But my smile fades as the system screen appears with the countdown message: [The countdown has begun. You have 9 months left to decide whether you will stay in this world or return to your own, as the story will conclude at that time.]
I can't shake the unease that settles in my stomach every time I see that message. What will happen when the countdown ends? Will I die, or will it be Raven? The thought of losing her terrifies me. In the book, both Jade and Raven die, and it worries me to think that our story might end the same way.
My thoughts are interrupted as I feel something brush against my face. I turn to see Raven's hand reaching out to me, her eyes still closed in sleep. She must have sensed my distress and reached out to comfort me even in her sleep.
