Chapter 102 - Charge (Part 1)

"Did you agree to it?"

Standing at the doorway of the mech chamber, Nora stared at Reno.

"What else could I do?"

Reno shrugged off his coat, revealing the ultra-fiber suit underneath, and strode towards a black mech.

"She's just a useless girl," Tychus grumbled, following along.

"Tychus, I've said it before, the Heart of Freedom needs all kinds of people... including the useless ones."

"Well, isn't that interesting," Wang Yile laughed. "Joining with an ordinary bodyguard and now a rich girl. We'll take anyone."

"To some extent, yes," Reno replied. "There are too few of us in the Heart of Freedom. We need to expand ourselves at all costs, recruit talents. That girl may not have any skills, but she's a woman, she has a uterus, she can bear children, that's reason enough for us to want her."

Reno walked up to the mech, implanted the control program first, then activated the terminal. The mech bent down, supporting Reno as it ascended into the air.

"But no matter how we develop, we can't possibly be stronger than the Federation," Claire said, standing beside a white mech.

"Perhaps, who knows about the future," Reno mused. "Any seed has the potential to grow into a towering tree. For now, we have to do what needs to be done, let's move!"

"Roar!" Everyone roared together.

Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, the heavy closing sounds of five mechs echoed.

"Let's go!"

With the heavy voice amplified through the speakers, the five towering ground assault mechs dashed out of the transport ship towards the research institute.

At the same time, a large number of combat robots rushed out from the base.

The system can be deceived, but humans cannot, and it was clear that the people in the research institute had come to their senses.

Their response was timely and accurate. A large number of X800 mechs swarmed forward, raising their weapons against the mechs ahead, and in an instant, lasers danced in the sky.

Laser beams struck the mechs, creating dazzling energy glows.

"Snake maneuver, launch the short swords!" Reno shouted.

This was a common marching tactic variation for mechs. The five mechs advanced in an S-shaped route, constantly changing their positions to increase the difficulty of locking on.

At the same time, the missile launchers on the shoulders of the five mechs opened, and one short sword missile after another whizzed out.

The Short Sword II missile was a short-range missile equipped with fusion bombs, with a wide attack range and strong area damage, making it best suited to deal with large numbers of enemies. More than twenty Short Sword missiles attacked in batches, maintaining an appropriate distance from each other to prevent self-damage during explosions, fully demonstrating the operator's superb skills.

A large number of lasers shot towards the airborne missiles. Laser weapons were indeed best suited for interception, and before the Short Sword missiles could reach, they exploded with a bang, creating small mushroom clouds in the air. Nevertheless, the subsequent fusion bombs continued to fly forward unaffected, and eventually, three fusion bombs landed on the forefront of the research base.

The rising mushroom clouds instantly lit up the night sky above the research base, and the mechanical soldiers were dispersed into countless pieces under the powerful shockwaves.

In terms of combat power, mechanical soldiers simply couldn't compare to mechs.

However, soon the mechs encountered trouble.

Above the research base, several heavy cannons were protruding from their emplacements, with long barrels extending along the tracks.

These were the Divine Retribution railguns, specifically designed to deal with ground targets, firing 98mm spike shells. These spike shells had excellent penetration against energy shields, partially ignoring energy shield defense and directly attacking the mechs themselves, causing damage to the mech pilots through powerful shockwaves. The effect was similar to Tychus dealing with bulletproof armor; Tychus himself was inspired by the Divine Retribution cannons and could be considered one of the mech's natural enemies.

Seeing several Divine Retribution railguns appearing, Reno shouted, "Release the jamming waves!"

On the forefront, Wang Yile's right arm revealed a radar-like device, continuously emitting a large number of jamming waves.

These jamming waves could effectively disrupt the positioning system of the Divine Retribution railguns, but they had limited range. If they were far away, they wouldn't be able to interfere with the railguns at all. However, now they were less than ten kilometers away from the base, facing each other head-on, and the jamming waves worked without any hindrance. The Divine Retribution railguns roared to life, one after another, illuminating the sky as they flew past the mechs' bodies.

But the five mechs continued to charge fearlessly!

This was a close-quarters combat, where firing at one side immediately led to getting hit on the other, leaving almost no room for maneuver. In such a situation, the adaptability of soldiers and the quality of combat would be pushed to the extreme, requiring soldiers to make adjustments in the shortest possible time, and a slight miss would lead to disastrous consequences.

