The peacekeeping forces.
A full week has passed since the cruise ship incident, casting a profound impact on the peacekeeping forces. Fortunately, the timely arrival of the peacekeeping forces led to the capture of some of the assailants, thereby salvaging a portion of their credibility.
In her office, Eucasia sat amidst an array of documents concerning the Wenting Consortium. With an electronic pen twirling between her fingers, she delved into contemplation.
The cruise ship incident had indeed dealt a significant blow to Eucasia. It wasn't just because she had been unable to accomplish anything throughout the entire ordeal; rather, it was primarily due to the fact that her every move seemed to be under Jonas's control even before boarding the cruise ship.
The sense of being manipulated was truly discomforting. From the qualifications for boarding to the manner of departure, everything had been meticulously arranged, leaving Eucasia with a profound sense of frustration.
Of course, due to being knocked unconscious by that woman, Eucasia was unaware of the final developments of the cruise ship incident. However, her intuition strongly suggested that Jonas was undoubtedly involved.
From the outset, Jonas knew that the Destiny Organization would attack the cruise ship, yet despite his enmity with them, he still chose to board the ship... This alone was highly suspicious. Eucasia couldn't fathom where Jonas derived the audacity to act in such a manner.
Furthermore, the reason provided by the peacekeeping forces for the explosion on the cruise ship was highly questionable. The Destiny Organization had no need to commit such an act that harmed others and brought them no benefits. Eucasia pondered over why they would choose to kill everyone at the banquet, a departure from their previous modus operandi.
According to Eucasia's speculation, the Destiny Organization would likely have used the capitalists at the banquet as bargaining chips for their own gains, rather than causing an explosion on the cruise ship without warning. In comparison, such behavior resembled that of a terrorist organization.
The fact that the Destiny Organization had reached its current stature proved it was no ordinary terrorist group. Rather than describing it as such, it would be more appropriate to label it as hired white gloves used by various consortiums.
In other words, unless absolutely necessary or with irresistible benefits, the Destiny Organization was unlikely to undertake actions that would offend the majority of consortiums. This was why Eucasia suspected Jonas as the primary suspect.
Since neither the Morris Consortium nor the Destiny Organization had a reason to act, it was undeniable that Jonas was the prime suspect.
Survivors on the cruise ship were scarce to begin with. Based on Eucasia's understanding of Jonas, he was very likely to commit such self-serving acts.
With these thoughts in mind, Eucasia massaged her temples. The chain of suspicion was impeccably constructed, with hardly any loopholes.
However, the most crucial aspect now was that Eucasia couldn't find evidence of Jonas's involvement. And the only way to obtain evidence...
Eucasia shook her head, dismissing the thought from her mind.
To obtain evidence, she would have to infiltrate Jonas's circle... This was an extremely arduous task, as Jonas's cunning nature made acquiring evidence akin to reaching the heavens.
In other words, the effort Eucasia invested would likely not yield proportionate returns. The Twenty-Fifth District was plagued with various crimes daily. Instead of spending time on an uncertain task, it would be better to focus on governing her own jurisdiction.
Although reluctantly, at present, Eucasia had no other choice.
Just as the young woman was contemplating, a communication interrupted her thoughts.
Eucasia glanced towards the upper right corner, noticing a communication from the headquarters of the peacekeeping forces sent by a member of parliament.
Furrowing her brows, Eucasia eventually answered the communication.
On the other end, a middle-aged man's voice came through.
"Miss Eucasia, I apologize for disturbing you at such a time. I hope it doesn't interfere with your work."
"No, not at all. What's the matter, Aldrich MP?"
Upon hearing Eucasia's response, the middle-aged man hesitated for a moment before getting straight to the point.
"Headquarters requires you to undertake a secret mission, with a three-month deadline. However, this mission may pose some difficulties, so headquarters sent me to inquire about your opinion."
In reality, as the branch director, Eucasia's position was on par with the headquarters' parliamentarians. It was for this reason that, except for a few individuals, others didn't have the authority to assign tasks to Eucasia.
This was why Aldrich needed to seek Eucasia's opinion.
If she refused, he didn't have the authority to enforce the task. He was merely a colleague, not a "superior."
However, this task was assigned by his superior.
The senior commissioner who negotiated with Jonas actually had the direct authority to command Eucasia, but he was reluctant to do so.
In truth, there weren't many within the peacekeeping forces who dared to offend Eucasia. Due to her numerous achievements, her position within the peacekeeping forces was delicate. Even parliamentarians with higher positions than Eucasia didn't dare to act arrogantly in front of her, let alone request her to undertake tasks.
Upon hearing his words, Eucasia paused for a moment before inquiring, "Please tell me, who is this mission concerning?"
"The Wenting Consortium..."
Aldrich began, then corrected himself after a moment, "More precisely, it's Jonas Wenting."
Hearing this, Eucasia narrowed her eyes and asked, "What are the specifics? Has the peacekeeping forces discovered any connection between him and the previous cruise ship incident?"
Originally, she thought headquarters hadn't found any clues, but now, it seemed that she wasn't the only one suspicious of him.
"Uh, yes."
There was a moment of hesitation from the other end of the communication, then after organizing his thoughts for a while, Aldrich finally spoke, "Actually, this mission involves you assuming a false identity and participating in the personnel recruitment of the Alt Branch."
"Then, you'll infiltrate Jonas Wenting's circle to gather intelligence."
These were decisions made by the higher-ups of the peacekeeping forces.
After all, Jonas merely requested Eucasia to serve as the head of the security department of the Alt Corporation for three months. With Eucasia's character, she would inevitably refuse such conditions.
But in this situation...
"No need to ask for my opinion. Just send me the relevant documents."
Eucasia spoke, paused for a moment, then continued, "I will catch him red-handed."
