"I can't believe they were able to get me a bigger size the day after I lodged a complaint," I said with a beaming smile, fawning over my freedom of movement as I stepped off the train and started walking the short distance to the academy, 'Maybe this time, Foureyes won't have an aneurysm, just by looking at me.'
My eyes glazed over as Ida's words echoed in my head, and I couldn't help but click my tongue in disdain. While I didn't consider myself a violent person, I couldn't help but itch at the thought of my fist cracking Ida's jaw, 'Just because you like to follow the rules doesn't mean you get to look down on everyone else...especially not my mom.'
"HEY ATOMA WAIT UP!"
A loud, boisterous voice woke me from my dark thoughts. I turned around to see Ashido running to catch up with me, waving her hand while Tsu and Uraraka trailing behind her.
"What's up?" I asked as Ashido stopped before me, slightly out of breath, "Want to walk to class together?"
"Yes!" Ashido replied with a grin, and she jumped with joy, "If you don't mind the company, that is?"
I tore my eyes away as Ashido's excitement made certain parts of her body move rather distractingly, but I managed to reply nonetheless, "I don't mind at all, but call me Kenji."
Ashido beamed up at me, "Awesome, then feel free to call me Mina!"
"Alright then," I replied with a grin before I nodded at Uraraka and Tsu, who had caught up with their more proactive friend, "Hey, Uraraka, Tsu. How are you guys?"
"Good morning, it's nice to see you, Atom-I mean Kenji," Uraraka replied with a slight blush at her slip-up as she bowed slightly.
"Relax. I'm not going to bite your head off," I said with a teasing laugh before turning to Tsu, who smiled at me, "It's nice to see you as well, Kenji, and thank you for using my nickname."
"Wait a minute, how did you know Tsu had a nickname?" Mina asked inquisitively, side-eyeing me heavily as we resumed walking
I shrugged, "Some of the guys in our class told me she liked to be called Tsu."
Mina grinned like a cat who had caught the canary, "Oh, so were you boys just talking about Tsu?"
"No," I replied honestly without hesitating, "It was kind of weird. They all started grilling me about what I thought about you guys and the other girls in our class after I said Bakugo looked cute when she was angry."
There was a moment of silence before Mina burst out laughing to the point where she had to hold her stomach, "Sorry...it's just the way you said that so casually. I didn't know guys our age could be so bold."
"What?" I asked defensively, "I can't lie for the life of me, so I just say the truth. You'd be surprised how much simpler life is without all the bullshit."
"Oh really," Mina asked with a scheming grin, "Then tell me, what do you prefer? Tits or ass."
"Depends on the girl," I replied without missing a beat while Tsu and Uraraka both stumbled at Mina's bluntness.
"Oh, then what about me?" Mina asked even more teasingly as she suddenly dashed in front of me, blocking my way and forcing me to look at her as she struck a pose, sticking her chest out and arching her back.
I took a cursory glance before nodding once as if coming to the decision of a lifetime, "While you have both in abundance. I can tell that your lower half is not only attributed to genetics but a lifetime of physical exercise and toning, probably soccer, softball, or dance. It is not just a question of shape or size, but a story of dedication and effort with bountiful results."
Mina stared at me for a long moment before breaking out into laughter, swaying on her feet unsteadily as her knees almost gave out from underneath her, "T-that is b-by far the most over-the-top way I have ever heard someone say 'you got a fat ass'!"
"Eh, sue me," I shot back, but I couldn't help but grin at the sheer ridiculousness of the question, "But striking that pose in public was insane."
Mina jumped back to her feet, flashing a peace sign and sticking out her tongue. "It was an effective thought, right?"
"Damn right it was," I answered as Mina stepped aside, letting me walk again, "So was I right?"
Mina nodded, "Yep, been dancing since I could walk."
I laughed and lost myself in conversation with Mina, all while Tsu and Uraraka walked behind us, still in stunned silence.
---
"Ashido, are you crazy?!" Uraraka stressed in a hushed whisper as he moved to the back of the class, away from Kenji, who took his seat in the front.
