Chapter 17 - Underestimating Magic

"Air Cutter!" Xian chanted as the tips of both arms begun to produce a gust of winds and later in second, it became a greenish swirling winds.

Then, she shooted it at the nearest imperfect demon who's in the air and was about to pounce her.

Swoosh!

Blade like waves of winds flew from the tips of Xian's hands towards the nearest demon and without time to dodge, the demon was cutted in half.

But the demon survived because only it's left arm and left side of it's torso was cutted.

Boom!

It's fist crushed where Xian's was standing earlier. By now, the other imperfect demons which is the same as this demon is already in the air and was about to pounce at Xian.

"Tsk, they don't die with that?!" Xian said as her right hand glow in yellow light before it ignites into flames. She chanted: "Flame Retribution!"

Then she raised it in the air and in instance of nano seconds, the flaming hand shoots waves of orange flames towards everywhere and it successfully hits the pouncing demons in the air.

However, the demon didn't budge an inch as they crashed at the ground with their bulging muscles flaming, they rushed at Xian one by one.

"Even that?!" Xian shouted, by this time, the flame in her right hand subdued leaving only the burned part of her long sleeves. It was surprisingly that her right hand was not damaged due to the flames earlier.

*I'll use Aunt's special magic this time!* Xian said in her mind as she imagined a torrential and threatening tornado of winds. And with no time, she placed her palms in the ground and shouting chanted:

"Tornado!"

Then from the dust in the ground, slowly rouse up a gust of winds and in a matter of seconds, it became more fast as it swirls around Xian. From that, appeared slowly a tornado of greenish winds that surrounds her.

"Take this you bastards!" She shouted.

However, to her surprise, the tornado didn't stop from rising at it became massive and tall in a matter of seconds. Debris from the temporary camp and the group's belongings flew in the air wildly as the demons chaotically danced in the air with their bodies being cutted each seconds.

"Sh*t, I can't control it!" Xian said, she underestimated her magic and thought it as her usual aid but to her mistake, she lose control of it and it became huge like this!

*Stop! Stop! Stop!* Xian said in her mind hurriedly but the tornado didn't subdued as it continued to swirl around like a storm.

Then, from the depths of Xian's mind, she remembered something. *That's it! The barrier!*

She instantly vanished from her original spot and appeared outside the massive tornado.

She was right, the bluish barrier stood there and kept the massive tornado inside.

"I can't even control the barrier too." Xian murmured.

From the bush, jumped two figures. It was Joana and Federick, they hurriedly came besides Xian as they glanced at the massive tornado inside the bluish barrier.

"W-what's this?!" Joana confusing asked.

*That's right, I haven't told this two that I can control mana now.* Xian thought and immediately answered. "Those demons came with artifacts, that's two of those if im correct."

Xian instantly made a lie to conserve her secret even for this two.

Joana glanced at Xian then said. "Then, we should get going now, shall we?"

"You two really need to distance from me." Xian said with a concerned tone.

"It's better to travel in groups, and we can defend ourselves, you know." Federick replied.

Xian then glanced at the two and forced a smile, she said. "Then, wait me at the river, I will take care of this instantly."

"You will come, right?" Joana asked.

"Yes, now go." Xian replied.

Then, the two started to back of and fled immediately towards the river at the distance.

"Whew, these magic keeps draining my mana, how should I handle it?" She said with a sigh.

Then, she thought of it stopping and also forced her mana to stop producing. With that, the bluish barrier along side with the massive tornado subdued slowly before fading away.

Xian scratched the back of her hair as she thought how to handle the debris and also the missing belongings.

Xian groaned from anger as she approach the ruined field. Debris of the camp was scattered here and there and Xian can also saw the remnants of the imperfect demons.

"Should I surrender those items since my belongings is already in the silver bracelet?" She asked herself.

She brought her belongings and send them at her mother's field when she was on guard yesterday night. And she also checked it instantly and was pleased that the items safely arrived at the field and was laying there.

"How about the two?... I will ask them later." She said before inspecting every single corpse of the demons she can find and was again, disappointed because there is no trace or whatsoever.

She sighed and said. "Just who in this world."

With that, she vanished from her spot leaving dust at the ground.

...

"We really don't have much important belongings there." Federick said.

"For real?" Xian asked again.

"Well, the most important at the least is the dust of salt." Joana answered this time.

Xian forced a chuckle in her gloomy face. This face still appeared everytime since the death of her mother and was only change when occasion such as demons attacking came by.

She sighed and said. "Im really sorry... You got caught up with my problem."

"Enough with that..." Joana said and ordered. "Bro, hunt us some breakfast and I'll cook."

"Fine fine." Federick said.

