Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Newcastle, Berwick-Upon-Tweed, And The Final Charge

Upon arrival at Newcastle, and whilst being stationary there for 34 minutes, both Clarkson and myself learned that May and the Jag were only 10 miles from Newcastle. This was a shock to both of us, since while we were still stationary, May and the Jag would overtake us, and go in the lead, by about 10 miles. With the coal and water of both engines replenished, with the two whistle blasts of both engines whistles, and a release of steam from both engines cylinder drains, we set off once again, for our next and final coal and water stop, at Berwick-Upon-Tweed. However, this would not be met without problems en route. As it was discovered whilst proceeding towards Berwick-Upon-Tweed at 75 MPH, that both engines had to reduce their speed to 50 MPH, because one of Tornado's water injectors, that had been providing water to the boiler, had stopped working. About 10 minutes later, the injector problem was fixed, and both engines resumed their normal speeds at 75 MPH. However, after we had completed our water stop at Berwick, and left for the final charge to Edinburgh's Waverly Station, and the finish line at the bar at the Balmouro Hotel, we would be in for one, if not a few more shocking surprises
