In the course of two days our village has battled threats on the level of annihilation and in this time of peril we had been promised aid from the wizard association.
We'd thought nothing of it but I had my suspensions that the cause of these events was connected to the association and granddad confirmed it when he confronted the wizards who were seated before us.
"What does the wizard association have to say to justify themselves" he asked, looking them in the eyes.
And to that the male wizard who introduced himself as the high wizard of the crimson star, Rath gave out a sealed association letter.
There was no use guessing that it was an apology letter. After all what else could it be?
[To the people of Whitehold],
The Wizard Association, offer our sincerest apologies for our failure to respond to your aid in your time of need. We are deeply regretful that our inaction during this disaster level event led to harm and suffering to your people.
…
The letter read on.
"Enough with the theatrics. I demand an answer. What happened before and after Arch wizard Legilis' defeat of Arshüdehem?" granddad demanded, his aura rising.
"I see. Retirement hasn't dulled your senses" The high wizard Rath smirked.
"But you're right. The death of Arshüdehem was sanctioned from on high. Don't ask me by who because I don't have that information. However I do know the battle emerging here was an accident and for that unforeseen accident, the wizard association sincerely apologizes" he paused and pulled out another letter which he handed over to granddad.
"From the grand wizard himself. To you the north wind, Grandine"
I couldn't see what was written in the letter but it's content seemed to calm Granddad. Once he was done reading he peeled his eyes away from the letter and gave mom and dad a nod.
"This is my son in law, the chief of this village and his wife, my daughter Gwen with their son, my grandson, they will be privy to this conversation" he said and relaxed his aura.
"We don't see a problem with it if that's how you want it. You have the trust of the grand wizard" the wizard in green, replied opening her eyes for the first time. Her name, Honoria.
She carried with her a presence that left one staring.
"I have here a brief explanation of why the association delayed in coming to our aid. What exactly is the ripple?" granddad asked.
"On the night of Arshüdehem's defeat. An event occurred, one we have come to understand as a distortion to the world's magic factor. All magic born felt it's effect as a ripple. As we speak the event is a mystery to us." the wizard paused and then surveyed the room before continuing.
"but suffice to say, the world may have changed" she added.
It took a minute before anyone said a thing.
Exactly what did her words mean, "the world may have changed".
"forgive me for asking but what exactly do you mean?" Dad was the one to ask. To which the wizard Honoria replied.
"An up surge of monsters around the kingdom and other regions. An emergence of events magical in nature and many other mysterious happenings. The wizard association for it's best was left lacking in wizards and resources resulting in our late arrival."
"I see" was granddad's response as he fell silent into thought.
"What I want to know is, what happened after Arshüdehem's defeat? By all accounts this village should be in ruins but here you are" the wizard Rath asked, his eyes suspiciously fixed on us.
It took a moment before he received an answer.
Dad was about to give an account of what happened but granddad interrupted him and retold the tale. He glossed over some details and left others out like the magic storm and how the orc shaman Baldur was defeated. In all he made it out like we survived by pure luck and nothing else.
"Tough break huh. We do apologize again for our lateness"
"But we did come along with food and resources. We hoped to find survivors and we are glad it's the entire village" The high wizard Honoria said and pulled a pouch from her robe. It looked plain but I sensed a unique form of magic on it. She handed it over to Dad who thanked her in turn.
"We will like to help out with the rebuilding if you people don't mind. We came to aid in however way we can" she added.
Dad accepted their help and granddad offered to show them around the village. With that the wizard association officially came to our aid.
A lot was learnt in the meeting and I realized once again how lacking I was in this new world.
It was a world of magic and unknown forces. A universe so vast in mystery and wonder that I found myself wanting the more I discovered. I have no doubt that this world, this life will be fulfilling in everywhere lacking for me. And that many encounters awaited me but for now, I am going to learn magic and enjoy every moment of this new life.
My name is Albeom Famaul and this is how my life began in this other world.
