Chapter 13 - Road to Hell 1

After the gruesome fight, some droplets and lines of blood were shed from the cuts across their bodies, luckily, or maybe because of skill, the tools were not damaged.

Just Ellianor and Kissenn's bodies were hurt in exchange against the creatures. '

That is lucky.'

While the cuts ached and hurt, despite the damage done on his shoulder, Ellianor felt reasonable "okay".

In comparison to everything that could have happened, it was the best outcome available as far as he knew.

Kissenn was unhindered by her wounds as if those were just scratches and shallow cuts.

While Ellianor's body was sturdy, he was sure it was not on the same degree of endurance as hers.

'It is as if her body is made of something else than flesh.' Ellianor stole some glances at her.

A first glance revealed no irregularities on her body. However, a second glance revealed irregularities in her body.

Wounds were all skin deep at best, and swallow cuts at worst. Less of how to flesh was supposed to work, and more like clay.

The flesh was sunken, and purple, but showed no signs of how regular flesh should work.

'Unless she is an alien, which may as well be possible, there is something wrong with her.'

Kissenn narrowed her eyes, noticing Ellianor's sizing of her, an analytical look fit for someone staring at an enigma rather than a person.

A smile blossomed on her lips. His gaze was cold and analytical, but his stare could be misinterpreted as lascivious.

Ellianor's gaze was no different from how someone sees an experiment or test subject, but it was intense, it could be mistaken as an "other type of gaze", even if the lack of emotions in his eyes immediately shot down that line of thought.

That did not diminish the teasing potential the situation at hand had.

"So, do you like how my backside looks?"

Kissenn teased, turning her red gaze upon Ellianor. His concentration was broken immediately

His face flashed a light tone of red.

"Ah. Sorry. I was just seeing your hands, checking if you are okay."

A white lie, but the best one to get out of an unpleasant situation and awkward talk.

For some reason beyond Ellianor's understanding, Kissenn pouted in annoyance, staring intensely at him.

The black-haired man was sure that it was the best way to defuse the situation, yet why Kissenn was annoyed at his answer?

"No fun, no fun at all." She "hmped" and looked ahead, her eyes shone with great annoyance and displeasure at Ellianor's reaction, meanwhile, he was lost over her reaction.

'What? Did I say something wrong? I'm sure I didn't!' It was insane, what was the answer she wanted him to say?

'I can't understand unreasonable people…' Ellianor pinched his temples and winced.

'Okay, no longer staring or gauging her wounds. If she loses her arms and legs, say that is but a scratch.' Ellianor returned his gaze ahead of the corridor they were in, an alternative, supposedly quicker path to the amphitheater.

One strange thing about the layout was that if the amphitheater was there, alongside a food court and reception hall… "Hey, Kissenn, can you hand me the radio?"

There was a new thing he wanted to check.

Kissenn wordlessly tossed him the radiol, and Ellianor turned it on.

"Hey, if you are still here… this was one of the ground zeros in the invasion of this base, right?" Ellianor had a lingering suspicion.

The corruption had the power to fuse and absorb bodies, as well as revive them. "Yes. Why?"

The guy on the other side picked up immediately. The amphitheater ahead of them, its door visible.

"A reception room, amphitheater, food court. For the love of God almighty, tell me we are not a residential or civilian populated area." Ellianor had an inkling about the possibility of it being a civilian-controlled zone.

However, the lack of corpses painted an image he was uncomfortable with. "Yes, it was… why?" The guy's voice slowed down, a sharper and colder tone to it as if the realization damned. Ellianor stopped on his track.

Kissenn stopped some steps forward, she watched Ellianor with confusion about why he stopped.

"Where do the corpses go? There were too few corpses on our way here…" Ellianor spoke with high tension in his voice.

The guy on the other side went silent as Kissenn made her way to his side, picking up the tension, ready to enter combat if the situation arose. "Dammit. Get out of there, now! BACK TO THE FOOD COURT!"

Ellianor turned on his heel, and so did Kissenn as they ran away from the amphitheater.

Behind them, the sound of metal twisting, bending, and breaking away was heard, alongside a gurgling roar.

The corruption could be felt crawling from behind them, the shadow of something big just bulldozing the structure of the space station was there, some pipes broke alongside electronics and cables, the lights flickering everywhere.

"PRIMAL CORRUPTION DETECTED! SHUTTING DOWN CORRIDOR, SHUTTING DOWN CORRIDORS!"

The system blared its alarm, and the gates behind them started to lock up, but the monster behind their backs just broke it anyway, in its rampage it was uncaring about the obstacles it found.

It could just power through the blockage to reach them.

"Shit! That is where the corpses went!" Screamed Kissenn, not daring to look back at the best, gauging its size and weight based on the heavy, and powerful steps and dragging behind their backs.

"Those things were fusing the corpses into that abomination!" Ellianor shouted with anger in his voice.

It made no sense why those monsters wouldn't just every corpse it had at its disposition, but Ellianor was not a monster, so it was beyond him its motives.

The duo ran past the room where there were monsters, the corridors started to lock from every other direction as once again, they had to make their way back to the food court.

The monster continued to give chase, and once again, Ellianor felt his breath catching inside his throat. Luckily enough, they reached the food court in time.