"What's going on?" Yaoyorozu asked, setting down a book she had been reading and leaning in to listen.
"We ran into Kenji this morning after our train," Tsu stated plainly.
"You mean Atoma?" Hagakure asked as she also leaned in.
"Turns out he likes to be called by his first name," Mina informed with a sly grin, "But that's not even the best part."
Mina then went on to explain her interaction with Kenji, steadily drawing the attention of every girl in the class who formed a circle around Yaoyorozu's desk, where Mina sat as she talked.
When Mina finished, no one spoke for a second before Jiro sighed, "You do realize he's probably going to tell all the guys about this, right?"
"Maybe, but honestly, I don't think so," Mina replied with a shrug. Glancing over her shoulder at Kenji, who was still sitting at his desk scrolling on his phone, she said, "But even if he does, I guess that means he failed the test."
"You were testing him?" Uraraka asked in disbelief.
Mina crossed her arms and nodded confidently, "Yep, in case anyone here is interested in pursuing him. Most guys who look like him are just playboys, so I decided to chum the water and see if he would take the bait."
"Wow, that's so smart, Mina," Hagakure praised as she applauded.
"No, it was stupid. It's not even been a week, and you all have already lost focus on what we're here for," Bakugo countered with a scathing reply.
Mina only grinned at Bakugo, "Don't worry, Bakugo. Everyone here knows you have first dibs on Kenji."
"Shut up, pinkie," Bakugo growled in response, but Mina only chuckled harder, "I swear I'm going to-."
"Wait, Sero and Kaminari are trying to talk to Kenji," Jiro interrupted. All at once, every girl turned to look as Kaminari and Sero leaned in over Kenji's desk, and they started to whisper conspiratorially.
"Does anyone read lips?" Hagakure asked
"I'm on it," Jiro replied as her left ear jack extended to the floor before slithering across the ground as she took a small speaker from her pocket. When her ear jack was close enough, it plunged into the ground next to Kenji's desk, and Jiro plugged her other jack into the speaker.
A second later, Kaminari's voice came through the speaker as if he were speaking into a microphone, "Hey Kenji, we saw you walking in with Ashido, Tsu, and Uraraka. What was that about?"
"Don't tell us you're making a move already?" Sero asked desperately, "It's only the second day, man!"
"Don't take this the wrong way, guys, but it's really not your business," Kenji replied, sighing as he put down his phone. I met up with them at the train station, and after Mina said hello, I asked if they wanted to walk to class together. That's really all there is to it."
"Nah, everyone could see the way that Mina was walking so close to you," Kaminari insisted, "Do you think she's into you?"
"I don't know, man," Kenji said exasperatedly, "Maybe she is, maybe that's just her personality. Either way, you know what won't help any of us...whispering about it while glancing at all of them. They're not stupid and have probably already figured out us out."
"You tell 'em, Kenji," Mina chimed in with a grin, "I knew you were different."
"Fine we'll drop it, but I seriously think you should-"
"Alright, everyone, sit down!" Aizawa's voice suddenly came through the speaker and the classroom, making the girls listening wince. Jiro quickly retracted her ear jacks and rushed to her seat.
Walking to the front of the room, Aizawa looked over the class and nodded when he saw nobody missing. "Good. To start the day, I will be going over what your daily schedule will look like at UA. You would have heard this at orientation, but I'm going to tell you in five minutes what takes them an hour to explain. In the morning, you have six classes split into two groups of three that alternate every other day. These classes will teach about the not-so-glamorous parts of being a hero, including ethics, legal responsibilities and liabilities, proper protocol in every emergency situation possible, and so much more. Each of these classes will have a midterm and a final, so do not take them lightly. Then, before lunch you have two hours of physical conditioning, and immediately after lunch is Hero Studies, a four-hour block dedicated to training your quirks. Hero Studies can take various forms, but each will be invaluable to your learning experience. Starting now, you all have officially begun your UA curriculum. I will be mentoring every aspect of your performance, and like I said yesterday, if any of you fail to meet my expectations, I will not hesitate to expel you. I suggest you consider the Apprehension Exam as the exception not the norm."
