Chapter 5 - Ji-woo meets the dead

Master Chang took a deep breath, steeling himself for what he was about to reveal. "The outlanders are not just after our crops and our harvests," he explained. "They seek something far more precious—our very way of life."

Ji-Woo's heart skipped a beat at the old man's words, his mind racing with possibilities. "But why?" he asked, his voice tinged with disbelief.

"Power, greed, control," Master Chang replied, his voice heavy with sorrow. "They will stop at nothing to bend us to their will, to crush our spirits and break our resolve."

As Ji-Woo listened to the old man's words, a sense of righteous anger boiled up within him, fueling his determination to stand up to the outlanders and protect the village at all costs. He knew now that he couldn't turn a blind eye to the injustice that surrounded him—he had to take action, to fight back against the forces of darkness that threatened to engulf them all.

But before Ji-Woo could voice his resolve, a deafening roar shattered the stillness of the night, followed by the sound of pounding hooves and clashing steel. The outlanders had come, their ranks swelling like a tidal wave as they descended upon the village with all the fury of a storm unleashed.

Ji-Woo's heart pounded in his chest as he watched the chaos unfold before him, his mind racing with fear and uncertainty. But as he glanced at Master Chang, he saw a steely resolve in the old man's eyes—a determination to stand firm against the tide of darkness that threatened to engulf them.

"Thank you, Master Chang," Ji-Woo said, his voice filled with gratitude. "For everything."

But as he turned to leave, a glint of light caught his eye—a flash of silver amidst the chaos. Ji-Woo's heart skipped a beat as he realized what he was seeing—the exact two coins that had been given to him by the spirit, floating in the air before him.

"How... how did you get those?" Ji-Woo asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

Master Chang's smile widened as he stretched out his hands, controlling the two coins with a flick of his fingers. They danced in the air before him, their surfaces gleaming in the faint light of the moon.

"I can teach you to do that, if you're willing to learn," Master Chang said, his voice filled with pride.

Ji-Woo stared at the old man in disbelief, his mind reeling with the implications of what he had just witnessed. Who was this mysterious figure, who possessed such incredible power and knowledge?

"Who are you, Master Chang?" Ji-Woo asked, his voice filled with awe.

The old man's smile faded, replaced by a look of quiet determination. "I am your grandfather, Ji-Woo," he replied, his voice filled with pride. "And together, we will stop the outlanders, once and for all."

As the dawn broke over the village, Ji-Woo's heart pounded with anticipation. He couldn't wait to begin his training with Master Chang, eager to learn the secrets of the ancient martial arts and harness the power that lay dormant within him.

Bounding out of bed with a newfound sense of purpose, Ji-Woo hurried to find his grandfather, his mind buzzing with excitement. He found Master Chang in the courtyard, his movements slow and deliberate as he practiced his forms in the early morning light.

"Grandfather!" Ji-Woo exclaimed, his voice filled with enthusiasm. "I'm ready to begin my training. When do we start?"

Master Chang smiled warmly at his grandson, his eyes twinkling with pride. "Patience, Ji-Woo," he said, his voice calm and reassuring. "All things in their own time. We will begin when you are truly ready."

Ji-Woo nodded eagerly, trying to contain his excitement. He knew that mastering the ancient martial arts would not be easy, but he was determined to give it his all.

As the day wore on, Ji-Woo found himself consumed with thoughts of Lady Ki. He couldn't shake the memory of their encounter beneath the tree, her beauty and grace etched into his mind like a painting on canvas.

Unable to contain his curiosity any longer, Ji-Woo approached his grandfather with a question burning on his lips. "Grandfather," he began tentatively, "what can you tell me about Lady Ki?"

But to Ji-Woo's surprise, Master Chang's expression darkened, his features clouded with a shadow of sadness. "Lady Ki is not someone you should concern yourself with," he said, his voice tinged with warning. "She is... not what she seems."

Ji-Woo frowned in confusion, unable to understand his grandfather's cryptic words. "But why?" he pressed, his curiosity piqued. "What do you mean?"

But before Master Chang could respond, Ji-Woo's attention was drawn to a commotion in the village square. Pushing his way through the crowd, Ji-Woo's eyes widened in surprise as he caught sight of Lady Ki standing beneath the very tree where they had first met.

"You're waiting for me," Ji-Woo said, his voice filled with astonishment.

Lady Ki turned to face him, a mischievous smile playing at the corners of her lips. "No, I'm not," she replied coyly, her eyes sparkling with amusement.

Ji-Woo felt his heart skip a beat at the sight of her, his pulse quickening with each step he took toward her. There was something about Lady Ki that drew him in, something mysterious and alluring that he couldn't quite put into words.

As he approached her, Ji-Woo found himself captivated by the way the sunlight danced in her hair, the way her laughter echoed like music in the air. In that moment, he knew that he was falling for her, falling hard and fast with no hope of turning back.

But as Ji-Woo reached out to take her hand, a voice echoed in his mind—a voice that sounded strangely familiar, yet tinged with warning.

"Beware, Ji-Woo," the voice whispered, its words echoing like a distant memory. "Beware the dangers that lie ahead, for not all is as it seems."

Ji-Woo shook his head, trying to shake off the feeling of unease that gripped him like a vice. He knew that he had to be cautious, that there were secrets lurking beneath the surface of the village that he had yet to uncover.

But for now, all he could think about was the beautiful woman standing before him, her eyes sparkling with mischief and intrigue. And as he took her hand in his, Ji-Woo knew that he was in for the adventure of a lifetime.
