It was a cold winter night in the city of Shibuya. The snow that fell danced gracefully through the calm winds on its way down to the ground.
It was very late, almost nobody was walking among the city streets except a few. Despite the cold it was a beautiful night nevertheless, it was calm and pleasant one could meditate in the winter atmosphere.
However there was a more dramatic event going on in the city.
Standing on top of a high building several stories up, stood a young lad in his early 20's.
His name is Japheth. He was an overseas student from Canada who'd traveled abroad to study. He had only spent a few months in Shibuya but extremely homesick and depressed Japheth found himself in a dark place.
He was consumed by his schooling having being dropped by his scholarship after flunking a midterm exam, once news reached back home his family disowned him and cut of his access to money.
With both his schooling down the drain, family ties cut loose, and stranded in a foreign land the young man couldn't take it anymore.
"Fuck, why?" He cried out looking up into the dark start night.
A strike of cold wind hit his face, the salty tears from his eyes quickly began to frost over from the cold.
He moved closer to the edge of the building, this is where he would jump.
Looking down upon the streets below he took a huge gulp. His heart raced and boomed in his chest, the moment he'd been working himself up for was now.
Tragic really.
Japheth took a final sip of the vodka bottle he had with him, the alcohol serving as the liquid courage he needed to jump.
And without a second thought Japheth thrown his body weight forward making a nose dive for the pavement bellow.
He closed his eyes daring to not witness himself fall to his death. But the moment he leapt a small ounce of regret fell over him. An instinctive reaction to a human being's will to cling to life.
It was too late, he already had lost his footing. Upon falling flashes of his brief life on earth came to him, memories of his family, friends flooded his mind.
"Why would they do that to me? I thought…"
Wallowing in his own thoughts a distinct voice sounded in his head.
"Hey you!" The voice said.
"Huh? What was that?" Japheth answered.
"Why did you kill yourself little soul, I've always found it strange when souls want to jump to their deaths."
Japheth was confused, did he already die?
"Who are you?"
"So many questions already, you've only been dead for a few minutes. But I am God or at least one of them. Why'd you kill yourself Japheth?"
"God? Maybe I am dead" Japheth thought. He tested this theory by trying to open his eyes but he couldn't it was only a black space he saw and the echoing voice of God.
"My life is shit, my family abandoned me, I lost my scholarship, and I was stuck in a land that was not mine."
"Hahaha, that seems odd reason to kill yourself, your so young. But I guess a soul does what a soul wants. Did you not have goals?"
Japheth felt a small bit of shame as God mocked his reason for taking his own life over a few minor setbacks. In retrospect God had a point but in times of turmoil it's hard to see the light when cloaked in darkness.
"Well of course I had goals! I was going to become a zoologist and start my own animal sanctuary. But I guess that's all out the window now."
"Zoologist huh? Well you are right all those are no good now, unless…you want another shot."
"Another shot? What do you mean."
"Another shot at life, another chance to make those dreams come true, that is if your not going to kill yourself again."
Japheth felt a glimpse of hope, another chance at life could allow him to complete his goals. Intrigued by Gods offer Japheth wasted no time in entertaining the idea.
"A second chance doesn't sound so bad, but why? Why me?"
"I don't know? Why not you? After all I do have a bet to furfill. And I'm not the one who likes to lose."
"A bet? God gambles?"
"Hahaha! It's not gambling it's a friendly wager. We're trying to see how many worlds we can conquer before the reset happens."
"Conquer? Aren't you God. Didn't you create everything?"
"Silly soul, you have no idea of the universes history. I'm not that kinda God, the guy who created everything is called the The Programmer. He is in charge of creating everything in existence, but I've never met him. I'm just a soul like youx which exists in a different plain of reality. Anyways. Are you up for it."
Japheth took in the information which had been given to him and pondered. It was a lot to take in, most of it didn't make sense. For all he knew this God could be the devil, but the way he described everything, made it seem truthful.
"Well I guess I don't have anything else better to do besides go to heaven…or hell. So yes, I'll take you up on your offer. I want a second chance."
"Perfect! That's the spirit. Don't worry this will be fun for you. You just gotta promise not to kill yourself, alright! Now I will be sending your soul to the world of Yonder, where you'll be tasked with conquering the world in my name. And fulfilling that dream of yours. Once you complete that you'll report back to me and we'll go from there."
" …sounds good to me."
" Cool, I'll leave you with gift which is my mark. A little boost to push you along. Once I transport you into the world once more call upon the name Seda. From there you'll figure it out. Alrighty toodles… My prophet"
A loud snap came and a burst of light flashed in the darkness. Japheth had now been transported to Yonder. What in the world lies ahead.
