As the group settled in to rest for a few moments, the flickering light of Belial's magic casting dancing shadows on the cavern walls. Sitting there a sense of weariness washed over them. Their muscles ached with exhaustion, and their minds buzzed with the memory of battles won and dangers faced.
Sitting in the dim glow of the makeshift campfire, the girls listened intently as Belial began to speak, his voice low and mesmerizing as he wove a tale of battles fought and victories won in ages long past.
"There was once a creature," Belial began, his eyes distant as he recalled memories of a time long gone. "A monstrous beast, with claws as long as swords and skin as hard as diamond. It roamed the land, laying waste to all who dared to cross its path."
The girls leaned in, their eyes wide with fascination as they listened to Belial's story unfold. Tales of bravery and heroism, of battles fought against impossible odds and victories snatched from the jaws of defeat.
Belial began to share the tale with the girls.
"The ground trembled beneath my feet as a monstrous roar echoed through the air, signaling the arrival of the creature that I would soon face. Towering over me, the beast's massive form cast a shadow over the battlefield, its eyes gleaming with primal fury as it unleashed a deafening roar that sent shivers down my spine."
"Undeterred by the creature's immense size, I stood my ground with an air of grim determination, my eyes ablaze with dark magic as I prepared to face my foe. With a flick of my wrist, I conjured bolts of lightning that crackled through the air, striking the creature with relentless force. But to my dismay, the lightning seemed to have little effect, merely glancing off the creature's thick hide like raindrops against stone."
"Undeterred, I unleashed a barrage of fireballs, each one exploding upon impact with the creature's flesh in a burst of flames. Yet still, the beast remained unfazed, its roars of rage reverberating through the air as it bore down upon me with relentless ferocity."
"With my magical attacks proving ineffective, I knew that I needed to change tactics if I was to emerge victorious. With a defiant roar, I charged forward, my blade gleaming in the dim light as I plunged it into the creature's side with all my strength. But even as I struck, the creature's thick hide proved too tough to penetrate, and I found myself locked in a fierce struggle for survival."
As he spoke, the four of them hung on his every word,
"As the creature reared back to deliver a devastating blow, I saw my opportunity. With a bold leap, I dove headfirst into the creature's gaping maw, my body disappearing into the darkness of its throat. Inside the creature's belly, I found myself surrounded by darkness, my senses overwhelmed by the stench of decay and the sound of my own heartbeat echoing in my ears."
"But even in the face of certain death, I did not waver. Drawing upon every ounce of strength and determination I had, I unleashed a barrage of powerful blows from within, striking at the creature's vulnerable flesh with all my might. With each strike, the creature's roars grew weaker, its thrashing more erratic as it struggled to dislodge my, its unexpected prey."
And then, with a final, desperate cry, the creature collapsed to the ground in a heap, its lifeblood pooling around it as I emerged triumphant from its belly. Though battered and bruised, I stood amidst the wreckage, my eyes gleaming with the fire of victory as I surveyed the scene before me.
"To defeat such a creature," Belial continued, his voice grave with solemnity, "I had to resort to desperate measures. Bare that in mind, as we continue you may have to make similar decisions for the good of the entire group.."
The girls gasped in awe and horror, their minds reeling at the thought of such a daring feat. To willingly throw oneself into the belly of the beast, to face certain death in the hopes of striking a fatal blow - it was a testament to Belial's courage and resolve.
"But you survived," Rachel whispered, her voice barely above a whisper as she stared at Belial in awe.
Belial nodded, a grim smile playing at the corners of his lips. "Indeed. It was a hard-fought battle, but in the end, the creature fell, its lifeless body crumbling to dust beneath my feet."
As the echoes of Belial's tale faded into the darkness, Claire spoke up, her voice tinged with curiosity. "How old are you, Belial? You've seen so much, lived through so many ages. Do you even know?"
Belial's gaze turned inward, his eyes distant as he pondered Claire's question. "I cannot say for certain," he replied at last, his voice tinged with a hint of sadness. "Time is a fluid thing for one such as myself, and the passing of the ages is but a fleeting whisper in the wind. But I have seen many millennia come and go, witnessed the rise and fall of civilizations beyond counting."
Belial added, "To measure the passage of time in terms of days, or weeks, or years, is simply not worth the energy. What is a year but simply a minor blip on the timeline of the universe. I have seen your worlds history unfold before my eyes."
The girls exchanged incredulous glances, their minds struggling to comprehend the enormity of Belial's existence. To have lived for countless lifetimes, to have walked the earth since time immemorial—it was a concept beyond their wildest imagination. Clare being the oldest of the group at only 21 could only sit in awe as his words were spoken.
But amidst the awe and wonder, there was a sense of unease, a realization that they stood in the presence of a being of immense power and ancient wisdom. And as they huddled together in the flickering light of the campfire, they knew that their journey was far from over, and that the trials that lay ahead would test them in ways they could scarcely imagine. Through all of this the one nagging point that they could not shark was that in the end Belial was evil. It was that simple, he was evil and he was not there to care for or help them in any way. He was there to accomplish they goals he had laid out for them.
