Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Mera

Aegon had always been adaptable and efficient in handling tasks.

After Irene's reminder, Aegon hurried to Irene's study, where he began to comprehend and familiarize himself with this world.

Books were the most straightforward way to gain knowledge and insight.

He started with magic. Magicians could generally be divided into two categories: holders and abilities.

Holders relied on magical props for combat, while abilities utilized their own magical power. Dragon-slaying magic fell under the abilities category.

Magic was further divided into attack, defense, and auxiliary types. August's ancient script magic belonged to the auxiliary category. Additionally, there were various environment-based magic formations, such as concealment and automatic defense.

Magic in Earthland was continuously evolving and diversifying. Each continent delved into magic research, resulting in multiple branches for each type of magic, leading to an ever-expanding array of magical varieties.

There weren't overly detailed classifications for magic levels, generally categorized into ordinary, super, and forbidden magic. Within ordinary magic, there were also lost and ancient magic due to missing records or stringent learning conditions, referred to as lost magic.

...

"Eastern continent Isvan western continent Alakitasia, so, Ishgar is situated between these two continents, known as the central continent?" Aegon muttered to himself.

Knock knock—the sound of knocking interrupted Aegon's thoughts.

"Come in," he said without looking up, engrossed in his reading.

The door opened, and a fragrance, distinct from Irene, Hein, and Juliet, wafted in. The voice was deep and not particularly melodious.

She bowed respectfully, her head lowered. "Master Aegon."

Aegon, still focused on his book, glanced up at the woman who had suddenly appeared. "Raise your head."

"Yes." Standing at about 170cm tall, she had stunning fiery red curls, green eyes, and the same light pink lip color as Irene. Clad in a tight-fitting light green outfit, she momentarily captivated Aegon's attention.

"Mera?" The woman's appearance reminded Aegon of Mera, the queen of Atlantis from the DC movie "Aquaman."

She intertwined her hands in front of her and shook her head, expressing confusion and perplexity. "Master Aegon, I don't understand what you mean."

Irene, leaning on her antler cane, walked in slowly, a gentle smile playing on her lips. "How about it? Do you like her?"

Aegon closed his book and frowned, looking at Irene. "What do you mean?"

Irene lightly tapped her lips, smiling enigmatically at Aegon. "She's the secretary I found for you. Do you like her? I thought you would."

Aegon didn't confirm or deny, merely asking, "Where did you find her?"

Aegon did need an assistant. Irene had succeeded in mastering transformation magic, and with only Hein and Juliet around, he couldn't rely solely on them for everything.

However, Irene was too considerate. Before Aegon could even mention it, she had sent a secretary his way, as if she had read his mind.

This wave, indeed, showed how well Irene understood him.

Irene chuckled softly, shaking her head. "I didn't find her. She was created using the trident's personality attachment magic, just like Hein and Juliet. Although fundamentally a weapon, she's no different from a person."

Irene's tone took on a slightly mysterious quality as she looked at Aegon. "By the way, she doesn't have a name yet. What did you just say? Mera? I've never heard of that name. So, do you like her?"

Irene hadn't reached the point of falling for Aegon yet, nor was she jealous. It was merely curiosity.

Furthermore, she wasn't the jealous type. Otherwise, why would she have designed the appearance specifically when attaching it?

Aegon appeared pensive. "She looks a bit like someone I've seen before. As for whether I like her... Well, she's certainly good-looking, but I wouldn't want her to assist me in bed."

"...," Irene's lips twitched imperceptibly. 'What a peculiar fellow he is...'

After taking a deep breath, Irene said something astonishing: "Don't worry, she doesn't need to deal with physiological issues."

"...," Aegon fell into silence this time. 'A Mera who doesn't need to defecate...'

"In that case, let's call her Mera from now on?"

As Irene spoke, there was a somewhat mysterious tone in her voice.

"A good suggestion."

Irene turned to Mera, suppressing the smile on her lips. "From now on, you'll be called Mera, and you'll obey his orders."

"Yes." After nodding, Mera stood behind Aegon, slightly lowering her head. "Master Aegon, please feel free to command me in the future."

Aegon was seated in a high-backed chair, but due to his height, Mera, standing behind him, was only an inch away from the back of his head. With a slight tilt of his head, he could lean against her softest spot.

Of course, Aegon didn't lean back; instead, he turned his head to look at Irene seriously. "Thank you, I really appreciate it."

Irene quietly met his gaze for a while before a hint of a smile appeared at the corner of her mouth. "As long as you're happy. I won't disturb your reading any longer."

Despite saying she wouldn't disturb Aegon's reading, Irene didn't leave immediately, lingering at the door of the study. For a moment, she seemed lost in thought.

'He's really concentrating on his reading...'

Aegon's serious demeanor reminded Irene of herself when she was reading the Revelation. What kind of complex emotions had she begun reading it with? She couldn't quite remember.

Did she like Aegon?

In truth, it was just a slight fondness, based mainly on him solving her long-standing problem.

Aside from that, it was curiosity. Despite having the power to force her, he hadn't. This inevitably aroused some curiosity in her.

"Mera, help me fetch the next volume of this book."

Respectfully, Mera took the book from Aegon and quickly retrieved the next volume, handing it to him.

After taking it, Aegon stretched lazily. It was then that he noticed Irene, who had apparently lingered at the door of the study.

"Were you just here or did you come over just now?"

Irene's voice sounded somewhat flustered. "I-I just arrived. It's nothing. I'll go now!"

Aegon didn't expose her, just placed the book in his hand down, and addressed Mera, "No need to follow."

Irene didn't leave quickly, and Aegon quickly caught up to her, walking side by side in the manor's corridor.

"Let's go out for a stroll."

Aegon didn't consult Irene's opinion, just gestured in the direction of the street. Although Irene wasn't particularly interested, she didn't want to go against his wishes and followed along.

Aegon and Irene walked side by side on the street.

Dusk had fallen, and night was gradually descending. The colorful lights adorning the streets flickered to life, casting a delightful glow.

Men are visual creatures, and so are women. Beauty is revered. Despite Irene's rare appearances on the streets of Alakitasia, the sight of Aegon and Irene's red hair and striking appearance drew some attention from passersby.

The two walked side by side without speaking, simply taking in the ambiance of the street.

Excluding the two weeks Irene spent secluded, practicing transformation magic, they had only known each other for three days. Their understanding of each other remained superficial for now. If things continued on this path, it might take them some time to truly get to know each other.

Their relationship could be succinctly summarized:

They were not yet close, but they had shared a bed.

However, fate often takes unexpected turns...
