They searched far and wide for the enemies they were meant to seek, but they were nowhere to be in mind, even with the minimap indication, Ellianor couldn't find them anywhere.
It was a failed search, and so they decided to return to the hotel, hoping that Aur had at least succeeded.
Kissenn had an annoyed face. She was the most eager to find them.
She found nothing and even ran around to "cover more" ground, but all that did was make her get tired and sweaty. "I hate those guys, I swear…" She whined as Ellianor sighed deeply.
"You should not run like you did if you did not want to get tired in the first place." Kissenn groaned and tried to hold the urge to bury herself in a hole.
There was nothing left for them to do today, so sought Aur in the hotel.
They were close to it, its image on the horizon, they just needed to walk inside and see if she had returned.
"I will take the longest shower I can remember." Kissenn continued to whine, using the opportunity to joke, drawing a sharp snort from Ellianor.
"Just endure a little more, and we will be there." After walking in places with so much rust and foul smell, Ellianor wanted to take a path and have a good night's sleep.
The map had not yet vanished, and the arrows seemed to go crazy. 'I wonder what it is?' That behavior was abnormal, but there was no manual or guide to understand what it meant.
'It must be nothing, or we can let Aur deal with that.' She was their boss and the strongest person they knew in that… strange space station, even if it was not one by name.
A bright light shone on space, it drew their attention to it immediately, as it continued to shine in blue light.
"Hey, are you seeing that?" kissen questioned, as people stopped to stare at the blue light.
The duo stopped for a moment to look at it as well. It shone brightly, almost like a star. "Now that you say it, yeah. Is it a comet or something?" It shone too brightly to discern what it was.
"Nah. A comet should be relatively quick to us, it is… moving at the same speed as the Scrapyard." Its position did not change, and while bright the blue glow lacked the same intensity as a star.
It was above their heads, but it was not a star. 'What a strange thing…' It could be a strange space phenomenon that did not exist in the space his Earth was in.
Or some species of life form, a giant and bright life form. There were many possibilities, and all were interesting in its own kind of way. 'Wait, blue? Now that I think about it… it looks like nuclear energy.'
A sharp, glowing intense light blue. 'What are the chances?' It could have been a fluke on his part, but if he were right, Ellianor would want to be on his heels.
The glow started to descend, right above the hotel. "Wow, it is pretty," Kissenn spoke, enamored by the light, as Ellianor's eyes widened. he immediately held Kissenn's hand and turned away.
"RUN!" The ambient started to heat up, and people heard his shout, turned away, and ran from the light. Kissen was startled, and confused about the sudden command, but obeyed.
She turned around and both of them broke on their full sprints, Ellianor releasing Kissenn's hand to not slow her down as the ambient started to become supercharged with energy.
The ambient started to smell like ozone, a heavy layer of ozone, almost suffocating. Ellianor realized what was happening earlier than most as the ambient was heated up.
Those who were slower than them in the uptake, or had not heard his shot barely had time to react, as the light descended like a spear against the ground, against the hotel.
It was struck down. A pillar of blue light appeared, hellish red flames came out of it was the very air was set on fire by a wave of plasma, the light ray pierced through the ground, and vaporized everything beneath it.
A massive shockwave exploded from behind them, breaking away the ground, and throwing piles and piles of trash on the air as metal bent and broke.
The wave of heat hit their backs, and Ellianor felt the tip of his hair burning, as his hair was dried by the heat.
Soon the shock wave had hit them, and many more, throwing many people on the ground.
The less unfortunate were hit and dragged away by the debris, their bodies flying to the hair as momentarily the artificial atmosphere was broken, opening a hole to the void right above the hotel.
The pillar energy shone for two seconds, but it was more than enough to send shockwaves strong enough to break the ground and move away the piles of trash and scrap.
A sea of fire came from the hotel, a mix of fire and superheated plasma that devoured everything in the vicinity of the ray of light, it burned like hellfire before the ambient temperature dropped unnaturally.
The plasma died off quickly, leaving only a crater where the hotel stood, as the damage done by the shockwaves continued to be perpetuated by the leftover momentum.
Kissen and Ellianor held on the ground in a desperate attempt to survive and avoid being dragged into the air, and into their deaths, by the energy released by the attack.
They knew to whom the attack was aimed, and now they knew if they just went back, they would have died.
It raged for several minutes, a silent storm raged, breaking away buildings, as people vanished high in the air to never be seen again. And then, silence came, and the duo felt their bodies free once again.
Free from the strength that tried to drag them away. From the remaining piles of trash, and tunnels exposed to the surface, Gragas and other creatures started to exit it accompanied by people in white robes, wielding dangerous-looking weapons.
Their mission had gone haywire already.
