Chapter 1 - Kind of a Cliche

It was the year 2050 when everything changed. The universe trembled, causing the galaxies in the vast expanse of space to shift closer together, allowing different energies to flood through.

One such energy found its way to the Milky Way, called Mana. This energy didn't seem harmful to Earth, in fact it was beneficial. Its presence in the environment proved to improve the bodies of humans, and scientists found a way to harness mana and turn it into energy for technological advancements.

However, the true power of mana manifested in the next generation, where those that turned 15 years old would randomly awaken, being able to control mana and gain abilities based on the affinity they had, such as fire, water, and air.

Thus, Wizards were born. Governments from all over the world immediately implemented them into their armies, and the world was at the brink of war when the aliens arrived. A spaceship had landed on Earth, and the leaders of the world made contact with aliens for the first time.

As the galaxies were brought closer together, it became easier for creatures and different species to explore the universe, and that specific species had found its way to Earth. The unknown species were kind enough to gift Earth with advanced technology that massively changed the planet, turning into an advanced utopia within a decade.

However, as technology advanced, countries had found a way to create new weapons of war. Mechas. Giant controllable robots that could cause mass destruction with the weapons attached to them. Soon, Earth became too small to hold all that power, and the world was at war.

Wizards and Mechas belonging to different countries and governments fought, and after a war that spanned nearly a century, Earth was all but destroyed, with massive chunks of the planet drifting into space.

The survivors decided that the feud was no longer worth it, and changed everything. They split into different factions, abandoned the history and ideals of Earth, and together the factions formed the United Humanity Federation, growing larger and larger until they gained full control over the Milky Way.

As the years passed, the UHF made more contact with other galaxies, exploring the universe while making sure their part of it was safe. They turned what was left of the Earth into a gigantic space colony that became larger than the planet originally was, and dubbed it New Earth. It housed all the major factions and the wealthy and powerful, while the UHF created subsidiary space stations and spread them all throughout the Milky Way.

Millenia passed, and the world developed, technologically growing greater and greater, until it became on par with magic itself. The rest of the universe changed as well, with the UHF making alliances and enemies throughout other galaxies.

Alas, the story begins in one of the subsidiary space colonies within the Milky Way, one that was the size of a few continents, yet still unimportant in the bigger picture. It was called Old Orion.

******

"Get back here!"

Somewhere in Old Orion, within the poorest sector in the space colony, a boy was running like hell, dodging past people and jumping over trash and other obstacles as he was chased by three men wearing fancy white and blue long coats.

The boy had black hair, red eyes, and a grin on his face as he ran. Jamie's heart was pounding, but he liked it. Now, how exactly did he get in this situation?

Well, Jamie had just been walking around the slum, looking for money, as usual. He was just casually strolling when he had been stopped by three of Dynamos' finest, as usual. They began to harass him and accuse him of being up to no good, as usual.

Dynamos was what passed as the law in the slums of Old Orion. They were a corrupt faction very, very distantly related to the UHF, since they were owned by a group that was owned by another group and on and on and on, where one of New Earth's major factions owned all of those groups.

They were small enough to be ignored by any honest part of the UHF, so they did what they wanted. Anyway, as he was accosted by the three men, Jamie did what any sensible person scared of the police would do.

He spat in the first guy's face, kicked the second guy in the balls, and told the third guy what he did to his mom last night. Unfortunately, they didn't really appreciate that, and now Jamie was doing his best to avoid getting beat up.

"You can't go on forever, you little shit!"

Jamie ignored their taunts, leaping over a trash can before sprinting down a random street, the three men losing sight of him.

"I think I lost them."

Jamie grinned and looked behind him, colliding with a dirt wall in front of him. He landed on his butt, rubbing his head.

"Ouch! Wait, that definitely wasn't there 5 seconds ago…"

"Got you!"

"Oh no…"

The wall of dirt crumbled apart, revealing one of the cops behind it.

