Chapter 1 - Sofia, My Girlfriend

Prologue (Kinda)

(A/N: Romance is a subplot in this novel. The pre-transmigration stuff will be 3 to 4 chapters long just in case you want to skip it. But I recommend reading it as it is pretty important to the overall plot.)

The hospital room was bathed in a soft, golden glow as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting warm hues across the sterile walls. Benjamin, a young man wearing a white hospital gown lay in his bed, his gaze fixed on the distant skyline visible through the window. The rhythmic beeping of the medical equipment provided a steady background noise to his solitary thoughts.

He had a lot of time on his hands from the time he was diagnosed with the accursed cancer. He never had a family and grew up in an orphanage but he somehow managed to date one of the prettiest girls in his class named Olivia.

Unfortunately, few days after he told her about his cancer, she ghosted him and went as far as switching schools so that she could avoid him. He did expect it since he was an overthinker and had already seen something like this happening in his head. But even then, he didn't expect her to directly leave the school without saying a word to him. It hurt him more than he had expected.

"Tidiiiing"

The sound of a notification brought him out of his reverie, making him turn to look at the phone.

An expensive smartphone lay on the table beside his bed, a gift from his second and current girlfriend who he had got together with after he moved on from Olivia. He picked the phone up and looked at the notification, which turned out to be a message from an unknown number. Just as he was about to tap on it to check it out, he got a call.

"Din didin diiin~ Din didin diiin~"

 ( Sofia ♡ )

Usually he didn't really check who called him as there were only two people who did so nowadays, and he didn't really care who called as he was just happy to speak to any one of them. After all, one of them was his love and the other was her brother, the person who decided to help him with his cancer.

"Hello.", he answered and a second later, he heard a sweet voice which he instantly recognized.

"Benny!!! I'm coming there right now! The doc called us and told us everything. I'm so happy and I can't wait to see you!", he heard her squeal on the other end of the phone.

He smiled as he replied, "I didn't expect him to be so fast, haha. Well, how many days will it take?"

Sofia was working in Canada for a huge tech company and she had been covering all of his medical expenses. It usually took her around a day to come visit him but for some reason, he felt like it would be different this time and he was right.

"Before I give you that answer, you have some explaining to do, sir Benjamin.", she said, her voice stern this time and he knew that whenever she added the word "sir" in front of his name, she was upset with him.

Most of the times, he would've been completely oblivious but he knew why she was upset this time.

He took a deep breath and sighed, "Well, I didn't want you to worry. The surgery was a success so can you not be so hard on me..."

When he saw that there was no response, he continued to speak, "Okay, listen. I told Seth about it and he was the one who told me not to tell you about it. He wanted me to uh... not tell you this so that you can concentrate on your work."

Again, there was no response, which made him a little anxious. "Hey, you still there?"

"Yes."

"Yeah, so like... okay, I'm sorry.", he apologized, giving in as he put his hand into his pocket before pulling out a small case.

"Hmmm, fine I forgive you. It's hard to stay angry with you on such an auspicious day anyways. I want you to promise me that you will give me all the snuggles that I need when you're discharged. I booked a very luxurious hotel room just for the two of us.", she said, mischievousness in her voice very apparent, which made him smile once again as he played with the small box.

He gently opened it with his thumb and saw the simplistic yet gorgeous ring inside as he answered, "Okay, I'll be waiting for you here. By the way, when's your flight?"

"Well, surprise surprise! I'm already in the city. I'm on the way to the hospital so sit tight and wait fo- aackkk."

"Bam! Krrrckshhhhh.... krrrrrrrr"
