Chapter 6 - A Gift for Dad

Ruan Shu obediently nodded and replied softly.

"I know, will Dad still come back today?"

The steward jokingly asked, "Miss, aren't you afraid of the master?" Many children would cry when they saw him.

Ruan Shu shook her head quickly and said softly, "Dad isn't scary." "He just looks fierce, but he's actually very nice."

The steward chuckled. "I've never heard anyone say that the master is nice."

This time, when Ruan Xiao left, he did not return until late at night.

Ruan Shu sat on the sofa, watching the most popular interstellar cartoon on the projector in front of her. She usually loved watching it, but today, her attention kept drifting outside, as if she were expecting something.

"Miss, it's time to go to bed." "Staying up late is not good for your health," the steward reminded her.

Ruan Shu obediently curled up on the sofa, her fair and cute little feet looking particularly delicate and lovely. Her toes resembled pearls with a faint pink hue, enhancing their charm.

She seemed like a fragile porcelain doll, delicate and beautiful, yet seemingly easy to break.

In the quiet room, the little girl, with her fair complexion reflecting the light, looked ethereal yet endearing.

"Dad, when will you come back?" She asked softly, looking up at the steward.

The steward sighed and replied, "The master is very busy. He might not come back tonight."

Ruan Shu let out a disappointed sigh. She put on her fluffy slippers and drooped her head, following the steward upstairs.

She quietly followed the steward, resembling an abandoned little kitten—pitiful and helpless.

The steward sighed inwardly. The child lacked love, but in the Ruan family, this might not be a good thing.

The Ruan family was very indifferent when it came to showing family affection.

After saying goodnight to the steward, Ruan Shu lay quietly on her beautiful little bed.

She held a pair of gloves that she had knitted with black yarn after consulting the steward. It was very fine yarn, and it had taken her several days to complete.

Initially, she had planned to give it to her father, but it appeared that he would not be returning today.

Lying in the warm bed, Ruan Shu only showed a fluffy little head outside the covers. Her fair skin still looked a bit sickly pale and overly transparent.

Her curly eyelashes were dark and thick, resembling a delicate black fan, which made her eye sockets appear deeper and more attractive.

Just as she was about to fall asleep, she suddenly heard the sound of an engine outside.

The sound wasn't very loud, but it woke her up. She rubbed her eyes and yawned, then suddenly stopped and looked wide-eyed.

She rubbed her eyes again and quickly got out of bed, not even bothering to put on her shoes.

Upon returning home, Ruan Xiao felt a chill. He took off his coat, hung it on the rack, and then turned on the light. As he did so, he heard the sound of small footsteps coming from upstairs.

He looked up and saw a small figure standing at the top of the stairs, wearing pajamas and holding a pair of gloves.

"Why aren't you wearing shoes?" Ruan Xiao asked, looking at her bare feet.

It was cold on the floor, and her snow-white body looked very fragile. He didn't want her to catch a cold.

He thought to himself as he picked up the small bundle that was barely as tall as his legs.

With one arm holding the incredibly soft child, Ruan Xiao's muscles felt a bit stiff.

This was the first time he had ever held a child. He had never held any of his three sons from birth to adulthood.

Ruan Shu's body also felt stiff. In her memory, whether in her past life or now, this was the first time she had been held by her father.

Although her father gave off a cold and distant feeling, his arms were very strong, and his broad shoulders gave her a sense of security.

Ruan Shu cautiously approached her father, studying his sharply defined profile, and then moved a little closer.

She almost leaned on her father's shoulder as he carried her upstairs, and by the time they reached the door of her room, she was already leaning on him.

"Go to bed on your own and don't come out," Ruan Xiao said in a cold and stiff tone as he put her down. He then turned and left without any hesitation.

Little Ruan Shu stood at the door, her small, white hands clutching the door frame as she watched him leave. She felt a mixture of satisfaction and disappointment.

She was happy that her father had held her, but she was disappointed that he had left so quickly. She wanted to spend more time with him.

But more than anything, she was happy. She was so excited that she couldn't sleep. She bounced on the soft bed, her face displaying a silent, big smile. She was so excited that she even rolled around on the bed several times before calming down.

"Dad said to go to bed early and get up early to have breakfast with him," she murmured softly. Then she crawled under the covers, revealing only a fluffy little head, and closed her eyes to sleep.

She didn't know what she had dreamed about, but she woke up feeling very happy. The smile on her face never faded.

Perhaps it was because she had been looking forward to having breakfast with her father. Ruan Shu woke up very early the next day.

Yawning, she got out of bed, changed her clothes, and neatly folded the bedclothes. She now lived in a room with a beautiful bed, clean bedding, and a large wardrobe full of her clothes.
