That night Douma flew over the neighborhood and spotted the familiar purple hair of Shinobu sitting at her desk in her room and writing something down on her blue notebook. The girl looked really busy which piqued Douma's curiosity.
Douma glided in the air and got closer to Shinobu's window. He rested on the roof of her house, observing her intently. As usual, she was doing her homework. This time she had a lot of questions to answer on that page. If only Douma could perhaps, help her somehow? Those workings looked really complicated.
Flipping over the pages to check her progress, Shinobu wasn't aware that Douma was watching her on the roof. She took her time answering the questions.
Without realizing how close he was to Shinobu's window, Douma slipped and knocked on the glass. Shinobu immediately spun around when she heard a loud thump outside.
Surprisingly there was nobody there but Shinobu was sure she heard something.
Until Douma decided to do the unthinkable. He immediately popped out of nowhere and waved at her casually while hanging upside down, scaring her in the process.
"What on Earth?! Douma you jerk!" Shinobu yelled backing away from the window as Douma got up and hovered near the glass.
"Hey Shinobu, what's up?" Douma watched the violette slide the window open in frustration.
"You idiot! What were you thinking?! If someone sees you here-"
"Who's going to catch me here? Did you forget? This is Douma you're talking about." The angel returned to where he sat and gave Shinobu a smug look which wasn't reassuring considering the fact that anybody could be hearing their conversation in the neighborhood.
"If you came here to talk you could've just knocked on our door. My parents will kindly let you in as long as you tell them you're a friend of mine. It's not that hard."
"That's for simpletons." Douma laughed, this made Shinobu furious with his presence.
Shinobu glared at Douma who was leaning against the window ledge. "Care to explain what you're doing on my roof?"
I almost forgot what I came here for! The angel looked surprised by her question which left her confused for a second. He then moved away from the window ledge and sat on the roof again, sticking his hand towards her.
"It's something important." Douma waited for Shinobu to grab his hand so he could pull her up.
The violette hesitated for a moment, she had never done anything like this before. But Douma was here which meant she was going to be safe, so she grabbed his hand and waited as he pulled her out of her room and onto the roof where she was met with the starry night sky.
"Shinobu, is everything alright?" Douma asked.
"Yeah all's good." Shinobu replied, wondering if there was something she needed to be concern about.
The blonde's kaleidoscopic gaze met Shinobu's. "How are you coping with your powers?"
That question stumped Shinobu for a while. She didn't have much to say about her hidden powers. It was rare for them to show up.
"Since they're not harmful I guess there's nothing to worry about. If you hadn't mentioned it, I would've forgotten about them."
That was a lie, Douma was sure of it he could read through Shinobu's expression. "You don't have to hide anything Shinobu, I told you before, this is only between us."
Shinobu swallowed the bile forming in her throat. Talking about this was making her anxious. "I know that but if you keep reminding me about it-"
"The Heavenly Council is aware about the Vendetta and its user. We discussed about it when I came back." With a smile, Douma looked at Shinobu hoping she will come to realization that things were under control.
"Don't worry, the Virtue Reign will watch over you. They're one of those who know that you're the one with the Vendetta, not everybody does but they do. That's why they've always been taking care of you before you found out about it."
This came off as a shock. Shinobu was on the radar all this while, she didn't know about her power but these celestial beings did. All this while she was living a life where she had no idea about her gift, it was kept secret up there.
"Douma will I get to meet them at some point?" Asking such a question was out of the blue and Shinobu knew what the answer could possibly be. Nevertheless she still wanted to know more about her ties with these celestial beings who seem to know more about her than her own self.
"I can't say for sure," The blonde responded. "But who knows maybe they'll visit you someday, we'll just have to wait and see from now."
"Wonder when that'll be." Shinobu watched the stars blinking in the night sky, the cold breeze keeping her mind off her worries.
Douma inched closer to her until they were only a few centimeters apart. "I'll always protect you Shinobu." He said, the kaleidoscopic hues shimmering like gems in a cave.
The violette looked up at him and blinked. She felt a sense of security and honor. He really cares about me. All this while, Shinobu felt none of her friends would give her the same kind of cherishment she gave them, however this time she did.
Learning more about the Vendetta reminded Shinobu about the times her instincts and visions turned out to be true, that was before she discovered her own power.
There was one time after school when she heard about the Cherry Blossoms blooming at the park nearby. Every year they were always there and the park would be full of people sitting down at the benches with their friends and family.
Shinobu ran to the park after school, she couldn't wait to see the Cherry Blossom trees because this time, there was going to be a whole stretch of them. It was going to be a fascinating experience.
"Finally! Class is over. I can't wait!" The violette skipped down the streets and sped up towards the entrance of the park. She was met with crowds of people gathering in front of the Cherry Blossom trees, taking photos and admiring them.
The swing that she always sat on after school was empty. Relieved, Shinobu walked towards it and sat down on the swing. Besides Cherry Blossoms, she also noticed vibrant tulips beside the bushes, a whole patch of them radiating the sun's rays.
While Shinobu was on the swing that soared higher as the wind blew, she was thinking about the assignments she had at school and this being the best time to keep the tension dormant.
Just like the power she didn't know she had.
There was a boy cycling recklessly on the walkway laughing and teasing his friends running after him. Other people found his behavior absolutely intolerable.
"That boy's gonna fall. If he's not careful the ants in the grass might bite him, a whole swarm of them." Shinobu watched the boy cycling fast and wobbling whenever he checked on his friends.
It so happens that Shinobu's prediction came true, not long later the boy lost his balance and fell onto the grass beside him.
"Wahhhh! It hurts!" The boy cried, his friends quickly came over to help him. A few people started muttering about the noise he was making in the middle of the walkway. His crying was really loud, Shinobu couldn't even focus on her relaxation.
Oh he really fell. Shinobu wasn't entirely surprised since the outcome was expected, but she was a little stunned by the accuracy of the vision that was playing in her mind right before this happened.
The boy's cries turned into screams of agony. To everybody's horror, ants were crawling on his legs as fiery red bruises started appearing on his skin. All his friends backed away in fear that the ants will bite them too, so they pulled his friend up and dragged him away from the spot.
What a coincidence... Eventually, the bike was carried away too. Shinobu pouted, predicting things was normal however these visions and foretelling were vividly clear and this wasn't the first time. Sitting there, Shinobu wondered if more predictions of hers will become a reality in the long run.
Douma could tell Shinobu's mind was wandering elsewhere. How dare she ignore him like that!
Even just by waving at her, the violette was still staring into space. "Oh come on! I'm not done talking yet!"
