-Personal journal, 22nd day, unknown date.
The most jarring part of not knowing of whether you're the only one who knows the big picture or that you're the only one who has gone mad is the uncertainty itself, for that very reason you cannot even blink as death is starring into the face or have a nervous breakdown on the most beautiful day of the year, or the situations be reversed.
Then of course it's one of those days that where you wish that you let that demon dog you found in the forest devour you.
Am I crazy for thinking that or not crazy for thinking that?
Guess we'll find out soon as another day comes.
Ross ran down that unpaved country road as he tried his best to maintained a controlled breathing as he went through several boxing drills. He had been focusing on two things, avoiding everything and anything so as to not get involved in dangerous affairs and building himself up.
Not to fight or to become someone great, but so survive. And it is for that reason that he was doing cardio for stamina and speed to run away and going through boxing drills while doing so.
As he reached the top of a nearby hill he could look down and see the small town where he had woken up/gone mad in. And with it he could contemplate on this new world.
It was the type of world where it looked to be a seemingly similar to Harry Potter/ Beautiful Creatures/Dresden and many other franchises where hiding within it was a secret community of non-human/magical beings.
And looking down on Ross wondered how they managed to stay hidden. He could see small bodied witches teleporting in an out of empty fields where they thought no one could see them.
Other shifted into flying animals or just took flight on their own. Portals popped in and out on the other side of the field, where they thought that no one could see.
How could the world forget about magic?
Was it really that low of an attention span, that all it took was half a hundred meters distance for humanity to ignore it? Or maybe that was just more proof that Ross had lost his mind, and all of this was delusions.
Either way Ross decided to take the road less travelled on his way back, in order to avoid getting involved in who knows what drama or danger the magically inclined got into. Things like that always happened in any book series.
And that was how he walked straight into a group of vampires as they were in the middle........this was actually happening.... a group of vampires who were hanging about in a small clearing as one of the vampire ladies was drinking the blood of a man on the ground.
"Time momentarily stopped for Ross, oh shit why am I narrating now? Damn, maybe I should up my dosage." Ross said as he took a few steps to the towards the neatest three and leaned against it as he cradled his face in his hands. When he slid it down he saw that the group of vampires was now in front of him, surrounding him.
"This is by far the most unique hallucination that I've ever had up until now."
"Hallucination? Dearest Ross? I never knew you had issues, I hope it's not serious." The apparent leader of the group, a girl with long flowing hair and wearing a gala like dress said.
"You know me?"
"Many do, but that comes from you being the only boy at school who doesn't gossip like an old woman, swear like a sailor or whistle at women like a wolf. You have quite the reputation as calm and smart guy." She said.
"Yeah, we'll since I'm alone in the woods and surrounded I don't feel very smart right now." Ross said and this made the group chuckle.
"And yet there's no fear. Why is that? Don't you think that vampires are reason enough to fear." The leader asked.
"Why? You don't kill." Ross said and the group of vampires did a double take.
"H-how did you know that?" The blonde vampire next to the leader said.
"I read long ago that some math expert calculated that if Vampires killed the ones they drank from then humanity would disappear within a year and since human population has been increasing I'm guessing that you don't kill, just get them drunk, drink then hypnotize to forget."
At that the leader gave a smile and light clap of her hands.
"Brava, you're the first one mortal to come to that conclusion so fast. You have the wisdom of an elder." At the woman's words a flood of memories struck Ross as he had to cradle his head again as echoes of a past life, of an older body, a life that had seen enough to temper the fire of youth with the wisdom of age set in.
It was why having lived in that world, the real world, that this encounter did not end up if a fight to the death, but rather a meeting of two cultures, of two peoples.
And with that he also started to remember certain things from this new life. Like how he now remembered the name of the leader, the girl's name was Belladonna Du Bois, someone who was very popular at school along with her clique of girls.
"Bro, you okay?" Ross heard a man's voice from behind and saw that the man who had been fed upon was up on from the ground, rubbing his neck where the fangs whereas the blonde vampire glomped him and embraced his left arm in her own as in an amorous manner as she leaned against him.