"Earth Wizard? You gotta be kidding me…"

"Nope. Hope you're ready for this."

As Jamie groaned in frustration, the other two cops arrived behind him, looking happy to finally get to the boy.

"Listen, fellas," Jamie stood up and reached out to the cops. "Is it too late for the four of us to just kiss and make up?"

He smiled at them, making a thumbs up before the Earth Wizard punched him across the face, knocking him out.

******

"Hahaha!"

"Yeah, hit him harder!"

"Oof!"

Jamie was now on the edge of the slum, dragged there by his cop buddies who were beating the absolute stuffing out of him. He was punched and kicked against a massive steel wall that bordered the whole slum, as behind it was just land and forest where monsters lurked, having nested there and grew during the early days of Old Orion.

The cops beat Jamie a little more before one of them pulled out a pistol. Seeing the gun, Jamie panicked, sticking his hands out.

"Hold on! I was just joking when I said that stuff about your mom, man!"

"Shut up!"

The cop with the gun barked, kicking Jamie. One of the other cops walked over to the massive wall, opening a door. He went over to Jamie and dragged him to the opening, shoving him through it.

Jamie tumbled down a ramp that signified he was now outside the slum. He quickly got to his feet and called out to the cops.

"Wait! You guys are just going to leave me out here? I barely did anything!"

"We have a quota we need to fill to get our bonuses!" The one with the gun yelled back, aiming it at Jamie, who flinched. "You were a drug dealer that, when confronted, decided to run away from the safety of the city!"

"C'mon, I'll die out here!"

The cop laughed for a moment before his face hardened.

"I said you ran AWAY!"

He fired the gun at Jamie, bright energy blasts rapidly approaching the boy. Jamie immediately turned and ran, leaping into a large ditch for cover. While hiding, he heard some more laughter and the sound of a metal door being shut.

Peeking out, Jamie's worst fear was confirmed. He had been locked out of the slum. He groaned as he leaned into the dirt, slamming his fist on the ground next to him in frustration.

"Argh!"

Hitting something solid, Jamie grunted in pain while he massaged his hand. After the pain faded, Jamie turned to look at what was buried in the dirt that he had hit. He brushed a bit of dirt aside before seeing some metal that had a word etched into it.

"Prime?"

The moment Jamie read it aloud, whatever was beneath the dirt moved, pulling itself out of the ground.

"Woah!"

Jamie moved backwards, looking up in awe as he realized what the thing was. In front of him was a very old, very dirty MECHA. He couldn't see the lower half, but the top half was already as big as him!

It was humanoid shaped, with mostly round parts that revealed no weapons. It had a fin on the top of the head as well as two red eye lenses that were faded. The back had thrusters attached, and in the center of its chest was a red core that began to hum and glow.

"What are you doing out here?" In awe, Jamie slowly reached out to touch it. He'd seen the grunt mechas that Dynamos had, and he had heard of their strength. If he could somehow get this one to work… "Maybe you can help me get back…"

Jamie touched the chest of the mecha before quickly pulling his arm away, feeling like he'd been shocked by electricity.

"What the - AAAAHHH!"

Jamie collapsed, screaming in pain as his head suddenly felt like it was tearing apart. For a few minutes, Jamie went through the worst pain he had ever felt in his life. It was taking all he had not to pass out.

Finally, the pain subsided, and Jamie could think straight again. As he got to his feet, the mecha also moved as the lenses and power lines connected throughout it began to glow red. It mimicked Jamie, who stared at it in shock.

Now that the mecha was on its feet, Jamie could see how tall it really was. It wasn't as big as most mechs he'd seen or heard about, but this one was definitely at least 2 meters tall.

Jamie was still admiring the mecha in confusion when a red panel with white text appeared in front of his eyes.

[You are now the Pilot.]

[Thank you for choosing Prime.]

[What would you like to name your Mecha?]

"..."

"Oh. My. God."
