Chapter 36 - God's Eye

Kenji looked up to see Uraraka and Ashido standing over them, one of them seemed happy to be there, the other looked like they had been dragged out of bed and doused in ice water.

"Of course," Toga cheered as she gestured to the two available seats, "Sit I just asked Kenji about his fight with your teacher. Seems like a pretty brutal guy."

Ashido smirked, "Oh did he tell you about how badly he lost."

"Ashido," Uraraka shot her friend a warning glare, but her response was dwarfed by Toga who's eyes narrowed into dangerous slits.

"And who might you be?" Toga asked in a deadly calm voice.

Ashido grinned but it was anything but kind, "Mina Ashido, and you?"

"Himiko Toga, and from what I heard everyone in your class lost." Toga responded with ice in her voice as her hands clenched into fists.

"Relax Toga," Kenji interrupted with a smile breaking the tense air, "I'm sure Ashido was just teasing me. No harm done."

"Hmph," Toga pouted and went back to eating her food ignoring Kenji and the others. Uraraka let out a relieved sigh and Ashido only rolled her eyes, but the pair sat down nonetheless.

"But since we're on the topic, what do you guys think about your fight with Aizawa?" Kenji asked, spurring the conversation on.

Uraraka's face fell as she shook her head in dismay, "I couldn't do anything, he was so fast I could barely keep him in my sight. And my quirk wasn't any help of course."

"I was in the same boat," Ashido admitted though she glared at Kenji the entire time as if daring him to comment, "It was impossible to hit him, its like he had eyes in the back of his head or he could see what I was going to do even before I knew it myself."

Uraraka nodded along, "Maybe it's one of the powers he gained after his quirk evolved that and the weird suppression thing he can do."

Kenji shrugged, "I don't know, maybe he's just that much stronger than us, every evolution does enhance your body as well."

"Well yeah no shit, but how many evolutions do you need to move that fast? Three? Five?" Ashido shook her head, "And I bet he was holding back too. Imagine what it would be like going against him at full strength."

"I think the fight would be over before we even realized it," Uraraka muttered to which Ashido and Kenji agreed with slow nods of their heads.

---

After lunch Kenji and Toga went their separate ways, and Kenji found himself back in the training hall with the rest of Class 1-A.

The arena was gone, but the floor had been transformed into the state of the art gym with every machine Kenji could imagine and even more he couldn't begin to guess the purpose of.

"Is everyone here?" Aizawa asked as he stood in front of the class, when no one spoke up he nodded, "Alright then, after your somewhat disappointing spars I've decided that everyone of you needs to become more acquainted with your quirk. If you check your school account you will see a personalized training routine. For the rest of the day you will follow this routine to the letter, if I suspect you're slacking off or resting too long in between sets I will intervene. Am I understood?"

When no one spoke up, Aizawa grunted, "Then get to it and If you have any question then come see me."

Taking out his phone Kenji pulled up his training plan only to frown as he read it over. Looking up from his phone Kenji searched for Aizawa only to find the man staring at him as if he had been waiting for him.

Walking over Kenji held out his phone, "Aizawa sensei I'm confused, this work out plan…well it doesn't have a single exercise on it. How is meditation and yoga of all things supposed to make me stronger?"

Aizawa stared at Kenji for a long moment before replying, "When did you awaken your quirk?"

Startled by the question, it took Kenji a second to respond, "Around three months ago."

"So I would be right to assume up until that point you looked like a completely normal human?" Aizawa asked to which Kenji nodded, "For such a short period of time you've made tremendous progress. But I believe you've largely ignored how awakening your quirk has changed your body and physiology."

"What do you mean?" Kenji asked eagerly, hoping to glean some kernel of truth about any way he could improve.

Aizawa held up a finger, "For starters did you have any idea that your body emits a spatial field that weakens the effect of quirks?"

Kenji blinked, wondering what Aizawa was talking about before realization dawned upon him, "N-no I only felt it when you started to use your quirk. And to be honest I really don't understand how it works."

"Exactly, your quirk is far more nuanced than most of your classmates." Aizawa agreed before holding up a second finger, "The second thing I want to point out is even more important. What was the most dramatic physical change you experienced after awakening your quirk?"

"Um…probably growing a tail, that was pretty shocking," Kenji half joked but his laughter died down as Aizawa's eyes bore into him.

"Tell me when was the last time you used your tail for anything practical?" Aizawa asked not to take his eyes off of Kenji.

Almost instantly Kenji's mind flashed back to the fight with Toga's father, "I-I guess it's been awhile."

Aizawa sighed as he closed his eyes briefly before opening them revealing glowing red pupils, "I'm going to say this once so listen closely. While I'm not a ranked hero I am confident when I say that no one outside of the top three can touch me. That's because of my quirk."

"Is Erasure really that powerful?" Kenji asked his curiosity to get the best of him.

Aizawa smiled, "That's the name of my old quirk, after my most recent evolution It became something different. The name of my new quirk is God's eye."