"Yeah, just.....honestly I just don't know what it is, just one of those days that you wish you never got out of bed." Ross said towards the boy that was a fellow from school that he recognized as a once top player on the football team namely Michael Aubernaty.
"I hear ya bro. I felt the same way when I was dating my ex and the one before that, heck I use to think that everything was shit, that no matter what I did was not good enough, that everyone was a backstabbing bitch. Then I met my Jessie, and she made me realize that things get better." Michael said and gestured to the vampire that had been drinking his blood earlier.
"You're dating?" Ross asked in surprise.
"Steady on for 3 months now! That reminds me! Happy anniversary babe." Michael said as he gave the vampire called Jessie Brown a silver chain bracelet.
"You seem to be taking this in very good stride, are you from a family that's in the know about the magical world?" Belladonna asked.
"No, I'm just a muggle." Ross replied.
"How are you taking this so calmly?"
"I'm crazy." At that Belladonna's face morphed into a bat like scowl as she pointed a finger with a razor sharp talon right into Ross's face.
"Don't you ever! EVER! Say that again! You came while Jessie was feeding and you didn't scream, or run or attack, or call us freaks or monsters or abominations! You talked to us, you listened, you were calm and logical and all that boring stuff! And that's good, that's how it should be! So don't you ever EVER dare say that you behave like a crazy person! Cause what you just did....it's not crazy...." Belladonna said with a voice that held the undertones of someone who went through a lot because of the circumstances of her birth as Ross looked at her with surprised eyes.
"Sorry about that....I shouldn't have shouted at you." Belladonna said after calming down and morphing back to human form.
"Apology accepted, I'm also sorry for my words, didn't mean to offend you."
"No problem. Anyway it's nice to meet a human that we don't have to glamour into forgetting about this. You're cool to Mickey, but I'm a social girl that likes to make new friends." Belladonna teased and Michael gave a thumbs up.
"Same. Well, I gotta get back and change. See you girls latter, Mickey, Jessie, Belladonna...everyone...bye." Ross said and started jogging again.
"See you later. And please call me Donna."
"Whatever you say Miss Belladonna."
"Ross, toying with a vampire is never good for your health. So do as I say and call me Donna."
"As Miss Belladonna commands." Ross shouted with a smile on his face as Belladonna could not help but chuckle a bit.
And that was how an encounter with vampires ended, nothing like the stories, but weirder than fiction.
"Wait, does that mean that this is all real?" Ross asked himself as he held up his medication and wondered whether this was confirmation.
After all if he was crazy and still seeing all of this despite being on pills, then either the pills where ineffective and this was all delusions or this was all real and he was just someone who noticed the supernatural.
So he decided to go to the post office and mail some pills to a private lab in order to have them tested to see if they were real or just expensive flavorless tick tacks.
All in all things seemed to be going according to his plan, he was getting stronger, managed to keep things peaceful, find answers to who he was and most important of all not become a characters in any of the crazy stories of the numerous supernatural inhabitants.
As he walked down the lane back to his home, he was confident that everything was gonna be fine.
And as he did so passed by the various denizens of Calliope, who were all heroes of their own story, noticed him.
And made plans to investigate this 'strange' denizen of their town and his mystery.
And so Ross instead of getting involved in other's story, in avoiding that has become the protagonist of his own story that will attract the others.
"Oh no." Ross said to himself as he realized and started to notice the various eyes on his person, but pretended that he didn't notice.
As he did so he received a text from Hexen.
"Coffee and sweets so I can complain to you? XOXOXO."
"Oh no." Ross added again as he then felt the wind pick up a bit, that was never a good sign.
Whenever a sudden gush of wind blew it was always a sign of impending chaos.
"Oh no, no, no, no." Ross said as he felt the world crash around him, he felt like everything was horrid.
Teenage drama, the supernatural, impending doom, chaos with you as the epicenter, madness, vampires and dating.
Just another walk down this untroubled lane that Ross found himself on.
The bell rang there and then to signal the start of Highscool.
Just another day in Wonderland.
