The reason for this was because, when their wealthy grandmother sent them back to university, Carminda chose to tour India instead.
So she dropped out of college after the first two months of her honours degree. Shannon went on to study towards an honours degree in clinical Psychology at the University of London.
Hence they developed different personalities, professionally.
For a period of six weeks, Blake lounged around home, planning to get into his books, but never managing to make the time.
He wondered whether he would ever return to University and complete his degree.
Having enough money at his disposal, was a situation which caused him to view his studies in a different light. He did not really need the degree anymore, Blake thought.
Eventually, he would make good investments into the Real Estate development market. Then he would watch his daughter grow up. Laura was especially absorbed in her work, but then (he realized), she has been working hard since before they got married.
He was just amazingly relieved that their financial troubles were a thing of the past and that everyone had to learn to show him some respect from now on.
Blake knew, at the back of his mind, that at some time in the future, Rene might have attempted to take over his family and thereby his very reason for living. So he did not really trust Rene, even though he never allowed Laura to see that he was feeling anxious.
On the other hand, Laura was trying very hard to hide her own feelings of anxiety from Blake. Ever since she had returned from Hollywood she had the strange sensation that someone was following her, wherever she went.
She also received a number of silent phone calls which subsided after Blake returned. So, that meant that the person who made the calls was no stranger to her household activities. They also therefore knew her residential address.
Laura did not know whether she should let her agent, Errol know about this situation. The chances were very good that the situation was work-related.
Certain models did sometimes suffer the inconvenience of being stalked.
She decided to keep an extra observant eye over Monique. It would be easy for anyone to abduct her now that she could walk and was so easily enticed by anyone who had sweets in their hands.

In the sixth week since his return from London, Blake received a phone-call from Shannon. She asked him to come and see her at her home.
When he arrived there he had already carefully determined in his mind, that he would one day give her a timely notice of his intention to seek an alternative form of professional occupation. At least a year in advance.
His plans were altered though, when Shannon informed him about the fact that she thought his life to be in danger. She had received threats regarding him.
Shannon questioned him carefully about all the details concerning his recent trip. She wanted to know if anything unusual had happened, or if there was anything that he had forgotten to do. Perhaps he had forgotten some of the precautions he had to take.
She asked if there was any news he had forgotten to pass on to her. It was not much use because―as usual―the moment Blake realized that he might have an insurmountable set of challenges facing him, his mind blanked out and he was beyond any form of creative reasoning.
So, Blake had no bright ideas which might have helped to save him from this difficult situation.
As he drove away from Shannon's premises Blake did observe the fact that her sister was psychic and as such, she could possibly soon find out who was behind the threats.
Then all that remained was for Carminda to get her bodyguards and her own private detective to sort out the matter.
There was something which Blake would have to do on his own though. He did realize that he was in fact, rather powerless in relation to Shannon.
Later that night, after almost twenty years since he had last attended Sunday school, Blake decided to pray for his safety.
Alone in the bedroom, he prayed that the God who watched over his family should deliver him from his present predicament, before everything got out of hand.
Strangely, he experienced a definite sense of peace afterwards. He lay down on the bed and drifted off to sleep.

Jared was heartily sick of farm life. According to what he has learned when Blake occasionally phoned him, he Jared, has been really foolish to have copped out of an opportunity of a lifetime. He could also have struck instant success status, as Blake apparently has done.
Instead he was here observing his quaint uncle and beginning to feel as if his life would also inevitably take on a quality of distinct strangeness. As a result, people would gradually begin to avoid him and lock him out of their lives, as if he were some kind of disturbing dream.
He needed a job back in the city. Even a sales job would do. He just needed something to wipe the cobwebs out of his mind. At least, that's what sounded right to him.
So, early one Tuesday morning, Jared jumped into the farm assistant's car and took a lift with him to Lynnwood, Pretoria. He did not take the time to explain anything to his uncle, who would only devise a plan for him to remain on the farm. Jared only took his wallet with him.
When he arrived at home he found that his parents were not in. So this meant that he would have to wait for them to return from wherever they had gone to and then explain the reasons for his behaviour.
He decided to swim in the pool and then prepare himself a homemade vegetable quiche, which was his personal recipe. He had not found the opportunity to make one during the long months of his stay on the farm.
