Caught In The Shadows

 I have walked this shadowy forest for many years, but as the day turned into night, I have never walked this path in the nighttime. I am startled as something seems amiss and something is not okay. The shadows dance differently as the sun sets as I walk further into the trees. 

 I continue to walk where I usually meet mother nature's prized possession, the trees that align the forest glisten under the moonlight. The stars sparkle dancing along the tree line. I look up and smile as I have always been close to nature. It's mid-June and the nighttime weather is warm and there is a slight breeze blowing through. I hear the owls hoot throughout the trees and the insects that buzz in the night. I continue to walk walking up to a cabin that my mother owned. I haven't been here in a long time, not since she passed on. I feel bad for never coming here, but it's time to visit. 

 I reach the cabin and I sense that there are eyes among the trees, and I turned and scanned the tree line, but I never seen anything that stood out, but the shadowy feeling never went away as I enter my mother's cabin.