Reno wasn't afraid to compete in adaptability with the opponent. Every soldier on the Abrody was carefully selected, elite warriors who had been through the most brutal trials of blood and fire, with absolutely rich combat experience. Many times, he didn't need to say a word, and his companions had already understood his meaning and reacted in time.

This was also why he stuck so close to the opponent—when the number was far less than the opponent's, the only thing Reno could compete with the opponent was the quality of the soldiers.

Dragging the battle into an extremely perilous and constantly changing environment, then using his rich experience to defeat the opponent.

When the jamming waves successfully interfered with the Divine Retribution railguns, twelve towering mechs with wolf heads drawn on their chests had already rushed out of the base.

Wolf Mech.

The best weapon against mechs is still the mech itself.

There was already a mech squad inside the research institute, finally appearing to confront the enemy. However, from their preparation speed, it was evident that they were lagging behind Reno and his team. Since landing from the transport ship until now, Reno and his team had already donned their mechs and advanced halfway, while this mech squad had just sprung into action.

Their long-term comfortable lifestyle had led to a collective decline in the soldiers' quality, which was why Reno dared to assault the research institute with just five people.

An outstanding soldier might only be able to defeat three to five, at most a dozen, inferior soldiers. However, with the help of technology, through cannons, mechs, missiles, and other means, one could magnify their capabilities exponentially, widening the gap enough to destroy the opponent.

When the twelve War Wolf mechs appeared, they hadn't even had time to form a proper formation.

"Nora, show them what you've got!" Reno didn't need to specify what "what you've got" meant, because Nora would understand his meaning.

Sure enough, Nora responded, "Understood!"

Her right arm raised, the cannon on her arm kept extending, turning into an ultra-long barrel, emitting a huge flash. When this flash appeared, Nora's cannon was still aimed at the ground, and no one could know her target.

But when the light brightened, Nora raised her hand, and the cannon was already aimed at one of the War Wolf mechs charging at the forefront.

Lock-on as she raised her hand!

The targeted War Wolf mech immediately sounded a sharp alarm, but it was too late to dodge. As the lock-on occurred, a huge energy beam shot out of the cannon. The targeted War Wolf mech hadn't even activated its energy shield before being blasted into the air, melting in the intense energy flame, emitting a loud wail.

"Captain!" all the members of the War Wolf mechs exclaimed simultaneously.

These drivers, who had undergone professional training but had never truly been on the battlefield, would never have imagined how great the gap was between them and a real elite driver. Lock-on as she raised her hand was the ultimate pursuit of a driver. Once they reached this level, it meant hitting the target every time, making any mech a sitting duck in front of the opponent.

And Nora, they were facing such a driver.

Moreover, she also had rich eyesight, finding the captain at the first moment. This was the intuition of a sniper, feeling things through various details.

At the same time, Tychus also charged forward.

"Now it's my turn." He chuckled, multiple cannons extending out, and the steel storm played out again.

Tychus had always favored this simple and violent method, tilting tons of bullets out, creating a large nail board in the sky, rendering all evasion meaningless, forcing the opponent into a man-to-man struggle, which had always been his style.

The group of War Wolf mechs was caught off guard by this sudden storm.

They scrambled to dodge, deploy energy shields, and counterattack. But facing the torrential rain of bullets, their vision was obscured by the sparks splashed on the energy shield, their ears filled with the dense sound of high-frequency iron striking, the mechs constantly shaking in the wild bombing, the tremendous shock waves shaking the drivers inside the mechs, making it impossible for them to stand steadily.

And that terrifying mech continued to shoot wildly, the huge recoil shaking the mech and the driver inside, seeming completely unaffected, making people horrified, wondering if the person inside was even human.

Never had anyone seen someone fire so madly. Although the heavy machine gun was effective as a close-range suppression weapon, its terrifying recoil was rarely manageable by anyone.

Tychus, however, seemed unaffected, still bombing wildly, and under his terrifying bullet rain cover, one missile after another came flying.

"Oh my God!" Seeing the missiles whistling after the bullet rain, a mech driver let out a desperate cry.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

A series of explosions ensued.

The mechs that had just charged out were thrown into disarray.

Reno let his opponents truly understand what elite meant, what the gap was.

Given time and the opportunity to grow, they might also become elite veterans like Tychus and Nora. However, life had no "if", and many things only had one chance.
