family is bad news for us normal people."
"What do you mean?"
"He's one of the Harrows. They own a lot of restaurants on multiple planets but that is just their side business. Their main source of income comes from dismantling and selling monster corpses. A lot of these corpses have invaluable parts and even the normally useless parts like bones and skin can be crafted into armors, clothes and other things.
I heard that his parents somehow died but even then, getting involved with him has a high chance of getting you into trouble. Though, if you utilize your friendship well, you should be able to secure a job under one of his family members through his recommendation and they do pay well. So think about it.", he said as he walked towards the dormitories.
Liam sighed in response, "I actually like that guy but his fiance has some problem in her head. Although I don't have any proof, I feel like she tried to poison me a month ago. It could either be that or Noah is really good at acting and somehow managed to make her look like a culprit.
Though, I feel like the possibility of the second case is extremely low. Anyways, is there anything I should keep in mind other than the things you already told me? I wanted to learn about it while we had lunch but those to decided to join."
"Hmm... did I miss anything?", Nolan asked himself and thought about the things he already told Liam.
"Well, just tell me about the majors if you know about them. I'll attend the introductory classes but it wouldn't hurt to know stuff earlier."
Nolan nodded, "Sure. First, we have to categorize the majors into risky and non-risky categories. Risky ones mostly involve on field jobs where you have to fight monsters, catch criminals and stuff but that's on the lower levels. If you do really well, you should be able to join some of the exploration teams that go to different planets to get some things done.
Those are the risky jobs and when we come to the non risky jobs, it's basically support jobs that involve you giving out information and instructions to people who are out fighting. You'll be in a safe room with others who do the same stuff as you. This is just one example but there are other professions like monster corpse dismantling, potions and medicine researching and stuff like that.
You'll just have to deal with dead monsters, their body parts or their organs. When we take the average statistics, the risky jobs pay more but if you take the top earners from both categories, the productive jobs have a better pay."
Liam thought about it for a while before asking the one thing that he wanted the most, "Hey, what if I want to do both. Is that possible?"
"Yeah. There aren't many who do that but there are a few. You can make one of them as your side jobs while focusing on the other. A lot of companies make you sign a contract where you're not allowed to do stuff like that so if you ever plan on going both ways, it's better to join the government or search for a private company that does not restrict you.", Nolan said as he shared his vast knowledge that he had gained from living in the academy since birth.
The two of them continued to talk as they walked back to their dormitory and just as they were about to pass by the receptionist, she stopped them.
"You guys should be from room number 271 right?", she asked at she looked at them.
"Yeah, did something happen? Oh wait was there a delivery for me?", Nolan asked as he spotted the large package beside the receptionist.
Nodding, she pointed at the package, "Yeah. Take it and go."
Nolan morphed his arms into tentacles and used them to carry the package back to his room which was in the second floor and once they were inside, he excitedly opened it up.
"Hehe, I always wanted to be a streamer so I used up all my money to buy this setup. It's not the best but it sure is one of the best ones in the market. After all, it cost me a bit more than a hundred thousand rudo.", he said as he revealed his streaming setup that was in the box.
