Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

'I strive for power'

Is one of the remaining thoughts that crosses this outstanding teens mind as he dies falling from a cliff side.

The reason he was there in the first place? To save a child who wandered off from their mother and was found screaming as the cliff side crumbled.

'I wanted to be admired'

The teen thought again as he fell another ten feet. He didn't save them out of the kindness of their heart but instead out of selfish desire.

'I was the best… but it wasn't enough'

He was exceptional in every facet imaginable.

He was a hard worker who spared no expense, even on things nobody would likely notice.

He was strong in both body and tenacity, becoming a regional champion in many martial arts.

He was intelligent enough to be considered a top mind when it came to all fields of study he challenged, even obscure topics like occultism.

He always preached and demonstrated altruistic behavior and actions becoming popular by many around him. He always took action with a just cause behind him.

He had looks and behavior that entranced and amazed those around him though he always played humble and ignorant to this.

He stood out…

But he was going to die so early, so forgettably…

'I wanted more…'

He was a greedy person, a blackhole for attention and admiration, in his own eyes he could do no wrong and to those around him this was true.

=====================

"Albus honey, it's time for breakfast" a woman sang with a smile. This woman stood by a door within an extravagant and lavish hallway. She stood with pure, unsullied, long white hair and bright white eyes. Her skin was like porcelain in its smoothness. Her olive toned skin contrasted with her stunning white dress, hair and eyes. The one article of clothing that wasn't white were her black onyx earrings.

"Coming mother" a soft childish voice responded both seriously and playfully. The *thud* of a book closing is heard before the light patters of feet are heard running to the door.

Opening the door was a a small child, about seven, who resembled the woman, his mother, almost perfectly if not for his heterochromatic eyes and short hair. His right eye was a crimson red and the left was the same bright white as his mother's.

The boy was dressed in formal garbs befitting his status as heir to the Osric estate which is a highly esteemed magic knight family that is rumored to be the most powerful in the entire continent.

The child took the woman's hand as they both walked to the dining room. The dining room had several servants that set the table. At the table was a stern looking man with blonde hair and piercing red eyes.

The man's stern face shifted to lovey dove as soon as the two walked in, "Ah~ my darling wife and beloved son, how much I missed you both~" the man said tenderly as he sped round the table reaching his arms out for a hug.

The woman let's go of the boys hand and returned the hug passionately, "not in front of Albus-" she whispered but was cut off by a peck on the lips.

This man, Galahad Osric, was revered as the "Deathless Knight", a knight and general who led several battles that ended in no allied casualties and complete annihilation of the opposition. For his accomplishments he was allowed to marry the woman he loved, the head of the Osric estate, Duchess Marilyn Osric, and thus married into the Osric family.

After parting Marilyn was a flustered mess. Galahad still holding her close turned to Albus, "you know mommy and daddy love each other right? This is how adults show love~" he said with a beaming smile to his young child.

Albus faked a smile, "I love mommy and daddy too~"

This adorable response made all the servants 'Aww' as his parents swooped him into their arms. He was held between the two and received a kiss on the cheek from both of them.

————————————-

Outside the estate, a while after breakfast, Albus can be seen in the courtyard being overseen by his mother.

He is practicing his swordsmanship but more precisely, learning how to channel his mana during combat.

'He truly is extraordinary' his mother thought as she parried his slashes.

Albus was a prodigy, he was adept at the sword from the moment he picked it up, he has made strides in mana control that put geniuses to shame. But this wasn't solely due to talent or hard work but also due to his eye.

The white eye he inherited from his mother enabled him to read the flow of mana easily and thoughtlessly, this at first was overwhelming but instead drove him even further. He could see the ambient mana person gives off, he could read the 'intentions' of mana that was under an influence and he could see the absence of mana. These abilities he honed quickly to the point he can basically telegraph movements and mana.

The flurry of exchanged strikes showed no signs of slowing, while Albus did show signs of struggle this was to expected from a child, especially against an experienced magic swordsman like Marilyn.

With a heavy blow downwards that cratered the ground and broke his sword Albus fell to the ground in defeat.

"You are over expending your mana, think of it like a stream, when it rushes to fast without proper direction it erodes and weakens its path, control the flow more closely, it needs to become instinct" she coldly criticized, now as an instructor not a parent.

"YES! *pant*" he loudly responded in slight hiss from his felled position between breaths.

"Head inside and clean up, sparring is over for today-" Marilyn said as she began to walk away.

"AGAIN!" Albus shouted from behind her.

She turned around ready to dismiss him but then she saw his eyes and the radiant white energy emanating off his body as he stood up. It was perfectly regulated, no fluctuations, no stressing, no imbalance, it was pure perfection.

"GO AGAIN!" He shouted, his voice even more powerful than before. It boomed sending a shock wave which shook the ground and began cracking the wall.

Marilyn was transfixed on the flow of his mana. The flow was similar to physical enhancement magic but it felt off, more raw, more natural, more elegant.

He took a step forward and instinctively she pulled her foot back and got in a defensive stance.

Seeing this Albus released a deep breath emitting steam and he disappeared, no sound, no dust, no wind, he just vanished.

Suddenly he appeared his broken wooden sword to her throat.

"I win" he said as he walked away still emitting that wispy energy.

She stood there in both fear and amazement. She never expected her son to be this talented, to be this skilled, to be that elegant.

She collapsed to her knees. Once the fear subsided the curiosity and pride took over. She hopped up and began running after him.

——————————

Later that night Albus was alone in his room. He still radiated that aura, it was as unconscious as breathing and it seemed only he and Marilyn could see it…

His curiosity got the better of him and he observed it, saw how it reacted, how it worked, what it was doing, and what it was exactly.

Albus went over to a desk he had in his room for his studies and reading, he grabbed a pen from it and enhanced it with mana. He closed his eyes and stabbed himself in the hand…

Or at least he intended to. The pen stopped and wouldn't go any further no matter how hard he pushed or how much mana he inputs, it stopped at his skin. He was confused, he could hold the pen perfectly fine in his other hand. He lightened up and gently pushed but still it didn't go any further.

He put the pen back and instead looked at the candle on the desk. He raised his hand and placed it on the candle, making sure it was in the fire. But still he couldn't fell any harm, the flame instead went around his hand…

It seemed to be a type of barrier…