Seing the two, Xian felt an unfamiliar feeling that she only discovered only now. It was the feeling being besides her companions and being able to share struggles with them.

Smile appeared in her gloomy face but then she frowned as she heard Joana.

"And you Xian, go bring us some water."

...

Thud!

Rei smashed the wooden table infront of her in anger as she asked. "Who's mage is it?"

"I-Im not in the scene so I don't know master." The hooded man said in fear. Then, he continued. "According to analysis, a huge barrier was set up and inside of it is also another huge tornado."

*To have that magic power, it has to be atleast a yellow core... Who's backing her now?!" Rei thought as she gritted her teeth.

After a while, she smiled and said to the hooded man. "Leave this for now."

The hooded man stood up and bowed 90 degrees and said. "Yes, master!"

Then, he left the room leaving Rei standing besides the broken table. Her mouth was still smiling as she said to herself. "I'll take the bet, either she knew the assailant already or she doesn't have an idea."

"She will eventually come for me, asking for help."

...

"Welcome back, Abigail." Reine said to the lady standing at the entrance of her room.

The lady was standing tall as three meters with tanned skin. She wore a white and black maid outfit that skirt reaches until her toes and she wore a black sandals. At her black hair which cascaded freely until her waist placed a white ribbon, her bangs reaches until her eyelashes hiding her forehead.

Abigail bowed at her master and replied. "Yes, master."

"So, how's the trip?" Reine asked while sitting at her bed which sheets is colored in blue.

By now, Abigail was standing infront of her master and before answering, she bent her body and sat down infront of Reine giving them equal heights. Then, she answered. "It was great master, thanks for allowing to visit my family."

"It's nothing, you should have your own time too." Reine replied while smiling, her beaming smile gave Abigail a peaceful mind.

Looking at her master, Abigail informed. "Master, I received a news that the magic academy will open again soon."

"Mother said the same, shall we enroll now?" Reine replied.

"Few students are enrolling today, the news has been leaked only to higher nobles." Abigail informed and continued. "It's the best time to enroll master."

"Sure, prepare me a dress then." Reine ordered.

Abigail stood up and begun to check the cabinet storing her master's clothes.

*In two months from now, the academy will open again and I will become a junior of the school, I wonder who will be my mentor.* Reine thought and by now, she was being dressed by her half giant maid.

...

The two ladies arrived at the academy safely with a horse carriage owned by the family.

The academy is huge with buildings standing upto five stories tall, the academy is located just besides the center of the Neap and it's surroundings is made out of tall woods called Bangkae tree.

The two walked side by side towards the entrance as Abigail ensure the safety of her master, with fist clenching tight and an eyes that was sharp as blade, Abigail walked besides her master.

Inside the actual main building of the school where there is a counter at the center front of the building, the two went there and Reine immediately enrolled the two of them.

"What's your name lady?" The counter assistant which is a man in late 30s with red vest asked Reine.

"Reine Fryt." Reine replied immediately.

"Oh, you're from the household of Fryt, im honored to meet one." The man said as she wrote down the name in a certain paper.

"You flattered me." Reine replied with a smile.

After a while of asking questions here and then, the man said finnaly. "Meet your mentor at the 007 room upstairs please, she happened to be there."

Then, he added immediately after forgetting. "Oh, her name is Tessia Satkurn."

"Thanks for the time." Reine said as she bowed slightly.

The man smiled as Reine walked away towards the left where there is a stairs leading to the second floor along side her maid which is also enrolled earlier.

Abigail enrolled the same time as her with different assistant but she insisted to have the same mentor and the assistant said that asking the mentor itself might help.

Walking at the hallway, different numbers written in white plates at each door of rooms occupied the silent and lamp lighten hallway.

The two stopped at one room which is plated with number 007. Knocking the door, Abigail stood besides Reine as they wait for an answer.

Not a couple seconds ago, a lady's voice came inside and said. "Coming!"

Click!

The door opened and stood inside eho opened the door is a lady standing upto two meter tall, her dark brown hair cascaded until her breast as her pale skin can compare with that of Reine.

She wore a light gray vest with white t-shirt alongside side with a trousers and a black shoes. She seems more a man in dressing than a woman.

"You must be my junior... Juniors?" Tessia said with confused tone at the end.

"Yes senior!" Reine replied with a beaming smile.

*At first glance, she is a cheerful girl and at her back is a massive lady, sheesh.* Tessia sized up Abigail and said. "Are you also my junior?"

"Please, take me as your junior too!" Abigail pleased.

"S-sure... Come in for now." Tessia replied as she gestured to come inside.

"Thanks for having us!" Reine said again with a beaming smile.
