Chapter 3 - The bad news

Originally prepared for Jonas to carry out a mission that would lead to certain death, she was stunned by his words for quite a while.

Carry... carry?

The girl known as the Black Goddess of War looked at the collar in Jonas' hand and couldn't comprehend it for a moment.

Stiffly, she turned her head, and when she realized what Jonas was holding, her eyes suddenly went black.

A necklace, a piece of jewelry that in most cases is suspected of insulting one's personality.

Although the girl was inexperienced, in this age of advanced networking, she had a vague idea of what Jonas was up to.

She bit her lip and blushed slightly up to her ears.

Compared to the outcome of a mission that led to certain death, this request was much more unsettling to her.

No doubt the girl was now in a very uncomfortable situation.

Instead of doing certain dirty tasks, this request made her feel even more insecure.

She looked at the collar in Jonas' hand, gritted her teeth and her ears glowed red.

"I... I accept this condition."

It was hard for her to say, because in a way, agreeing to all of this meant giving up her own dignity and integrity.

When Jonas' unexpected surprise failed to materialize, she lifted her head and staring at the young man with widened eyes.

His lips twisted into a grin and he said something mischievous:

"Miss Esni, it seems that you have forgotten my previous words."

He leaned against the wooden desk with a lowered gaze, as if he were watching a trapped prey unable to defend itself.

"How are you going to prove your loyalty?"

How can she prove her loyalty?

This question immediately shook up Esni's previously calm thoughts.

She looked at the young man in front of her, opened her mouth, but couldn't speak.

The collar around her neck caused a feeling of oppression, and in view of Jonas' words earlier, she vaguely suspected that he wanted to force her to make a statement.

The feeling of humiliation in her heart grew even stronger. Almost involuntarily, her voice, weak as a gnat, uttered a syllable:

"Wha..."

Esni finally walked away.

Jonas acknowledged her loyalty and promised to revive her sister.

Of course, this promise couldn't be relied upon. Jonas was aware of this, and so was Esni.

According to the current state of medical technology, Elli's muscle atrophy cannot be operated on, which means that the chances of saving Nora Celine are very slim.

But Esni was prepared to gamble on this possibility, because Jonas was supported by the Veitin Consortium, which represents the most advanced medical technology...

If even the Veitin Consortium couldn't do it, perhaps no one in this world could save her sister... That was the last straw, the only straw.

She could only trust that Jonas would keep his promise.

The elevator slowly descended and Jonas watched as the numbers got smaller and smaller. He shook his head helplessly.

Before she left, there was a hint of displeasure in the girl's eyes. Jonas knew for a fact that this wasn't the look of someone who had sworn allegiance.

But that wasn't important. True loyalty couldn't be achieved all at once, and all he could do was plant a seed in the girl's heart.

Judging by the complex look in her eyes before she fled, Jonas' first move was undoubtedly successful.

He probably couldn't even imagine that the plan would work so smoothly.

Jonas looked at the detailed information about Esni's body data on the virtual screen in front of him, and strange thoughts ran through his mind.

This body data was, of course, recorded by the collar Jonas had just put on Esni. This included heart rate, body temperature, mental state and a number of other situations.

As the saying goes, controlling a person's body isn't far removed from controlling their heart.

Even if this data was a bit exaggerated, it was still very helpful for Jonas to defeat Esni.

He stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling glass window and the buildings beneath his feet seemed very small.

The Veitin Consortium building was always known for its skyscrapers, so Jonas could see over most of the city.

Averting his gaze, he walked over to the communications interface and quickly dialed in. He wasted no words, just gave orders:

"Nora Celine ... transfer her to the hospital under the name of the Veitin Consortium."

"I'll email you her details later. Remember to be discreet and not act on my behalf."

With that, he hung up the call.

What are you going to do next...?

Esni Celine, Miss Black War Goddess...

Jonas looked at his reflection in the floor-to-ceiling glass window in front of him and couldn't help but smile.

But as if he was thinking about something, his movements came to a halt.

He avoided the first meeting between the Black Goddess of War and the original protagonist of the game... Who will replace Esni in the gang fight now?

As if to confirm his thought, he received a message from the Veitin Consortium's security department as soon as this idea had come up.

And as soon as the connection was made, the first thing the other party said was:

"Mr. Jonas, there's a problem with the Veitin Consortium's control of the Alt Street Gang..."

"Alt Street is out of control."
